Decent squad, that. A tough selection problem, but I'd go for:

------------------------------------------------------------Lady-Boy---------------------------------------------------

Fag-------------------Queer-------------------------------------------------------Tranny--------------------Poof

-------------------------------------------------------------Dyke-------------------------------------------------------

------Bender-------------------------------------------Princess------------------------------------------------Lezzer

------------------------------------------------------------Midget---------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------Knob Jockey------------------------------------------------------

Lady-Boy can be relied on to look after himself. Queer and Tranny would need to help each other out throughout the game. Fag and Poof would be given licence to push up hard and fast whenever they see an opening. Dyke will patrol just outside the area cutting out passes and generally looking for trouble. In the absence of the suspended prick, Lezzer will be able to relax and come inside whilst Bender will be available to help out at dead ball situations and get things moving again. The great thing about Midget is that he can be relied on to see things quickly and join in as Knob Jockey makes his movements.

Subs: Arsehole, Clit, Pansy and Wang.

Manager: Brendan Rodgers.

This appeals to my juvenile sense of humour - and I like it.

Yeah, the one thing that I never liked about Rafa was not displaying any signs of joy when we scored a goal. That gif is joyful.

How on earth could you not have noticed him? Nearly every pass out of defence went to him. Do you only watch the "exciting bits" like goals and saves in a match?

Exactly.

He was the one doing the uncool things; like retaining possession endlessly, winning the ball back, and being the first point for just about every attack.

In any other league in the world players like him are revered. In the Premier League when spastic fans don't see slide tackles, stepovers, or 40 yard screamers, footballers "do nothing."

There's a reason why he plays every week. There's a reason why his teammates and Manager love him. There's a reason why we're conceding so few goals. There's a reason why he's in the Brazil side.

And it's not because he "does nothing".

Couldn't agree more. It was most unhuman-like
I believe that this was Rafa's way of instilling in his players the notion that scoring a goal or winning a match was a normal occurrence - (as opposed to something special). It was his way of trying to encourage a winning mentality or mentally strong team.

Jesus. What a nincompoop.

Oh and anyone who thinks Lucas does nothing isn't watching the game unfold with a discerning eye. But it would be nice if he scored at least once or twice a season like Mascher did.

Whoscored.com recorded that Lucas led all players on the pitch with 4 tackles and 3 interceptions, among other stats to suggest that his participation was not so unremarkable. But don't let those stats fool you. He really did nothing all game.

I've asked you before and you never answered so i'll try again . How good to you think he is ? Compare him to players past , present , whatever you want , what bracket do you rate him in as a def midfielder ? And do you think he's good enough week in , week out for a team competing right at the top ? (not that we are but that's the level we should be aiming for at some stage otherwise what's the point )

So when do you think it'll come out that Rodgers is having an affair?
He's gone from pudgy norn Irish lad to sexy skinny mofo in a season.
The only thing driving that is how god awful his missus looks compared to all the players' wives.

Why do you need comparisons to past or present players? What difference is that going to make?

I really don't see the point in that. I've outlined countless times what he's good at and why he's important to us.

OK let's put it another way because I'm another that is interested in your opinion on Lucas in a team competing for the title (I'm torn on whether he's what we really need or not. Against teams which come out to play yes, against 10 men behind the ball for most of the match, no) - should we be aiming for better ? If so who would be a good target ?

I'm well aware of what he's good at and why that role is important to a team . That doesn't mean he's good enough at it or can't be improved on. You seem to rate him very highly so i was interested to see how highly , by comparing him to other players . but anyway i am bored of this already so no need to answer .

He's important to us as we dont have another player with his "qualities" in the squad.
Once we do, he'll be benched.

He's average. A midfielder for a club that finishes 6-8th in the league. I doubt he'll rediscover that famous 6 months form he showed before the injury tbh.

Can we have a player in the starting eleven that offers nothing going forward?
Look at Paul Pogba. Leading the defensive stats in serie A but also contributing with 5 goals during the season.

If we're going to break into the top 4 we need better. Someone who doesnt get bypassed by nearly every player, is slow, gets showed off the ball and offers nothing going forward.

The reason we're conceding so few goals is because Mignolet has made 30 saves in 6 games. Not because of Lucas.
He's won a whopping 67% of the tackles he tries. Schneiderlin for example has won 90%.

His type of player is more important to the system than Lucas himself imho.

Lucas isn't good enough for a team wanting to challenge for major honours simple as that.

Alot of other players in our squad aren't good enough either btw.

He's important to us because we don't have another DM. Gerry asked how he "couldn't be noticed" because the ball came to him from the back line everytime, talk about a wafer thin argument.

He retains possession by being generally tidy with his passing, if unspectacular, and that's more or less the point. He carries possession and breaks up the play in a no nonsense way, that's important to any side, but when you're looking for that bit extra, or when he's pressured, his inadequacies come to the fore.

Considering his defenders keep saying that picking up numerous yellow cards/giving away soft fouls is part of the territory, I find it amazing that his disciplinary record isn't scrutinised more. The commentators the other day said it was ridiculous how many cards he's picked up this season, and it is. It's also staggering the way every game he manages to bundle a player over when usually in a situation where said player is approaching the final third, but still in an area with enough men behind the ball to snuff the danger out. When a player is on the break and you need to make a cynical challenge and take the card on the chin - that's part and parcel. Bundling clumsily into the back of someone time and time again isn't.

Sheer desperation there from Ryan anyway - "there's a reason he's in the Brazil squad". There's also a reason why his caps have been awarded sporadically throughout his career, and given some of the criticisms levelled at International sides and their squad decisions, it's all a bit laughably desperate an accolade. Well done to Lucas in joining the likes of Klebersson in being a Mr Average getting picked for his National team. I bet Argentina, Spain and co are shitting themselves.

So yes, Lucas is essential to us, we need someone to break up the play for us and keep things ticking over if we're to maintain our distinctly average midfield, particularly one that's consistently challenged for the positions at the fringes of European Football. Nice lad, true pro, tidy unspectacular player who is a worthy squad member but ultimately not rounded or talented enough to put a stamp on a top side consistently. We need better, he might not deserve some of the kickings he gets, but he's not really deserving of the accolades for essentially covering the basics of his role and offering nothing beyond that nor any sort of ability to excel consistently at what he does, in practice or in terms of discipline.

Lucas wasn't important at all when Spearing was around. Barely noticed that he was missing when he did his knee.

I know, fancy him paling in comparison to a Championship player.

Yes Modo, it's telling that we missed him when that's all we had to rely on.

Well he wasn't a Championship player when he wore red was he?

Basically, I'm getting this vibe that you and others are saying that anyone could do Lucas job. Well Spearing couldn't.
Did Chunky Adam do a good job at DM? No.
Joe Allen? No.

Did I make an argument for or against him? I just find it incredible that someone would not have noticed him, he's on the ball an awful lot.
