He was poor again today. Left holding his pants on the first goal, didn't contribute much the other way either. Desperately low on confidence.

He's not a good player. He's pacey and has a good shot...sometimes. He's okay in the tackle too. But everythig else is lacking. Another feather in the cap of an awful summer which has set us back.

That's quite a bit to be going on with for a fullback, especially a young one who's still got lots of time to improve. I'm not giving up on him this easily.

He's a little fucking shithouse. Criminal defending for their first goal. Just when we had the better of it. Fuck off.

It was absolutely atrocious but there should have been cover. Not one centre half came across until it was too late.

That's like the bare minimum to get on the pitch. Hes missing everything between the ears. Which is the part that counts.

He was at fault again for the goal, but he saved our backsides a few times on the break, he raced back on at least three occasions and made a great challenge to win possession back. I don't think our expansive system really helps fullbacks when it comes to positioning. It's ok saying that he's the one being targeted - of course he needs to improve, but when your position is generally as far as the half way line, it's asking to be exploited and it has, time and time again. It'd take a miracle worker to play that role and not get caught out.

It begs questions again about the coaching of defenders. Okay, you can't make players bright if they're dim, and it's hard to improve some aspects of their game, but, really, there are basic text book errors that seem to go uncorrected week in, week out. Take yesterday, he's trying to block a shot in the area, so he puts his hands behind his back, and then turns side on with his eyes shut. He does that over and over again. He might as well not bother and avoid deflecting the ball. Once again, of course, there is no option these days of sending him to the reserves where someone can bark at him until he gets it right, and god knows what Pascoe and others do with him at Melwood. It's frustrating because he's not a dud, he's got potential, but he hasn't improved one jot after we've worked with him for months now.

I have heard mention of Bertrand on quite a few forums and, for the life of me, cannot fathom why he would be considered a better player. Playing for Liverpool is so different from playing for Southampton. I'd say let's keep our beady eyes off the latest Southampton player who flashes and focus on the fact that our top goal-scorer has 6 league goals. Until that is properly addressed, we are always going top blame [rookie] defenders for lamentable team performances.

He saved us when the game was done in the second half by using his pace to get back in.

Fact of the matter is he cost the opening goals in our last two games....and as we all know the first goal can be decisive.

It's all well and good using your pace to make a recovery tackle, but when it's a massive game and a tight contest you simply can't switch off the way Moreno does. He needs to buck up his ideas.

Not only that, but those two goals had nothing to do with him being on the half way line.
He was just very shit defensively.

He's pretty shit, but I do also feel sorry for him in that he doesn't have a Hyppia helping him out, the way Djimi and Riise used to during the Rafa/Houllier eras.
