Different Gravy

I find myself saying this a lot but different Grav, different class.

What's the difference between possession won and tackles won?

Possession won includes interceptions where you don't tackle a player but intercept a pass?
But you can make an interception and the possession is still with the other team can't you, so would that count as "possession won" I don't know.

I thought the whole midfield was poor IMO. Didn't think any of our midfielders stamped their authority and controlled the game.

I missed about 20mins of the second half so maybe that was when he was being all dominant and what not but from what I saw, it was a so-so performance. There were good moments but also not so good ones.

The first half he got caught on the wrong side and subsequently allowed the Wolves player to get past him multiple times. Where does that show up in the stats?

I'm a big fan of his but I wouldn't choose this specific performance to gush over.

Definitely his worst outing this season and was still our best player

Fixed and you'll probably come to see this when you finish your little tally up in the other thread.

Are people getting carried away with his start of the season to mean he should now have the capability to boss the entire midfield of his own? Mac and Szobo were fucking useless out there, Szobo especially.....complete headless chicken.

I’m sure I was watching another game because Virgil was head and shoulders above anyone else.

Virg was very good too yes. Grav was the head, Virg the shoulders. Robbo can have a piece of the pie too....he can be the brain as he was alert to everything.

Salah and Szobo the pants.

& the rest were toenails.

No chance was gravy better than virgil. Virgil was a monster at the back. Konate was great for about 60 mins and then had some brain fart moments.

15 posters in the MOTM thread and not 1 of them have put Virg over Grav, why don't you be the first?

Opinions and tha'

OPTA

Against Wolves, Ryan Gravenberch was the first Premier League midfielder to contest more than 5 duels in a match with 100% success (8), make 3+ tackles with 100% success (3), and make 50+ passes at 90%+ accuracy (57/62) since Sandro for Spurs v Blackburn in April 2012.

When we finally play decent opposition is when we will really know what the level of both gravy and our midfield is. Personally i think mac is better further forward. Reminds me of last season when klopp played him deeper, but then as soon as endo got in the team and mac was further forward he starting influencing games. In regards to gravy he's done good so far but we haven't played anyone decent apart from man utd and we can all see how shit they are at the moment. When we play chelsea at home and then especially arsenal away will be a good indicator of him and the team in general.

Whilst obviously he has the litmus tests to come (City, Chelsea, Arsenal) I think it's wrong to say he's not doing it against anyone of note. United away is always going to be a test but if we look at his International form (where he plays LM) he's been doing it there too.

vs. Germany 2-2
The Liverpool star was dominant in midfield, winning six duels and making one interception. He also played two key passes and completed two dribbles. 7.5/10

Bavarian Newspaper
The former Bayern man endured a lousy single year in Bavaria back when Julian Nagelsmann was still head coach (up to March, anyway). But he’s come a long way in the seasons since. Now 22, the Liverpool man is starting games for club and country — and absolutely dazzled with some of the prettiest passes of the match, including that opening assist.

Caughtoffside talking to v.d. Vart
Gravenberch has been used in the number six role by Slot and it has suited the former Bayern Munich star perfectly as he can use his physical attributes to run the midfield.
The midfielder took his club form onto the international stage during the current international break and had more brilliant moments against Germany on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old assisted the Netherlands’ opening goal and that was before he produced one of the passes of the season so far.
The Liverpool star embraced his inner Trent Alexander-Arnold as he played an insane long-ball forward but unfortunately for the player, it didn’t result in a goal.

vs Bosnia 5-2
Having played the full 90 minutes, Gravenberch’s performance was given a rating of 7.5/10 by Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur. “His return to the Dutch national team, but he played as if he had never been away. Gravenberch clearly brought his Liverpool form with him and was very comfortable on the ball,” was their verdict.

He’s a completely different animal this season.

His next step up is adding goals to his game. Once he does that, he’s officially the new Viera. Some is saying Pogba but I think Viera or maybe even a Seedorf or a Rijkaard is the closer match.

And if he adds leadership on top of goals, he can be the Dutch Gerrard.

Very impressed so far.

Gravenberch was superb once more, with his performance including a match-high 18 passes in the final third, a passing accuracy of 91.1%, three successful dribbles and four duels won, while he also gained possession nine times.

"I was delighted with him," said boss Slot, who has now won eight of his first nine matches in charge - the first Liverpool manager to do so.

"Ryan was again outstanding. I don't say that to players at half-time because there is still 45 minutes to go but I said after the game 'again, big performance'."

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live last month, said: "I was in Philadelphia with the team. I spoke to Gravenberch there on the training ground and I told him this was going to be his year.

"Arne Slot brings the full potential out of the players - and especially the younger players. This is the Gravenberch from Ajax - this is how he plays. He went to Bayern Munich and they didn't use him, or didn't feel he was that good - but we know how good he is.

"Arne uses the number six in the build-up and it suits him [Gravenberch] perfectly."

Slot admitted to being impressed by the defensive strengths of his fellow Dutchman and added: "To be completely honest, that surprised me because I know him from the Dutch league, but Bayern Munich and Jurgen [Klopp] did a real good job to make him also better without the ball, and that's what we are taking the benefits of right now.

"He's just very comfortable on the ball, and that helps the team if you want to have a possession-based style of play."
