They still don't know what hit them.

This is GEGENPRESSING.

Sevilla won't know what hit them. Thank you Klopp and thank you FSG for signing probably the best manager in the world that we could get.

If they read your post they will know what's coming.

I think this was probably the first time Sturridge and Firmino combined so well up front this season. All the goals came from Firmino's supply into the box for Sturridge, who either scored or created the conditions for the goal (pressure caused the own goal, mishit his shot for Lallana's goal). It seemed like Firmino knew if he could get the ball into the box, Sturridge would be there to pull the trigger. Hopefully they'll be able to repeat that a fortnight later.

Just noticed from the highlights that Klopp seemed pretty stoic after Sturridge's goal. Wonder what that was about.
He sometimes does that when we go ahead - he says he turns to the crowd to watch/enjoy their reaction.

Basically there was a subtle experiment going on where thousands, perhaps millions, of avid Liverpool fans had verbal cues for boobies delivered to them dozens of times over 90 minutes - but during a tense semi final when an entirely different part of the brain was firing on all cylinders and in control.

Remarkably, for most, the constant references to boobs never made it through the fog of their sporting emotions. Only a select minority, of which I'm proud to count myself, were able to distinguish a signal among the noise.

I believe the science. It's weird, though. I genuinely thought everyone was making tit jokes, and being so late to cotton on myself, I just started saying 'tit' ironically, in a defensive, self-deprecatory way, to show I had finally caught the joke.

There was a Patient Zero in there somewhere.

Dirk Kuyt, as good as he may be,
Hit every branch on the ugly tree,
Like Fowler, Crouch and Craig Bellamy,
Dirk Kuyt’s boss but he’s f***ing ugly.

What's the common perception of the comparative value of an EL final place (in terms of ranking footballing achievement, not money)?
I mean is it comparable to a top four finish? A semi-final berth in the CL?
I guess the question is asking for a ranking of possible seasonal achievements and categorizing where this fits in. Just curious what others think.

Fucking brutal from Klopp.

Journo: "The Villarreal manager has said that you're a great manager, but he would never be like you in victory"

Klopp: "I would never be like him in one second of my life, and he's a great manager."

I call bs from marcelino.

how elsedo you expect someone to react when your team has just reached european cup final.

idiot, go back to breastfeeing soldado.

Yeh, pot kettle black much, he's probably only critising Klopp because Klopp critised those antics last week, but he just ends up looking bitter.

Reaching the EL final maybe comparable to qualifying from the group stage of the CL? I dunno.

Ultimately there is no value if we don't go on to win the trophy. And 'top 4' shouldn't even be in the discussion. Competitions general rank:

1. League
2. CL
3. EL
4. FA cup
5. League cup

* EL goes above the domestic cups only because the winner now qualifies for the CL.

What a complete tool this manager is, haven't heard such a load of crybaby wailing for a long time!

"on margins of the rules". "Each time we created an overlap, we suffered a push or a kick."

was he watching the same game as the rest of us?

Yep. And why was he complaining anyway - his antics in the first leg were ridiculous.

If we win and get a CL place, isn't it the case that only the top 3 qualify for the CL?
Nope, five English teams in the Champions League.
As was the case for Spain this season with Sevilla getting there courtesy of their Europa League win.
If Man city had won the Champions league and finished outside the top four then the forth placed team would drop to the Europa league

Damn. Somebody on this site was pedalling that story.

*scans forum suspiciously*

Forget the skill by Firmino (understandably hard to do, I know) but who is Klopp yelling at?

I think he's telling Moreno to stay back, not sure.

Good question. My guess is he is laying into Moreno for taking a low-percentage shot, when there was an opportunity to build a quality attack instead.

I think in the Dortmund home game, Klopp celebrated wildly all the goals except the decisive one from Lovren, when instead of letting his emotions loose he did quite the opposite – turned his back to the pitch, looked at the crowd and kind of took it all in. So I think this is Klopp's way to celebrate the most important and decisive moments and Sturridge's goal yesterday was definitely one such moment.

Why don't we have some happy, high, very deserved ratings?

Won't bother with any detailed analysis: we were very good and deserved to win. Klopp picked probably the most attacking side possible, and one that everyone was pleased to see.

Mignolet (8) He wasn't really busy, but he made one vital stop from a decent (deflected) shot. Also used the ball decisively and quickly, and was alert and off his line when required.

Moreno (7) I know his reckless charging around the place can be problematic, but he really does offer a lot in that position offensively; he's like a pocket whirlwind. One or two silly challenges, which seems par for the course.

Lovren (8) He made several quite majestic challenges and was calm and almost imperious with his use of the ball. Even had a header. Well played.

Toure (7) There was one horrible moment where his total lack of mobility looked as if it might cost us, but that was it. He coped pretty well with what threat there was, even if their quick striker got the better of him once or twice.

Clyne (8) He's a very good player and had another very good game. Always involved, rarely makes a mistake. What a fabulous signing he has been.

Can (8) All the more remarkable given it was his first game back after an injury that should have kept him out for longer. He totally owned the midfield, and started many attacks from a deep position after winning back the ball. Looking more and more like what Liverpool fans expect a Liverpool midfielder to be: confident, powerful, good passer, works hard, takes control. If he keeps consistently improving, we will have a star next season.

Milner (8) He was our best player in the poor first leg, and was again a top performer. Used the ball well, and showed some lovely close control, flicks and short passes that illustrated a technique that many thought he didn't have. Another fine game in a very fine debut season as a Liverpool player. The only issue I would raise is that he does very often shift to the flanks, and that does leave Can almost totally on his own in the middle. We won't always get away with that

Coutinho (7) A real thorn in their side, popping up all over the place. Didn't quite get his shooting right, but a big improvement on his last few games.

Lallana (8) Extra point for the goal, given it was so unexpected. He worked feverishly hard all game, although his impact in the first half was minimal. Scored in the second and was a menace. One turn and shot was great to watch.

Firmino (8) All that was missing was a goal. After several displays of quite depressing mediocrity, the addition of a striker to play with added amazing focus to Firmino's game. He was involved in almost everything good, set up two goals and floated around the pitch looking to hurt Villareal at every juncture.

Sturridge (8) Well, what a surprise. Playing an actual brilliant striker seemed to work! His movement, control and menace caused Villareal problems they simply didn't have in the first game. He wasn't really clinical - goal wasn't wonderful and he blasted wide/ over on several occasions - but we wouldn't have won without him. Made a statement, if one was needed.

We'd be yelling SIGN SIGN SIGN if we saw that in one of those player compilation vids. Firmino put in some shift last night.
I love the way Soldado tries to kick him then tries to grab him but he's already away.

Moreno (7) I know his reckless charging around the place can be problematic, but he really does offer a lot in that position offensively; he's like a pocket whirlwind. One or two silly challenges, which seems par for the course.

Moreno would drop down to a six in my book due to that indulgent shove. It should have been a penalty to them and he has priors. cf Norwich game.

I like his pace, determination and willingness but he can be quite the birdbrain at times.

I didn't think Lallana did much in the first half, apart from running about. But then, wiseness after the event is very common, with very regular revisions going on.

I even read one poster claim Firmino was "actually very good" in the first leg, which is obviously risible.

I was happy with the team he selected. It was the same as the one I would have picked
