He looked world class at the beginning of the year. But his form in recent months is one that would have this board split on whether an academy product had the ability to "make it" or not.

Not sure what he - or our next manager - needs to do to get back to what he showed initially but it needs to happen or he will be a bust in the end.

He wont be a bust regardless imho. He's already a great signing.

Its been much much more than that.

We ran him into the ground early doors, he looked completely fried, got hurt, and has struggled to re-establish himself.

It really isn't much much more than that.

I have faith that he'll come good still, but it's not a given.

Covers the most ground, most recoveries and creates the most chances in several games. Has struggled to regain his form but has 7 goals and 4 assists.
His pressing and ball carrying are essential to how the team is set up and ticks.

The contribution he has made and makes gets overlooked it seems. He'll be a fantastic player for us in the future.

Looking anything but a fantastic signing.

Decent first few months but he's been performing like a £6m player nevermind a £60m player.

I agree. No real end product, no goal threat. An interrupted season no doubt, and there's a good player there, but not great really. For 60 million big ones.

Klopp's not telling him to lose the ball in his own half time with lazy ass passes and flicks and time again, VDK needs to have a word with him as captain that BS needs to stop. It's costly everytime.

His actions for the third goal were woeful. He gave the ball away needlessly in a dangerous area and his reaction to recover the ball, or track the runner, was lazy and pathetic.

Appalling.

Think you're overstating his case here a bit Hansern, he's been great for a bit and equally awful for a bit, but "essential to how we play?" Hardly.

Nah, its true but its all in my opinion obviously. Yesterday doesnt change that.

If he's essential to how we play. It explains why we've struggled since he's come back

You know someone's forcing their cause when they cite favourable stats and then tail off with "in some games".

He looked great at times earlier in the season and crap or inconsequential at others. Lets not bandy round terms like "World Class" and "essential to how we play".

It's insane, because initially, he was excellent and essential to how we play.

Now, he's running around and doing fuck all on the ball and off it

We're in a huge funk, at the crucial part of the season. Yes there's arguments that may be less rational, but equally there's no reason to blindly ignore what's in front of you

I thought he was boss (not momo boss like) until he fucked himself up getting injured on international duty. He’s been pants since. Lost all rhythm and confidence. Kid is still a kid and we will see a much improved player after that.

Moral of the story, don’t go on international duty.

Why not, it's Captain's responsibility to have words just as well as the Coaching team.
He is doing it every game multiple times and opposition are getting a break in our own half each time.
Hendo would probably have done it.

I was responding to you suggesting "VDK" was the captain
