Virgiling on the vandijkulous

As if a club like Soton would leave a 60 mill player sit in the stands for a season.
I dont get the hatred in regards to selling to us either, we've paid them some hefty fees these last few years. 20 mill for Lovren being the top of the cherry.

For 60 mill £ they could strengthen 3 positions, not look weak and secure a top 8-10 league spot.

Their fans are up there with the Blueshite now in terms of bitternes.
To be fair to them at least they can see, and oppose being our will paid feeder club, as opposed to Everton who seem completely oblivious to the fact they're Uniteds bitch.

That kind of stuff is laughable. And so is all the 'Southampton will sell him to another club to spite LFC' guff. Maybe we should have sold Sterling to Norwich for a couple of million, just to spite City, or Suarez for £10m to Tenerife, just to show Barca. Clubs can't force players to sign with other clubs if they don't want to play for those clubs. If VVD wants to sign for us he'll sign for us and not some other team. He's not a slave. He'll go where he wants to go, and the club will have to concentrate on getting as much money as possible.
I suspect that the purpose of all these stories is to do just that

Quite. But it can very easily be over-done. If a club wants to finish the saga looking like a strong and satisfied winner, then too much of the 'over my dead body' stuff will make any ultimate deal seem like a bit pathetic.

Of course it is. The Chavs and Citeh started sniffing around van Dijk at least as early as we did. Southampton may well not have wanted to sell initially, but the prospect of a bidding war will have got their juices flowing and they will have known full well that "unofficial contacts" will have been made because everybody does it, probably including Southampton themselves. They then saw that prospect slipping away when van Dijk made it clear he wanted to go to LFC and nowhere else, and all the fuss they've made - including all this latest dickswinging about leaving him to rot in the stands - has been a total put-up job to try and get around the player's determination to join us. The media of course have leapt on it because it provides them with headlines and copy, but that's par for the course. The most disappointing thing in all this, apart perhaps from our incompetence in letting word get out, has been the readiness of some Liverpool fans on here and elsewhere to swallow the whole stupid fairy tale.

Le Tissier was a lazy, fat-arsed footballer who ultimately decided against joining bigger clubs because the challenge scared him and the greater workload and degree of professionalism expected terrified him. He didn't stay with Southampton because of any great loyalty; he stayed there because they left him alone to exist on Big Macs, idle away the evenings in pubs, clubs and wine bars and forgave him for only turning up in sufficient games to help them to stay up. It's a bit pathetic now he's reinvented himself as some kind of icon of 'proper' values, sneering at players who have more ambition than him, greater discipline than him and more courage than him. And he can shut the feck up, too, with his endless anti-LFC whining.

The tweet was funny, it's more that Le Tissier has had it in for us for ages, for some reason.

Le Tissier is just having a laugh. And it's pretty funny.

There he is but haven't you heard him all through the past three seasons? Moan, moan, moan about Liverpool 'stealing' his team's players.

Here's a random selection of his quotes from the past year:

“I remember the days when Liverpool used to be quite classy in transfer negotiations".

"I hope Liverpool fail [to qualify for Europe] because of how they've behaved towards Southampton".

"It's always good fun winding up Thommo about Liverpool - and it comes pretty naturally, too!"

"Hope LFC do the right thing and let Coutinho go".

"Maybe Liverpool ought to stop stealing our players and concentrate on finding their own".

"I'm not bitter about Liverpool. Maybe they're bitter about me. I turned them down once".

"It's clubs like Liverpool that are acting as if the rules don't exist. They should be punished".

"Do I care about what happens at Liverpool? Nope, sorry, I couldn't care less".

The odd joke, fine, but this donkey-faced waste of space has become one of the most tiresome twats in the media.

I know the Mancs were after him at one stage when he was a player but it's news to me that he turned us down. Can't help wondering if it was really that way round.

I'm pretty sure that was true. We were definitely chasing him one Summer as I can remember being disappointed we didn't get him because he was an incredible player.

I can see why he'd be bitter and I imagine most So'ton fans are towards us. But I really don't give a shit what he says. About anything.

But, yeah, I can also see how his ramblings might wind someone up.

I always thought he looked more like one of those..... either that or had a cock for a nose.

He is correct?

"I hope Liverpool fail [to qualify for Europe] because of how they've behaved towards Southampton".

Absolutely harmless

"Hope LFC do the right thing and let Coutinho go".

"Maybe Liverpool ought to stop stealing our players and concentrate on finding their own".
It is pretty pathetic to buy 6 of their players over a couple of Seasons. We have fucking spent 100 M + pounds on Saints lately.

"I'm not bitter about Liverpool. Maybe they're bitter about me. I turned them down once".
Elegant actually

"It's clubs like Liverpool that are acting as if the rules don't exist. They should be punished".
We have been bullies lately, and even had to officially appoligies to Saints,

"Do I care about what happens at Liverpool? Nope, sorry, I couldn't care less".

I have no idea what his memory is like. But It does sound a bit like you're really straining to join him in seeing LFC in a bad light.

If you want to see Liverpool in a bad light just come in to this place. To point a finger at him for pointing out that we were more classy in transfers back in the days is just sulking.. It is pretty obvious that we are not specially good at transfers. You only sound bitter when pointing the finger at him.

Your English is much better than my Norwegian but you've misunderstood the point here. When Le Tissier says "used to be more classy" he's not talking about whether or not we are, to use your phrase, "good at transfers". He's referring to our conduct over the van Dijk transfer, and in doing so he and his club are talking cr@p because every club does what we did, so there's no justifiable reason to single LFC out. He's also doing it because he's an @rsehole who tries to put the boot into us every chance he gets. Don't FFS start imitating Dreamy and talking us down to try and appear Objective with a capital "O".

His points would not be points if it was about the Van Dijk transfer alone. But it is not like it is the first player we were after from Saints. It has become a fucking joke and he makes a few jokes on our behalf which we very much have laid the fundation for ourselves. And there are a few ways to respond where bitterness is one of them... And if we can't handle those innocent jokes about ourselves we should not point at others calling them bitter.

Quite. It's six of one, half a dozen of the other really when it comes to how we've behaved towards Southampton and how Barca have behaved towards us.

We've picked off four Saints players on the bounce now in a short space of time and we're now looking to add a 5th, and to add insult to injury, it seems we tapped him up fairly openly and let ourselves get caught with our pants down. I don't blame them for being fucked off.

If the boot were on the other foot, which it more or less is and Barca's officials or manager had met with Coutinho or his agent, prior to any sort of formal approach, we'd be seething. Just like they are.

Barca might be more powerful an influence with their national press and some International press, in putting stories out there to put pressure on potential selling clubs, but we're equally underhanded in approaching players, just at a different level to Barca. I mean, for fucks sake, it happens in grassroots football and always has done, it's just that the more money involved in an underhanded transfer, the more the outcry. If the laws were more stringent and the Governing bodies had the balls to amend THEIR rules with regards to things like agent involvement, co ownership, wages and transfer fees, then we wouldn't have this shit, but as it is, it's a forever bloating and infinitely out of hand monster now.

Either way, poaching players is poaching players. You can't scream blue murder at a bigger club approaching one of your better players, when you play the same game with smaller clubs.

What has Le Tiss pulling our leg with a rather funny joke ( I know people here are tired of "just buy who Saints would but as replacement") got to do with Barcelona and the powers of footie?
