Misconception one - You have to drink lots to be an alcoholic - Not quite. The term 'functioning alcoholic' is a dangerous one. There really is no such thing. You may be an alcoholic who holds down a good job or has a fairly good family/social life but sooner (rather than later) it will come crashing down as the addiction becomes more pronounced.
Misconception two - You're More fun on Alcohol - Yep. This is called 'Euphoric recall' Classic denial.
Misconception three - You were successful in hiding it??? This is a form of 'denial through rationaization' Sure - To that one person you may have seemed fine. An alcoholic grabs hold of that sentence and uses it to rationalize the drinking behaviour. You can be sure there were 10 other people who knew full well you were smashed.
