Most popular names on kits this season:
1) Dominik Szoboszlai
2) Mo Salah
3) Alexis Mac Allister
4) Trent Alexander-Arnold
5) Darwin Nunez
6) Luis Diaz
7) Alisson
8) Virgil Van Dijk
9) Cody Gakpo
10) Andy Robertson

Never worn a shirt with a name on the back but had I chosen 1 at the start of the season.....would've been Darwin.

Today? For sure it's be Szoboszlawin.

Poor the Robertson.

I thought the Wolves game was his best display for us in ages. He was absolutely brilliant. He didn't have to go into the back three, so he could go marauding, and he was left totally alone, but his delivery was brilliant. He should have had at least one assist, and he could have had several if our forwards were sharper.

You are joking right ? - that first half display where he could not even get his short passes right was the worst display by him so far. Yes he made up for it in the second half - but I noticed one weakness in his game after that game - at times he was holding onto the ball for too long even in the 2nd half. The team lit up when Diaz, and Nunez came on.

Ok, his best crossing performance then. Although yeah, I'm talking about the second half, pretty much everyone was shit in the first half, wolves put more than half their energy in, and our whole shape was fucked.

I think our whole shape looks better with a striker that likes to work off the shoulder of a cb. That's pretty much Nunez. Jota can do it too, but doesn't have the pace.

I thought he could have reacted to Wolves' first goal abit quicker and got closer. Against England Kane gave him the slip as well when he reacted too late.

Let's hope it's just a few early season blips.

In Steven Gerrard's iconic No 8 shirt, Dominik Szoboszlai is enjoying a fast start at Liverpool that has already made him a fan favourite - and could see him end up the smartest Premier League signing of the window

Yet aside from his on-the-ball prowess, the Hungarian is winning acclaim for what he does out of possession. He has run 57.7km this season, 7km more than Liverpool’s next best water-carrier in Andy Robertson, who has covered 49.5km.

Not just is he busting a gut to make defensive recoveries or arrive late into the penalty area at the other end, Szoboszlai is covering ground with unique pace. Since the 2020-21 season, Opta data says only Kyle Walker and Chiedozie Ogbene of Luton have hit a higher top sprint speed.

To underline his all-round midfielder role, Szoboszlai ranks second at Liverpool for both successful passes (263, behind only Robertson’s 304) and times won possession (33, behind only Robertson’s 38). Only Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have created more chances.

During an interview up in the clouds overlooking Singapore’s plush skyline in July, Mail Sport asked Szoboszlai to name his idol, expecting him to namecheck a legendary midfielder. ‘My dad was the biggest influence,’ came the response.

Zsolt, a former footballer in Hungary’s lower leagues, was the theme that the chat continually returned to. ‘Many people make the mistake of dreaming,’ Zsolt told a Hungarian newspaper last week. ‘We did not dream but always paid attention to the task and progressed step by step.’

The father-son duo were quite competitive, with Dominik playing football from age three. One drill involved the young player having to weave in and out of plastic bottles in their living room to improve his agility. If one bottle fell over, he was made to start again.

‘I stayed dribbling until it didn’t fall over, I stayed trying until it was perfect,’ he told Mail Sport back in July. ‘Dad made me play football with golf balls in my hands. It was to make sure I wouldn’t foul people, to grab the players’ shirts, to focus only on my feet.’

Szoboszlai has a tattoo on his forearm of a quote attributed to Liverpool legend Gerrard, which reads, ‘God gives you talent, but if you don’t work hard and sacrifice a lot, it is nothing.’ Whether or not the Englishman said it is unsure, but the thought was there.

Another wacky coaching method Zsolt had was to force his son to play in boots too small for him, due to a Hungarian theory - which comes from the days of the great Ferenc Puskas - that if your feet are small, you have better ball control. Szoboszlai wears size seven shoes.

The theory sounds a bit bizarre but, after watching Szoboszlai flourish in Liverpool’s new-look midfield this season, maybe those Hungarians were on to something. Noting the crazy midfield trolley dash this summer, Szoboszlai at just £60million could be the bargain of the summer.

One of the most impressive starts to an LFC career that I can remember. I was confident about the signing, but even so I've been pleasantly surprised.

I wonder, if he'd be even more effective playing on the left side of midfield. Especially in attack, allowing him to cut in and shoot. Might get more goals out of him.

You are soooooo desperate to get Curtis out aren’t you. Chill bro!

He's brilliant isn't he? I mean, it's rare for a player to come in with his background and hit the ground running so fluently, and to be such a big influence. You can see he has not just quality but the demeanor and personality to have a big impact on the club. We always seem to buy the right characters, give or take the odd blip. But this lad has been exceptional and arguably the Premiership buy of the season so far, it's early days I know, but we did well out of the Summer, aside from the CB thing. And even Quansah looks a good prospect. We didn't get Bellingham, but we sure as hell delivered in pretty much the best possible other way with Szobo.

He is having a similar impact on our midfield as Virgil did on our defence when he arrived – someone so confident and cocky and so good at what they do just lifts everyone around them. With him on the pitch you feel no problem is unsolvable.

I wonder how much would Szoboszlai be worth in the open market, if there wasn't a release clause...

I wonder how many Liverpool fans would straight swap him for Bellingham?

I wouldn’t.
This might sound stupid and maybe it's the LFC fan in me talking, but I almost want to say that Szobo is a better fit than him.
I'm not sure that Bellingham would do the defensive work Szobo does.

I think he is and he’s just about the fittest, strongest specimen of a midfielder around. Add to that his seeming natural air of authority (without the Bellingham inflated arrogance) and he’s just about fucking perfect for this side (and Klopp).

We’ve hit the fucking jackpot for 60m quid.

The best quality that Szobo has is his mindset, I know this sounds wrong - but honestly when he talks he sounds like those army types you see in the films - the type that believe that they are superior to everyone else and refuse to lose, and force their will on their opponents. The guy don't want to lose and will not lose, he is like Klopp's will being manifested upon our entire team. No matter how good Jude is - he is still a kid in my book - a very good one, but I don't think he has the mentality that Szobo has right now.
