I agree about Cavani but why Ramos?
He is far better than anything we have now and would clearly improve us.

If you guys payed £30 million odd (the amount being suggested) for Ramos I'd laugh my balls off. He's 29, he still lacks discipline at that age. He's been used to playing in a league in which his team is vastly superior to almost all others, and in games played at a considerably slower pace. Adaptation to the PL is never a given, but for an ageing player in the most physically demanding league in one of the most physically demanding positions– that's a tough ask. He'd be a risk on the wages he'll demand on a free, but for the money being touted, it would be a crazy signing. I'd love it to go through.

But if we paid £10m would it be a good deal?

True but we can well afford the wages with the clear out we have had.

makes you sound constipated

Van Gaal and United are doing well at roping in the big names but imo they're signing ones with big question marks over them. Depay looks like a good signing though, jealous of that one.

Why the fuck do some people on here entertain that manc..... It's clearly a windup. And it's nothing to do with opinion, and or it's because he's a fan of football. You go on another footy site to be a cunt... End of.

Because I like talking to people about football and he seems alright.

I hate United as much as everyone else but it's nice to talk about something other than Benteke, Sterling or Lacazette.

Utd selling Valdes because he refused to play for the reserves last season. Would love it if they lose De Gea and Valdes this summer. Love it

I'm actually gutted with United's signings. If in doubt throw money at it... If only we were able to do the same.

I'd expect the Mancs to go very close to winning the League or actually win it with the squad they have now.

The main one where there are questions marks over is Schweinsteiger.
But as an extra body and an alternative/replacement to Carrick I think he is pretty solid.

No transfer is without risk but given what is available for £13m it is a low risk transfer. I'f we get 18 months out of him it will be money well spent.

What questions would you have over Schneiderlin?

Ah now.....

We are getting way ahead off ourselves. Top 4 is still the most realistic target for the year. It would be nice if we are a little more comfortable than last year by the end of the season.

I reckon there is zero chance of us winning the league this year.

It's more the big names Van Gaal has signed or is reportedly interested in

Schweinsteiger - missed 50 games in 2 years
DiMaria - thought he was signed on the back of the peak season in his career, not sure he was worth it or will ever reproduce it
Falcao - didn't do a lot
Ramos - what @doctor_mac said

In fairness he got a champions league spot last season so those signings did their job even if they were unspectacular. Depay and Schneiderlin look good to me.

Only because we imploded and had striker issues almost from the off (fuck off Transfer Committee & BR). We were unlucky with Sturridge and I think would have walked 4th had he stayed fit. This season is a completely different beast though.

This is how I see the coming season so far :

To disregard Arsenal would be based on bias. They showed last season that they are a threat and signing Cech is a massive boost. If they improve their midfield & attack by adding a high quality player to each then they must surely be in the mix come the end of the season. If Chelsea are favourites because they have a stable side and are just adding quality (and of course the transfer season isn't done - does anyone seriously believe that Chelsea / Arsenal will spend under 20m this window ?) then Arsenal are in that same boat.

City's ageing side may be an issue over the course of a full English season with CL ambitions, Sterling is better than Navas and strengthens their attack but he is far from consistent or a match-winner, their midfield needs urgent attention as does their defence, if they get Pogba/Vidal and a strong CB/LB then they could remain relevant as far as the PL title goes, however even though they have the money I'm not sure the players they need are available this Summer. There seems to be a lack of depth in the availability of top quality players, which also affects finding a suitable striker, Aguero and Bony is far from enough (with Jovetic and Dzeko likely on their way) for a full season in the PL/CL.

Some of the United fans who believe they are soon to become PL favourites are smoking some heavy shit. We saw last season with Di Maria, a world-class player, that even players of his ilk can have issues settling into a side, maybe because of United/LvG's style of play or for other reasons. The same goes for DePay, Schweinstiger & Schneiderlin. It's a big step up for DePay, he could end up being phenomenally successful like Suarez or he could struggle as so many others moving up from minor leagues have done, oodles of goals in the NL doesn't equate to oodles of goals in the PL. Same goes for Darmian moving from Italy, he may require a period of adjustment, he may not.
Schweinstiger does have injury issues so United need luck too to get a whole season out of him and he's spent his whole career at BM, this is a major transition for him for all the usual reasons (style of play, new team mates, new country, language etc. etc.). One would assume Schneiderlin would have the easiest time adjusting, however we've many times seen good PL players move clubs and just fail for one reason or another. To expect all of those four, plus a new CB and striker, to hit the floor running is beyond fantasy.
United of course still need a CB and striker. Rooney, Wilson (a 19 y.o. boy) and Hernandez (if he's still there) are simply not enough and I'm personally not sure Cavani is the answer either considering he spends all his time on the wing for PSG, even though he historically regards himself, and has played as, a #9 he's far from set the world alight when played there for Argentina. As for a CB - is Ramos the answer ? Maybe.

All that said there is no doubting that United have brought in some quality players and the team will be much stronger, they need a better CB pairing (even though Schneiderlin will help shield that back 4) and another high quality striker. Currently I have them 3rd, we'll see if they get that CB and striker where that takes them, but I doubt very much it'll be to the top of the PL this season as there is too much churn in the team and I believe you need a stable side to win the PL.
Chelsea must be there or thereabouts, Mourinho has a proven system and is only adding to it. The manager could be the difference. Title winners again.
Arsenal have a stable side and will strengthen with one or two high quality players and can not be ignored, 2nd for me.

I don't see us (who have undoubtedly strengthened, it's ridiculous to dismiss that fact) or Spurs challenging those 3. City are the only ones susceptible to being dislodged from the Top 4 and, depending on who they buy (and they will, expect to see at least another 70-80m flow out of their coffers) even that may be a forlorn hope.

I'd suggest the above (FF's post) probably warrants being spun off in another thread as a separate discussion focused on the title and CL consolation place race, while this thread remains the one for the summer transfer rumours / moves of other clubs.

Valdes refused to play for the reserve team last season, that's why they're giving him the boot. What a tit.

I'd love to sign Goater.

As for Utd. Schweinsteiger is probably an investment to have either him or Carrick fit.
If they get 25 games out of each of them it covers the season.
There was such a big difference to Utd with and without Carrick last season.
Its a risk mind. 13 mill fee and 13 mill wages per year.
But they can afford it.

Schneiderlin and Depay are great signings.
Top 4 at least and maybe a title challenge if they get a quality striker.

City could be the team to catch in the top 4.
Oh how we'd laugh at Raheem if that happens.

Prepare, weigh up, swoop etc. Hyperbole in football transfer language does my tits in.

Reporter: Are you signing Ramos?
Club: We're thinking about preparing a bid.
Reporter: How much for?
Club: €60m. Don't tell anyone though. Could make negotiations difficult.
Reporter: 'Course not. Cross my heart, hope to die.

United have bought well, but they've still got a very average defense, I'm not convinced Ramos would rectify that either.

Yep, and De Gea will go too.

There was a story yesterday in AS saying Madrid would give him a 5 mill sign on fee if he just waits and signs next year. They have Navas (I think) for the year and then they can bring in De Gea for much less overall. Not Madrid's 'way' really.

Van Gaal has basically thrown Valdes out of Manure (for not playing in the reserves).

It would be idea if they start the year with that scando keeper as their primary keeper.
