Am I reading that incorrectly or are the figures displayed to look impressive but the improvement is actually marginal at best and largely based on minutes played?

2012/13 - 30 x 51 = 1530 minutes
a chance created every [hl]46mins[/hl]
a tackle every 41mins
a dribble every 90mins

2013/14 - 27 x 89 = 2403 minutes
a chance created every 49mins
a tackle every [hl]40mins[/hl]
a dribble every [hl]54mins[/hl]

No i'd say your guess is pretty spot on.

Apparently he suffered form almost crippling nerves and anxiousness when he first arrived. Was sick before every game. I imagine settling in and having a top sports psychologist helped with that.
Plus he was being played right of a 4-4-2, not good for him, and was in a team that was struggling for an identity. His rise has been a joy to watch. Works exceptionally hard at his game, on the pitch and in training. Is making the very most of his talent by using desire and willingness to learn. A great example of a player that listens and does as he's asked by Rodgers. Sterling the same. Witness Shelvey. Sahin, Morgan and others for players that Rodgers realises he can't improve because they won't listen and learn his way.

I disagree about him not being very good technically. And as for his start to his career with us, no, it wasn't great, but then, he's not a wide player and was often shoved out there.

Henderson will never be a Liverpool legend - he's way too boring.

I bet his favourite program is A Question of Sport because the banter is class and the questions are good.

When I first saw that today, I thought the stats would be skewed but didn't look at the breakdowns. Then I read your calculations, and that seemed to click with my initial thoughts. The thing is, Henderson actually started improving last season, I think it was right around December, starting with that goal he scored against Udinese. Then he grabbed an assist against West Ham, and it all picked up from there. This season, he has built on the improvement started last season obviously.

So the stats for last season would've been skewed by the inclusion of improved numbers already for much of the second half of the season. If we were to look at how he's done this season compared to just before December 2012, or if he'd been playing the whole of last season like he did before December 2012, the jump would be a fair bit more obvious.

The way I see it anyway.

SPOILER: Question of Sport is scripted and they tell contestants which questions to get right or wrong. 😱

He has improved tremendously this season….i have to give that to him. His passing, his team play, his vision, his positioning, his scoring ability, his awareness all has improved.

He's not great but he is doing a fucking great job this season. Credit where credit is due.

I think he's been our best midfielder all season and will hopefully improve.

Encourging that Rodgers says he's a deadly finisher in training.

Hopefully the 2 goals will spur him onto to get 5/6 more before the season is over.

I like every aspect of his game and think he has a long term future with us.

Just go to show what playing a player out of position can do as he looked awful before Rodgers

After three years of being constantly mauled for saying he's a great player and that he'll come good, this season has been very satisfying, the usual Hendo haters are very quiet 🙂
I've always back you even though that probably got you more stick

I don't think hendo will ever be great, he's not technically very good. But, he's like Kuyt - he makes up for it in graft and enthusiasm. He's gone from one of those players we all wanted to flog asap like downing, to one none of would want to see go now, excellent squad player.

He's much, much better tecnhically than Kuyt. He's quicker, more skillful and generally a better footballer.
Not dissing Kuyt, he was a great servant and very productive player for us but I'm not seeing the similarities with him and Hendo.

Hendo did deserve some criticism early on. But, as some of us pointed out, his poor performances were mostly because he was mentally not quite ready for the step up to a club like Liverpool. In my opinion it was always unfair for some of our fans to criticize a young player in his first season with a big club for being a "passenger". Did you expect him to come from Sunderland at 21 and start carrying the team? And it wasn't his fault that Kenny put him on the wing and started him in almost every game.

The fundamentally sound technique and amazing attitude were there in plain sight, even when his confidence was low. This is what I wrote 2 years ago:

Henderson has a chance to become one of our key players for years and years to come. You guys all say he is "tidy", as if assuming that's he has nothing else in store and will always be nothing more than a "tidy" player. When Lampard was 21, did many people predict he was going to score over 100 PL goals? Henderson obviously has something "extra" in him (at least it's obvious to me), he is mature beyond his years, his fundamental shooting and passing technique is excellent, so it's just a matter of time until he starts scoring regularly IMHO. Most importantly, his attitude couldn't be better. I think Hendo will improve every season and in hindsight, 16 million will look like a steal.

I think we're not there yet (to the point when 16M look like a steal), but I believe 15 years from when you look at Henderson's long career at Liverpool, possibly part of it as the captain, you will be very happy that Kenny decided to spend that money on him. In fact it will be so obvious that it will go without saying.

No one expected him to carry the club.
What we did demand was something, anything and he pretty much gave us nothing for two seasons.
Look at the difference Coutinho made since joining the club.
Not being ready mentally is not an excuse for playing badly when joining a club like Liverpool. I guess it's our fault for not scouting him properly but I expect more from a 21 year old "premiership proven" player.
I saw potential in Henderson though and I'm glad that he's finally improving. But lets not change history, he was wank for basically two and a half seasons.
