Balls!

In the meantime, those that are currently playing are doing what exactly? Not winning any second balls never mind even challenging for them, frequently pissing away possession and doing absolutely nothing to try and regain it😡

Except for the same platitudes— “… need to better …”’ “ … need to improve …”, “… letting ourselves down…” blah blah blah!

Realistically he needed a loan move in January, but that would have relied on an ounce of proactivity and foresight from the club. Without it 2022/23 is a wasted year in terms of his career and development. Diaz and Jota are due back on the second half of the season, so his opportinities will only decrease further.

Our system doesn't suit him but then again 433 doesn't seem to suit most of the available squad.

The system and tactics are the greater issue than the personnel available at present

This is it.

I saw him few times for Fulham and I don't accept that he's lightweight.

Yeah, I'm slightly perplexed by concerns over him being lightweight.

I haven't watch much Championship football but how is it "less physical" than than top flight football? I thought it was known for being physical, esp. in the lower leagues (unless things have changed over the years). If he can thrive in what was his 1st full season in senior football last season, I can't see why physicality is/will be a major issue.

Remember the game against City after the world cup where he played and scored. Rico Lewis was able to easily take care off him using simple body checks. He did score a goal but was otherwise invisible.

I think physicality is becoming an issue because of the role he is asked to play. In Klopp's team, attackers have a lot more responsibility, particularly if you play on the wing. They have to come back and press, provide protection for the defense, they have to aggressively take on defenders. I dont think that is Carvalho's game. He is more like a number 10 who can find space and provide clever passes. Unfortunately, to play that role in a club aspiring for top 4, you need to be ridiculously talented and delivering assists and goals like anything.

Second, could be the way teams are setup against Fulham. Maybe they leave more space which a technically clever footballer like Carvalho can exploit.

I am puzzled at what role there is for him. I would play him in Gakpo's role not because Carvalho has been great but I see a chance of goal threat from Carvalho. Maybe in a fully functioning press monster Klopp team, Carvalho would be ideal to come in and provide that additional technical impetus in the last 10-15 minutes. But in a team which is struggling, where his role is not obvious, it is a bit unfair on him also.

Is Carvalho the new Minamino? Underused inexplicably when we're crying out for some attacking edge.
Probably, almost as if Klopp’s not entirely convinced and, as with Keita hauls him off or leaves him out after a mediocre performance.

Because he is a pure attacking mid?
I am still in wonder about how Elliott keeps getting game-time as a midfielder.
I like what Elliott can do as an attacking mid - he has vision and an ability to play the pass. But defensively he's a liability (three times he carelessly, not under any real pressure, gave the ball away yesterday, starting two breaks and in the other it was on the edge of our box) and he isn't a tackler at all. That isn't helping us one iota, we need to take care of the ball more in the opposition ⅓ of the pitch.

Like Carvalho, the talent is there, but how to nurture it is the conundrum as the way we are playing isn't helping anyone to throw either of them in.

They both don't fit into the way we are set up to play. So, I guess they should both be plan B options, when we need a lock-pick or someone between the lines.

Elliott should be understudy to Salah. We don't play with a 10 and until we do, there's no point forcing Elliott in to being an 8.

Likewise with Fabio. Maybe either one of them could be coaxed in to being a false 9, but who knows.

Strange 1 for me too, cant figure it out.

Just stick him on there and give him the license to free role behind the front 3….not as if we play with any identity so fuck it whats the worst that could happen.

A midfield of Trent, Bellingham and Bajcetic would make me very happy. Carvalho can offer something different, same with Elliott, both have time on their sides to progress, but they need game time. Going out the cups so early hasn't helped.
