I’ll just say it…

What would you do in the summer?

Neuer being out of contract at Bayern is potentially a key variable here. That could be a good fit for both parties.

I'm cautious about letting the best keeper in football go but we are dealing from a position of strength at the moment.

Our transfer policy is a sham, in order to fund transfers we will sell both Kev and Ali.
Ali will probably end up at Bayern or somewhere in Saudi and Kev for some mid table Prem team.

I think this is one of these things where without insider information it's just impossible to make a judgement call.

Alisson is the best in the world. If he is happy to stay and the medical team can provide assurances that he's not going to become a crock then the ideal scenario is that he stays.

Kelleher is a good young(ish) keeper and personally I think we need to see more of him as he still hasn't had an extended run. He could either continue to improve or get shaken when things go against him. The former looks more likely at this point but you never know.

Marmardashvili, no matter how promising, remains an unknown quantity at this point. From the outside looking in, it feels unnecessary to gamble everything on him.

In short... dunno!

That's not so much about our transfer policy and more to do with the fact we have tight arse owners who don't give a fuck about this club and now a sporting director who can't be fucked getting out of bed, the lazy sausage.

The only reason to sell Allison is if the physios believe he's gonna do a Torres and we should get shot of him for a good wedge. Caoimh has been great so far but I get the feeling Allison is still just a little bit better.

Kevin deserves to keep his place for now, but he doesn't seem to go very long without getting injured either.
Him and Alli should do a deal with each other to be number one while the other is injured.

Seems to be working so far.

It won't be a Torres situation. Torres just lost his pace. Alisson doesn't really need to be lightning quick.

Marmardashvili has some way to go before matching Kelleher in terms of distribution / ball playing. Maybe a loan to one of those woke / hipster lower mid table teams that insist on playing ball would be good. Ipswich / Southampton / Bournemouth / Spurs / Palace ?

We were rumoured to be sending him to Bournemouth on loan this year before agreeing to keep him at Valencia.

He was saying that the club checked with him about signing Marmardashvili.
Also talks about him being old, honoring his current contract(2026) etc.
How there's interest from Saudi.

He hasn't explicitly said that he wants to leave but I'm just reading between the lines. Feels like with us signing a new keeper, we're giving him the option to leave.

Thats the way I took it too. Kelleher and Mamardashvili to compete for the #1 spot next season methinks.

To be honest, O have not noticed that Alisson is missing because Special K has been that good...and to be quite honest he always is great when he is called upon.

It's the story of every business nowadays.

Have a great internal promotion prospect, knows the business, has been doing great. When the boss is out, covers excellently.

So what do you do? Spend more on someone from somewhere else, and he has to fuck off because everyone just thinks of him as the intern that started out at the company.

Where does Mamardashvili rank?

83rd with a 64.3% save percentage.

Then again the stats I'm looking at does have Ali 1st with 88.2% but has Kelleher 18th with 77.8%.

The table above didn't look fully accurate as it's hard to imagine there isn't a keeper across 5 leagues who doesn't come between Oblak (8th) and Gulasci (3rd).

And it's also very misleading because it will depend on the strength of each defence and how good are the chances (xG) they are conceding. Ours are not high.

He was the best keeper at the Euros. 11 more saves than the next best and played 2-3 games less than Simon, Pickford, Maignan, Verbruggen which is quite ridiculous.

For me a keeper is doing his job if he's keeping the ball out the net more times than not. Conceding 8 goals in 4 games isn't ideal but when you're making 29 saves in those 4 games, it reads a bit different.

I guess (Mamardashvili aside) it's a case of deciding whether to lose a top class keeper and miss out on probably only a year or so of him, or gambling on losing Kelleher and potentially missing out on years of a great keeper at peak age.

A lot really rides on the new lad doing as well as expected. Potentially we could lose two great keepers and end up with one who isn't a great fit after all. We know what Kelleher can do, it's not really great succession planning when we could easily have just asked Kelleher to see out a year or so before becoming permanent number one. It basically just says we don't rate him, which is why it's fair play for him to ask to leave.

It has to be said though, Kelleher is very good, but he's not as good as Ali. As I've said previously, there are plenty of instances where I've felt that Alisson would have done better in certain situations. Kelleher's reflexes are good, but I don't think his natural instinct of the flight of the ball always is. Maybe it's something he'll just get better at.

As said earlier what he loses in goalkeeping ability (not much) he gains in knowing when to hoof the fucking thing instead of titting about inviting pressure. Ali is better, but not by much at all.
I think Ali is much better in one on ones, in a breakaway which we aren't conceding right now anywhere near as much.

I think he's the best ever at those though.

There is no doubt Ali is the better keeper but if he is not going to be available all the time then he has got to be worried about his place.

Kelleher has been excellent so far and it is likely he will want us to make a decision at the end of the season.

But he often hoofs it with an opposition player's foot inches away, having stood there with the ball inviting too much pressure. I wish he'd stop that bollocks. His long balls often lead to nowhere because of this.

Ederson at City's the best example of how to quickly get rid of the ball to a player in space.

I will be interested to watch Ali again when we build from the back because Kelleher has been close to exceptional here. He can play it long with both feet and like you say uses an element of common sense that neither Ali (or Ederson too!) uses. Maybe its a brazilian thing to want to try and Cruyff turn a striker versus just booting it
