Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai admits he battled with the club's medicos ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

Szoboszlai was missing for the win against Chelsea due to a leg strain.

And he later told local Hungarian TV: "They (medical team) are careful with me.

"If it would be up to me I would play (today). I hate it. I hate not playing. I had a lot of disagreements with the doctors."

I need him to show up in at least one game against one of the better teams.
Is a belter against Man U too much to ask for?

I need him to be more aggressive on the ball on the dribble once in a while. He constantly just passes it back when he gets the ball on the wing.
That trait has been highlighted in his time at Leipzig as well. He can go on a mazy run when a defender doesn't expect it, but he is no Mane to constantly go past his man on the wing – that's a different skill set.

But agree with you – even with all that said, I think he can pass the ball back less. Someone like Elliott always tries to find a way to move the ball forward.

Is that not what he did for his goal? I know Szobo has that quality in him over the others but that could really be said for Mac Harvey and Jones can't it which makes me to think it's the managers plan to be more of a possession based side.

As long as he's occasionally popping up in positions where he can influence games and he's getting enough touches on the ball in those areas then I'm fine with it.

What is up with him lately?

Since the Chelsea thumping it's been average performance after average performance.....should we be more concerned or is it just a patch of bad form? Doesn't look like the injury he suffered is affecting him.

I think it's coaching. On the international stage he has a different role and looks better for it. Here he's more restrained. I think he's learning his new role and that's why he's playing different to the start of the season, when he was playing his normal game

when he was playing his normal game
Yeah I don't think his change of role with Hungary helps but surely he's a quality enough player to adapt?

This is ultimately what we need him to get back doing....he seemed to do a lot of good work out wide and mixing his game up at the start but we don't see him do that at all now, he doesn't overlap or help double up with Bradley on the right (which would then release Mo more centrally), seems a bit all too one dimensional, pick up the ball and drive....rinse repeat.

I can’t believe many players will have a better coach than Klopp. He so plays mostly against dross with Hungary so it’s a big change here. It’s not Klopp’s fault then he currently does stupid flicks in his own half, it’s just basics.

This constant intensity is probably like nothing he's ever experienced before. Plus playing on the left isn't helping.

He shouldn't be an automatic starter currently but don't think we should be too harsh in the criticism

For me Szobo was the main culprit, when you think back he squandered at least 3 huge chances. The 1 where he went through on goal after Mo played him in and shot straight at Onana, the 1 where Robbo put it on a plate for him and he missed the target from the penalty spot and then the one where he opted to slide Bradley in when it was crying out for a shot.

The telegraphed short passes that get intercepted is what gets to me. Is that something a good player does just because it's a different system? I know the pace of the game was intense at times, but he seems to do it in a lot of games. After such a good start to the season as well, so quite disappointed with his quality so far.
His workrate can't be questioned, and he seems very durable too. It's not a Keita style disaster and I still have high hopes for him, but he needs to cut out the schoolboy errors.
Right now I wouldn't mind seeing an Endo-Macca-Elliot midfield start a game.

Yeah he can be way too careless in possession so often and it usually happens when he isn't even under pressure. Yesterday there was at least one of these that caused a dangerous counter

He's literally the Hungarian Hendo since he came back from his injury, and I really don't like it.

"Of the 24 ground duels the visitors’ starting midfield three contested, just eight were won, with five (out of 10 attempted) of those coming from the impressive Alexis Mac Allister.

Wataru Endo (2/8) and Dominik Szoboszlai (1/6), meanwhile, lost far more than they won, allowing United to continually get a foothold in a game they should have been nowhere near."

This is how I saw it, we were same in the FA Cup. In 2nd half, we lost the midfield AGAIN !!!
We should be looking at a DCM in Summer to at least rotate with Endo.

Once he's match fit then an Endo-Macca-Jones midfield is likely our best. Difficult because if Szobo was playing as he was early season then he walks in.

Its weird that he's become one of the scapegoats. Covers more distance than anyone, more recoveries and and does so much pressing and off the ball work that is one of the reasons this team ticks.
It seems to limit his game somewhat, so it will be interesting to see how he will develop next season. He's also been learning a new role this season as well as an 8 in a Klopp team.

Creates loads of chances and should have more than 7 goals and 4 assists. But thats not to bad in all honesty.

Some awful posts regarding Szobo in this thread. An excellent midfielder already at 23 and will grow into a World class player in the next few years.

Comparing him to Hendo and Keita. Get to fuck.

Don't forget the finger pointing!!!

In all seriousness he is a brilliant player but since the Chelsea game he hasn't played 1 game you can label as being brilliant.

three REALLY good chances in the first 17 mins. TWO, you would have put money on ANYONE to score.
