He really, really looks like he could go on to be a bona fide superstar, doesn't he..? Amazing that richer clubs didn't get to him long before we did...

If you've had everyone blowing smoke up your arse for years, you're gonna buy your own hype. I can whole heartedly see Bellingham being a prick, but annoyingly having the talent to back it up

Years ago I read the Edmund Hillary autobiography, and I remember thinking he came across a bit up himself, but then I reasoned "Well...if you're the first bloke to climb Everest and you've been to both North and South Pole, then y'know - talk the talk..."

We are one of the richest most successful clubs in the world and sixty million is a shagload for a 22 year old playing in a league that's had slim pickings for the prem lately. I don't see this as the bargain or the coup that most do. He's got to be fucking good.

I'm not saying he isn't boss. I'm saying he better fucking had be as one of our most expensive signings ever.
He cost significantly less than Pépé, who at 72 m was Arsenal's most expensive ever signing in 2019. So paying the big dough can go wrong. Nice to see that we knew what we were doing splurging all that money.

"Richer" was the wrong choice of wording... I should have said "Bigger spenders".

And I agree that 60m isn't a pittance, but looking at other prices being paid for seemingly lesser players, we weren't exactly hosed, either. Thankfully, it looks like he's going to make it look like a steal in a couple of years.

He is turning out to be what we hoped for, and totally agree - if we spend 60M - it has to be the nearest thing to the finished article, cannot be a project/prospect etc...

We've had the convo on here several times about the amount of shite that's been imported from that league lately. From Keita to Havertz to Sancho, it's all looked a bit toss. Good job this lad isn't.

That is very true, even Timo Werner turned out shit.
Having said that - I never thought Keita was shit when he played other than that RM game away in the pandemic season where he had to be taken off. He was alright, and sometimes very good. But like you say - for us to spend 60M or close on a player he has to almost be the finished article. But the problem with Keita was that he was never fucking available - just like Thiago now.

Szoboszlai shares what he's told his Hungary teammates about being a Liverpool player

James Brooke
~3 minutes

Dominik Szoboszlai has insisted that being a Liverpool player won’t change him when it comes to the national team.
Szoboszlai is the captain of Hungary and played with them for the first time since his move to Liverpool last night.
The undoubted biggest star in his nation right now, the 22-year-old is a real figurehead for the Hungarians. But speaking to Index after a 2-1 win over Serbia last night, Szoboszlai insisted that he doesn’t want to be seen as a ‘superstar.’

“When I spoke to the boys before the game as team captain, I emphasized that the team that wants to win more will win this game,” said Liverpool’s No.8. “And that happened because I think we wanted the victory more. And not only because I said so, but also because we knew that if we win here, we will take a big step towards advancing.
“Now, even as a Liverpool player, I am the same Dominik Szoboszlai as I was. Here, everyone is equal in the team, everyone looks at each other the same way. I want to set an example and help the team. I would like to avoid being seen as a superstar, of course the media writes what they want, but I don’t want this to be a topic within the team.”

Down to earth Dominik

Didn’t Liverpool just hit the jackpot with Szoboszlai. Not only is he a supremely talented midfielder, but he also seems to be a real leader.
Humble, down to earth and hardworking, the £60m man has everything needed to be a top, top player.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold around, he may never be Liverpool captain. But his experience of leading his national team will only be good news for the Reds.

With Szoboszlai at the helm, Hungary look poised to be far better than they have been in recent years, too.
Last night’s win in Serbia was a big one. It put the Magyars top of Group G, three points clear of yesterday’s opponents.
Having sprung a bit of a shock during the last Euros in 2021, they could be a dark horse in Germany next summer.
Szoboszlai will hopefully be coming into that tournament on the back of a successful debut season at Liverpool. Whatever he wins with the Reds though, it doesn’t sound like it’ll change him any time soon.

Already saying all the right things.

He's desperate to be a club legend isn't he ?

Hahaha!

Imagine a guy shows up at a class reunion (which you've gone to because apparently You're one of those sad people in this theoretical...).

Anyway, he shows up, and says "guys, I just want you to know. I know I'm off doing amazing things and getting tons of attention. You've read the newspapers, I mean how could you not, I'm everywhere.”

”You might think I'd come back here as mr bigshot. But, I want you to know that quite incredibly, I still think of us as equals. Really! I'm the same as you, can you believe it? I'm the same dommy boy you all know and love. I haven't changed a bit!”

Kinda like a boss I once had who didn’t allow me to finish my argument cos I began my sentence with ‘but boss, in my humble opinion….”

he then went on to say “In all my years of working I’ve never met anyone who calls himself humble….”

Didn’t dare to look at him for at least a week.

When Hungary monstered England at Wembley Szobo was going about his business like he owned the place. See also his put-down of Neymar when that to$$er tried to put him off before he took a peno. I've also noticed he's often talking to Darwin, having seemingly clocked the fact that the lad needs a bit of extra support.

Me likey. 😎

Most expensive signings ever, more often than not never live up to the hype or price tag. It’ll be. a surprise if he does.

Madrid !!! The big clubs - Al Nassr, Al Hillal, will be circling soon.

It will be Madrid and don't count out Barca, he is one of a kind, he is a better overall footballer than Haarland if not a better goal-scorer.

That pass 13 seconds in is absolutely scandalous…don’t think I’ve ever seen a player smack an 80 yard or whatever it was pass from inside his own 18 yard box like that and actually find his own man (that wasn’t a keeper), pure filth.

Not to big up our coach too much (especially since he has fucked up big time last season), but I think the fact that all of our new midfield players have had exceptional international games where they have demonstrated so much energy - is probably down to the Klopp training. Even in those Dom clicks posted, he is doing a lot of running, and Macca and Endo have been very energetic in their respective international games.
