As I understand it, the entire idea behind the inverted full-back tactic is that you have a player who is so tactically disciplined that he can cover 2 positions at once depending on phase of play. When folks were saying how Trent can potentially be better than Stones and Zinchenko in that position, they kind of missed being tactically disciplined part - roaming around the pitch is NOT the same as covering 2 positions, in fact it’s kind of the opposite! This is why you actually need a Stones type, rather than Trent type, to make it work.
