Moreno

A defender who can't defend is just going to be a liability no matter how nice he looks on the ball.

I remember Moreno being quite fearless in the away game in Madrid – so I don't buy the notion that he gets overwhelmed in "big games." However I am far from convinced by his overall defensive ability and that's the reason why in some games he gets exposed badly.

He's always out of position defensively and I've not seen him close down one cross all season. Going forwards the only thing he seems to be good at is giving the ball away to the opposition. I know he's young but I've seen very little all season to make me think he's going to make it.

Jury is out for me with Moreno. I'm a bit Meh on him. I like him and I think he's our first choice LWB but I've no motivation to provide a defense for him. He has pace, give us balance (to rob a Rafa-ism) and seems to be popular with his team mates. However, he often breaks down our attacks and is regularly out of position. He has plenty to work with I suppose and has youth on his side.

This thread is comically knee jerk, he had a bad game against a team that set out specifically to catch him out of position, also on the list of people who played shite yesterday Can Allen Sterling Lallana, I suppose they are all garbage as well

He doesn't actually bomb forward with the speed and confidence he did in that first game against Spurs. Presumably that's because he's been told to be more disciplined, but without that buccaneering side to his game he looks very naive and limited as a defender and a bit cautious as an attacking wing back. Positionally, so far, he's about as shaky as Warnock used to be. The potential to improve is certainly there, but he needs a lot of coaching.

It's not knee jerk if you have been watching him all season, the thread is recognition of his general shitness after as bad an individual performance as you're likely to see from a full back, he's had a free ride up until now because of the Spurs goal and because many other shite summer signings have deflected focus from him.

He's bang average, his best asset is a bit of pace, he's far from a solid defender, his defensive awareness is almost non existent, attacking wise all he really does is stand wide as an option and 9 out of 10 times takes the easy option when he receives the ball, even when he's on the run one on one with he'll do the Downing trick, stop and just lay it off inside.

His passing, crossing and tackling leave a lot to be desired, he's also so ridiculously one footed which doesn't help.

Also, yes Allen is garbage as well, total garbage.

On the whole, Moreno has looked pretty shit to be honest. In his defence(no pun intended) that wing back role looks proper tough but the lad looks clueless at times, his distribution is poor and he doesn't assert himself on games whatsoever which is disappointing because early on he looked a very confident player albeit a raw one.

Hasn't all been bad. There's that obvious goal at Spurs which rightly or wrongly allowed him some leeway with fans despite a string of ropey performances. He played well at home to Swansea(scored as well) over Christmas and I thought he was very good when he came on at half-time at Southampton. Other than that I can only recall average to shit outings from him which is a shame because I like many others had high hopes.

He's only 22, first season, new league yaddy yaddy ya. Hopefully we're all raving about him next season but at is stands now, meh.

Young lad and still adapting. Has done alright this season but needs to step up. As every young player he has had good games and not so good games while developing in a new country.
Far to early to give up on him. He's been an integral part of this turn around since the Utd away game, even though he isnt stealing the headlines as some others.

Defensively poor but might improve there. I have some sympathy for him in attack as we simply don't know how to use width to our advantage. Moreno goes wide, one player is in the area and Coutinho and the rest are watching from 30 yards away

Without the width, we reduce the space around the centre halves which affects what the striker(s) can do once they receive it. Add a couple of quality wide players to this team and we'll see how effective 3-4-1-2 can be

I'm optimistic when it comes to Moreno.

He's positionally naive and is far too rash but it feels like the raw materials are there.

The usual "get rid of Our left back" thread... Left backs doesn't win you anything... Neither loose you anything. Same as All Our defenders looks shite it is Down to that we don't defend very well as a team.

That's ridiculous. Players lose you matches and he has cost us goals and points all season with his shambolic defending. Complete joke the 1st goal, Moreno gets way too much slack, he is desperately poor.
