Virgiling on the vandijkulous

No I'm predicting how this will pan out.

We bid a piss take fee, player gets the hump with not taking him seriously.. Chelsea bid realistically and get the deal done..

Player stipulates his point Liverpool did not take him seriously enough in the end, and he chose the club that he felt did

I actually think that's the most realistic scenario, judging by the past experience. I will be surprised if he's not a Chelsea or City player by September 1st.

Given our poor relationship with Soton, and fuck up earlier in the summer, we wont be lowballing. We cant be that fucking stupid

Thankfully, Chelski's bi-annual disintegration, with the manager clashing with owners and the dressing room developing factions, has arrived just in time to make them look pretty unappealing to a player who didn't want to join them when they were looking reasonably normal. Southampton fans seem to think the club can sell him to whomever they like, as if he's some kind of fecking slave. If he wants to come to us he'll come to us.

I'd happily see Chelsea sign VvD for 60 million, if in turn they sell us Christensaen for 30 mill.

Do you think Christensen is as good as VVD? I like him, but to me he's more of a Matip type, a calm intelligent ball-playing defender. We need someone physically dominant to complement Matip.

I like vvd - talented defender but I worry about his injury record and the fact he's not worth 60 million - that's a big tag to play with. Look how it affects players - regardless of their talent. Christensen played at a really high level last year, is younger and also desperate for first team football (as he seems to be a bench player at best this year). If we get him for a small fee, we can perhaps invest the other money in a central midfielder before the window ends? Just think we should be careful here ...

Salah, first time around

OK.

I think if he goes to Chelsea or City, it will be because he wants to go to Chelsea or City, and will have very little to do with us. They'll probably pay him more and he'll have a better chance at major trophies which is his stated aim.

Or we'll low ball him, like we do with most targets

This transfer request thing is confusing me. Some are saying that it signals that VVD wants to move to us, but others are saying that transfer requests aren't necessarily binding and that Southampton fully reserve the right to turn it down.

I can't see them keeping a player which will be completely unhappy - that was a pretty serious transfer request statement.Doesn't bode too well for their team morale either!

On a side note, I can see them really trying to not sell to us but i do think Klopp will have done a job on him and will inevitably join us!

BIG signing if we can pull it off, think he's the best CB in the league.

Well it's a transfer request, not a transfer order, but that statement from VVD has made his position pretty untenable anyway.

Massive City Fan : The reliable sources I follow for City news have all stated that City have not had any interest in van Dijk for a long time. Some interest at the beginning of the summer but soon ended once it became clear how much Southampton wanted, and the player preferred Liverpool.

Let's not think he won't choose whichever of us, City or Chelsea Southampton are able to strike a deal with.

He just wants out. We're the only ones to say we want him.

I've thought all along if City or Chelsea come in for him he's off.

He's said it's about Europe and trophies.

In that list we come in a distant 3rd in terms of potential to compete year on year.

Not really. Southampton have been in this situation many times and have still kept players for one more season.

There'll be a bidding war now and his value will end up being ridiculous, I really don't know about paying 60M for him, there's got to be better out there for half of that.

Half of that gets you a Lindelof or a Rudiger who, according to most, are not in VVD's league.

Long term they may end up bing better value - who knows - but I believe If the player is right, the price is right.

Don't Diss 'the firm' they got it spot on [emoji3]

6 weeks later mind...

But the inside info is better than anything we ever had at Koptalk
