Had a mare today for sure and hasn't been great overall in his last few outings. It's a conundrum for Klopp cause even when he's shit he's still better than Jones and Elliot.

Not today he wasn't. He runs faster than I do but otherwise I think Im about at his level today and I'm shit in a co-ed rec league

I think he was overhyped in the beginning and it all felt a little bit emperors new clothes for me - sure he looks the part and there are things to like about him, but a steal at 60m, signing of the season etc?

Maybe it's still me being thick and he is tired, struggling to adapt to the unique demands of Klopp's current system etc... or something else, who knows.

He's clearly got a lot talent but right now - at least in a Liverpool shirt - De Bruyne mk2 he is not.

Move Szoboszlai to the LCM position and you'll see how good he is.
I thought it was a mistake to sub him

He showed absolutely nothing for an hour, if he didn't want to be subbed he should've showed even a little bit. His passing was horrendous, the 1 shot he had was horrendous. His link up play was horrendous. No one to blame but himself & it's probably time to take him out the XI for a game or 2.

The three in front of him were shite too.

Yep & they'll be plenty of other threads for that. We couldn't sub all 3 of them off as well because we only had 1 attacker on the bench.
He could have subbed Diaz and played Gakpo on the left. Subbed Salah and put Szobo at RW.
My point is, that we're not using his strengths.

Maybe so but he was playing just fine in the same position the first 10 games or so. He was MOTM in about half of those and close to being the MOTM in others......so what's changed?

Maybe it's Klopp running him into the ground? Maybe it's babysitting Trent?
Maybe it's our front three being shit?

So how would moving him to RW suddenly sort all our misfortunes?

The team would still be disjointed, someone fresh would still need to come in Szobo's place and babysit Trent wouldn't they? I don't think Harvey is your guy and seeing as people make such a big deal over which side of midfield players play, clearly Jones isn't your guy either. If we haven't worked on that in training then obviously we're not gonna see it in games.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but as is, we're not getting the best out of Szobo.

Or Trent, or any of our forwards. It would suggest it needs a change in system, too many players off form for too long now.

Salah is too isolated on the wing, no one within 10 yards of him....2 Utd players around him at all times. Our front 3 as a whole play too far apart, there's no quick one two's in short space anymore.

Klopp running him into the ground, he is only playing one game a week and getting subbed off at times.
When he started playing well fans bigged him up into something he’s not.

The energy is still the same and his defensive work was good today. But thing that you are all upset with regarding the misplaced passes and getting the timing wrong - has been there from the start when he started passing but not so frequent as today. The problems today could be down to two factors:

1) The movement with Mo/Trent was out of sync.
2) Gravy playing with Szobo on the pitch at the same time is an absolute shit combination.

I haven't ever bought the hype with him, but it's the system that needs work. These players just aren't playing more than the sum of their parts on the ball. The interplay isn't that great and hasn't been for a long while. We don't have time to work on it so it's just go again go again and attempt to figure it out on the pitch, and that's what it looks like.

I go back to -

MacA at DM - not as good defensively as Endo, but better at moving the ball. Endo still has a role to play - but I’d be getting MacA back in there.

Slobbers & Jones as the 2 8’s with each tasked with drifting out wide - leaving Mac A & Trent in the centre.

Gakpo as a False 9 - helping midfield and creating space in the centre for the 2 wide players to run into (supplemented by the 8’s overlapping).

Sakah & Nunez wide for me, at least until Jota gets fit.

The 2 8’s can stay central if the 2 FB’s go high wide.

Now you could put Slobbers as the left 8 instead of Jones & Harvey right.

The weakness of that is Harvey is defensively weaker in the middle.

Gravy as the left 8 isn’t good at providing width - so that needs the LB to be further forward which leaves a gap at the back - works better if Endo is the DM and can drop in between the CB’s to allow them to spread out without a gap in the centre you could stear an Aircraft Carrier through… sideways.

All the systems have pros and cons, weakness and strengths.

I think we need to trust Endo a bit more and play him consistently as the DM we've been crying out for. Until we get a far better upgrade, he's shown he's good enough so far.

And then play Macca in his best position.

Endo
Szobo Macca

I'd like to give that a go and see if this 'Macca's best position is an AM' holds any truth or not.

I think endo has emulated everything Mac's offered so far, and borderline exceeded it.

I'd rather try mac in one of the 8s with endo remaining at the 6.

Otherwise agree

From those charts it's Diaz that we need to worry about. In attack Trent is actually pretty much where he should be as a RB, maybe a tad too much infield but still mostly in the right place. However Diaz is supposed to be our LW - but he's mostly in a small patch in the centre, leaving Tsimikas to patrol the whole of the LW in both defence and attack. Gravenberch pretty much where a LM should be too.

We played our best football when Jones was in the team. He's the closest we have to Gini.

I don't think he's that great at creating chances but we need a piano carrier and Jones is actually very good at that.
