Virgiling on the vandijkulous

That's great, I guess (and long overdue). Now the question is, will Man City and Chelsea jump back in the frame for him? I think it's still possible and I don't think we should assume VVD's stated "preference" for us is ironclad. At this point, he will jump at any chance to move away from Southampton.

I suppose if we match any bid by other clubs, VVD would choose us. Southampton shouldn't have a reason to refuse to sell to us as long as we match other bids.

Hopefully the bidding doesn't reach some obscene figure.

What is Southampton refuse to sell to us as a way of "punishing" us for tapping up and unsettling their player? Or if our inept management is still scared about a potential complaint to the EPL, so they will "honor" their pledge to drop out of the bidding?

Didn't they examine Southampton's 'evidence' post-apology anyway and find we had no case to answer?

Does it not look like his transfer request is suspiciously tailored to allow us to bid again?

'I would like Southampton to consider the interest in me from top clubs should it still exist'

Ties in with how our apology ended - 'we've ended any interest we had in the player.

Southampton could still refuse to sell to us of course.

And we still kind of answered by an appology! It is clearly a case of VVD tapping us up and hence ows us an appology for bringing Klopp to Blackpool so he could sell in his cause!!!

It does. It will be the invitation we need I guess.

Speaking of melts, a Southampton fan was on the radio there saying if Liverpool offered £100m and Chelsea offered £80m he'd take the Chelsea offer

Nice work Virgil

Don't see how Southampton will be softening their stance on him, they're pretty adamant they don't want to sell him to us so it looks more likely that City or Chelsea have the upper hand. Saw it mentioned that there are parallels between this transfer and back when we were under Rafa and looking to buy Heinze from the Scum, eventhough Heinze favoured moving to us, Ginsoak et al won in the end and he left elsewhere. Point is I'm not ready to set up camp AGAIN ffs.

If we still retain an interest, then I doubt we wouldn't have known about this via his agent before he put in his request.

We'll be back in for him shortly I guess.

Klopps comments from yesterday seems to fit in with the developments today

As a few others are saying, he probably wouldnt have had to hand in a transfer request to join Chelsea/City.

And I'd say both still need a high class CB. This could still end up as the auction Southampton wanted.
