Schweinsteiger supposedly joining United.
Good signing but as long as they're not signing central defenders I'm not too bothered.

On a sidenote is he the first German to play for them?
20 million euros the fee being banded about.
Looks a bargain although he does seem to have declined the last couple of years.

I was a big Schweinsteiger fan but if he was the player he used to be then he wouldn't be leaving Bayern

Could be a fantastic signing if they're lucky but I have my doubts.

According to a Bayern fan neither Rumminegge nor Gaurdiola would stand in his way. He hasn't signed the new contract supposedly offered to him before the WC and Bayern have left it up to him, as a legend of the club, to decide what he wants to do in the twilight of his career. I don't think his leaving has anything to do with a perceived decline. This is a fantastic signing for United, he will improve their MF considerably for at least 2 years, and I'm gutted.

He's been injured a lot for the last few years and is 31 years old.
Will be interesting to see how he adapts.
18 mill and astronomical wages.

Could be a very good signing but could also be one who wont make much impact from the treatment table.
Gone for a big name instead of what they really need again?

Wages are quoted at ca. £135k. Not astronomical at all. That 20M Euros .... about £13.5M

Great signing for Utd alright, hes a quality experienced winner. Im concerned that they are building a serious squad, it looks like they are in for Ramos or Otamendi, I also expect they will bring in a top class striker to replace Van Persie and Falcao

Fee hasnt been agreed yet. He's got one year left on his contract and Bayern want 15 mill £.
He's on 135k now. Bar an article in the Mail it hasnt been confirmed that he'll get the exact same wages.

As I said a very good player. Injury prone and on the decline. Will be interesting to see how he adapts.
Seeing as he's going to Utd, I hope he fails. Big time.

Yeah, they're after Muller apparently. Telegrapgh reported about a 57 mill bid that had been rejected.
God I hope they dont get him..

I've seen a report that Schneiderlin would prefer to go to the Arse. Seems plausible to me with their French connection, plus some players particularly like the idea of living in London. Can't blame them if the alternative is Manchester.

Its a shame they have the financial muscle to buy their way back in, if they are consistently able to spend £100m per summer and attract players of that caliber then its virtually impossible for us to overhaul them buying from the premier league bargain bin

Also if Schweinsteiger takes £15k a week less than Milner he needs to fire his agent on the spot

Delph's statement

Fabian Delph statement. Read it here: http://bit.ly/1ePTqYj #AVFC

[article=http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~4856901,00.html]Aston Villa captain Fabian Delph has confirmed he will be remaining at the club and leading the team into the new season.

He said: "I'm aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight.

"I'm not leaving. I'm staying at the football club and I can't wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club."[/article]

Said this in Jan when he signed the new contract
[article=http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~4440620,00.html]Delph said it "means everything" to continue his B6 association and hailed the chairman, manager and fanbase for making his decision easy.

He said: "The club has given me a great platform to perform and a great opportunity to showcase what I can do.

"The fans have been great with me, the chairman has been absolutely fantastic with me and I have a great relationship with the manager and I see the boys here as my brothers, my family and I am delighted to stay here.

"I am a loyal person and committing my future will hopefully show everybody what type of guy I am.

"I feel like this is me - I love the club, I love being here and I want to put 100% into everything I do here. This is my club and I want to be here. That's why I am committing my future.

"Hopefully it will give everyone a bit of a lift and show the fans that we are looking to do big things here and bring excitement back to the club.

"We want to get through this season, do well and I feel the up-and-coming years will be big.

"There was no way I was going to bail out. I am here for the long run.

"The fans have been the same. I am sure they will stick with us, help us get through this season and then looking into the future, it looks promising to me."[/article]

Well, I was speculating that they'd refused to pay rather than being unable to, but fair enough. I remember Delph saying when he signed his new contract around New Year time that he was a loyal person and loved the club. Looks like he's walked the walk too, which is admirable.

I think it's pretty simple. He would get less game at city than milner had last season and was just an English head in the squad.

I imagine he'll wait out for a move to a side where he's a starter.

What has it got to do with then? He's a club legend alright, why wouldn't they want him to stay. Reading between the lines there they aren't reliant on him and he's not going to get as many games as he might want.

There has to be some sort of decline in performance or fitness because the old schweinsteiger was one of the best.

I'd imagine it's the same decision Gerrard made, just a few years earlier in the career timeline.

Im not too concerned about it, I'm sure he'll be tidy enough but I'm not expecting too much.

What would you have said if we were signing him?
