Sturridge and his mental frailty

For the record - I'd sell Sturridge should the right offer come in.

He's clearly talented, but all his issues add up to a destabilising problem.l that we can ill afford.

He feels like a luxury we can't afford with our current resources if he can't overcome his injuries and sort his head out.

Sad.... but there you go.

So which side covered the most ground of any side in the league last season?

GegenBurnley.
Yeah but Burnley didn't have enough talented players to profit from gegggggenpressing or turning the ball over.

I reckon that's a bit harsh TBH. His injuries seem to lie at the heart of his other difficulties and (fingers crossed) we may now be on the way to sorting the injuries out, so it's legit to hope the other stuff will follow. IMO it's a chance worth taking (a) because of his talent, which is top class, and (b) because I can't see us getting an offer which properly reflects that talent anyway.

I agree.

We don't have the resources to replace him with a better striker who will be fit more often.

Let's face it, were sturridge not injury prone he'd be playing in Spain or for City/Chelsea. He's the best goalscorer in this league when he's fit (note I didn't say striker, that's maybe debatable).

Jesus. It's been a while since anything so wrong was typed on SCM.

I'm not being critical of Sturridge's ability - though he's not in the same league as Augero.

I think he's a wonderfully talented, exceptional goal scorer..... when he's fit AND confident.

I do think he throws his arms in the air and sulks too quickly when things aren't going his way.

I also think there's a distinct possibility he'll always have injury issues.

I don't think we can afford too many "if only Sturridge hadn't got injured we'd have finished top 4" seasons.

Harsh.... yep.

Wrong... quite possibly.

I hope the injuries are a thing of the past and he cements his position in the team.

I don't think they are.

For me he IS in the same league as Aguero !
Show me a striker that doesn't throw their hands up in frustration, Aguero does Suarez did for example.
Hopefully he can put his injury issues behind him and we can benefit, imho it would be a gamble to sell

It's because he wouldn't pose for a photo with you, isn't it?

But when Sturridge gets frustrated his head goes down and he often disappears - Suarez, for example, was driven by his frustration.

I guess what I'm saying is - yep the Sturridge of 2 seasons ago when we were 2nd - superb. The Sturridge of last season - problem.

I'm not sure what Sturridge we have now - I hope his injuries are a thing of the past - if they aren't and more importantly, if he's mentally fragile, then he can't be relied upon to our most important player.

Again, to be clear, I'd sell if the deal was right - but it would have to be s really good deal for us.

Studge is like one of those beautiful Italian sports cars that you see in those posh showrooms, full of promise and a real head turner on sunshiney days but you know you've got to keep your breakdown service dues paid.

He needs to keep the Ferrari badge but get a bit of German engineering under the bonnet.

Phew these analogies are hard work.

You could've just said he was an Alfa Romeo, would have been quicker & just as accurate.

Bobby Robson used to get himself into a position of weakness through his tendency to practically idolise his best players, which was a credit to his natural love of the game, but unfortunately for him his best player was often crocked. Bryan Robson at England was the most egregious example. Robson would talk him up as Captain Marvel, stress how vital he was, then he'd end up reduced to sending the player to faith healers in the vain hope he'd be ready for a tournament. And, as a consequence, the whole team would seem sickly with worry about their absent talisman. That's what Klopp needs to avoid with Sturridge. The player has done nothing wrong, but if he can't keep fit long enough for everyone to stop wondering how much longer it will last, that kind of fear will fester. All the emphasis so far in the coverage has been on Klopp's demand for a physically fit team, but he also demands a mentally tough team, too. As a fan of Studge I really hope he can push on now but it's a vital moment in his career.

Kidnap one of his family members and force him to play. Cut off one of their fingers every time he fails to score a goal.

Injury worries over the Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge mean he remains a doubt for Sunday’s visit of Southampton.
The England international has missed the last two matches with a knee injury sustained in training before last Saturday’s goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur.
Sturridge will undergo another scan on Friday but his chances of returning for Jürgen Klopp’s first home league match appear slim.
“I spoke to him a few minutes ago. It is not much better at this moment,” said Klopp. “With Daniel’s injury we have to proceed day by day. If he can train, for example, completely normal then it is an option.
“Today we have another treatment and another screening maybe because there is a little bit of fluid [inside the joint].”

Ah Harry Kewell, the man who has busy massaging his ankles, and pretending to be injured, as AC Milan Roared forward and got their second goal and it was Kewell's man that then scored being as he was unmarked. Wanker.

Mentally frail.

I said last season we should look to sell Studge because of his injury record.. I was frowned upon by many.

I still maintain we should look to do this, if his injury record does not improve by the end of the season.

Sell him get Reus..

I think Reus is the only player I've ever seen with 2 pages of injuries on transfermarkt

Funny that the best strikers in the league are all regularly broken at the moment, Aguero and Costa are also picking up a lot of injuries.
