Villareal post-game goodness

I hope we don't think the Final is ours for the taking. Seville won't relinquish that trophy at all easily. I know Villareal are ahead of them in the league but I reckon Seville may be an altogether tougher nut to crack on the day.

Comparisons between managers are always tricky, but I think I see what you're getting at comparing Klopp and the King. It's the strength of the emotional connection each of them has with the fans. Shanks had it too and based LFC's modern era on it.

Fair enough. To be clear, I'm not saying he is Kenny incarnate (or whoever), he is very clearly Jurgen Klopp and he is his own man.

There are some similarities though with Kenny, particularly the way he is canny with the media, but the way he has brought unified everyone and brought that bit of pride back has echoes of the feeling at the beginning of Kenny's second stint. They are both clever fellas, who just "get it".
They both show their passion when we score, unlike Rafa or Brendan. Cant see either sitting cross legged at the side of the pitch during a CL Semi final penalty shoot out 🙂
Even better I cant see either of them rubbing their faces in bewilderment as we go 2-0 down at home.

Exactly that. Thank you. There are some similarities there.

On the subject of Sevilla, part of what makes them so dangerous an opponent is that they are gunning for three in a row. That kind of pressure could either make them or break them and adds an extra unpredictable edge that perhaps might not have been there had Shaktar gotten through.

Finals are never easy though, look at the last time we won this trophy - Alaves were not really fancied but put up a huge fight.

Klopp's reactions to events are not always consistent. He didn't even watch the penalties against Stoke.

His reactions are honest. I'm sure Rafa's and Brendan's were also, but Klopp has the benefit of being a bit of a mirror for the way a lot of fans feel a lot of the time.

After a year and a half of hearing how much character Rodgers' side had and them not showing it, Klopp's approach was a bit of a breath of fresh air - even if it isn't wholly unique.

Yeah, I much prefer the honesty and emotion of Klopp. Never seems to be faking it, and quite frankly the occasional embarrassing or emotional OTT reaction is miles better than stoically pretending to make notes when we score a goal, or whatever.

Makes things far more interesting

Reporters ask the daftest leading questions

"It was getting feisty out there, how important was it for you to keep your heads?"
"Actually it didn't matter at all, if we all lost it, went in studs flying left right and center and picked up a few red cards it would just add to the overall excitement"

In fairness, asking most footballers open-ended questions in that type of interview would end in disaster. Or silence.

He was watching the crowd, something he always does and has spoken about doing a fair amount.

He always watches the crowd? Or just during penalties?

Anyway, I don't care, I'm just saying he's emotional and sometimes he's well fiery and goes berserk, and other times seems a little more subdued. Same goes for his interviews.

He said in an interview last night that he does during the important moments, his example was he looked at the crowd for Sturridges goal as it was the important goal, but not the other two.

Awesome - Just caught the whole match on some Thai channel. Annoyingly I'll still be here for the final (I leave here on the 22nd) Footy results have been kind to me while Ive been writing 'mind maps' exploring 'slippery behaviour' and attempting 'recovery plans' - All good though fellas. Day 40 and 16 days to go - Onwards and upwards 🙂

Will you get to see the final?

Not live mate 🙁 I only have internet twice a day and the TV is a bit erratic. Actually thinking about it I'll ask the Thai staff if it's on normal TV. Being a final and Liverpool it might just be. Good call! Most of the staff here are reds fans so they will know. Otherwise I'll just have to wait until morning.

yeah seems like it might be innocent enough!

What's it like to do what you are doing in Thailand?

Difficult to describe. It's extraordinary, profound, liberating and fucking scary at times. Overall though it's healthy and long overdue. I'm absolutely in the right place at the right time 🙂

I didn't think Lallana did much in the first half, apart from running about. But then, wiseness after the event is very common, with very regular revisions going on.

I even read one poster claim Firmino was "actually very good" in the first leg, which is obviously risible.

I was happy with the team he selected. It was the same as the one I would have picked

That's what I said after the first leg as well. Firmino was rather poor coming back from injury, but his improvement in form started with the game in Villareal and the home game confirmed it for me. It was just harder to see because he didn't have a partner like Sturridge in the first leg and he is not the type who can create lots of chances all by himself. But his touch, passing and decision-making were already markedly better in that game.
