So.......Shelvey.......Shite ?

So not doing anything is preferable doing something good occasionally?

Im not having a go at Suso, it just seems he has a reputation thats vastly out of proportion with what he has achieved compared with Shelvey, I dont think you can use the 'he hasnt fucked up' yardstick because he really hasnt done anything at all so far

Quite, Suso has pretty much shied away from doing anything in the first team, so I fail to see how that makes him a better prospect or performer, he's just got a more exotic name. I'd rather see Shelvey fuck up occasionally trying to make things happen, as opposed to hiding in the shadows, which is essentially all that Suso has done so far.

Suso has done nothing for us. Shelvey has had some cracking games.
And to say Suso has never fucked up is idiocy given hes played about 3 times for us whereas Shelvey has played about 30 times.
If they both left tomorrow only Shelvey would be remembered.

And im not saying he WILL make it, im just saying give him time.
We've got posters on here nowadays who are telling us which players will make it based on how they play in the U16's!! Not having a go, obviously its great that they have an insight, but its no great judgement of wether a player will make it at the top level.

If a player is ace in the youth team, he has lets say an X% chance of reproducing that in the senior team. If a player is not showing the talent that would help the senior team, but is given time to develop, then lets say there is a Y% chance he will develop his talent sufficiently in all the different areas he needs to.

If you had money at stake, will you think X% is greater than or lower than Y%?? So this is why some fans have more hope that Suso can simply adapt his existing talent and intelligence to senior football. Rather than hope that Shelvey will develop a wholly new talent and intelligence.

exactly.

I've always said that Suso is the most talented u20 player we have at the club. Having seen him play for the u18s, Spain's u19 and the reserves, it's clear that this lad can become a really good player.

He still needs time though. He himself stated that he needed to get stronger in order to cope with the physical side of the premiership.
Other than that I really want Brendan to give him a chance in the middle.
I've only seen him play there once for the first team and he put on a great performance. That was in the league cup away game against West Brom.

He (Suso) was excellent against Chelsea in the second half at the Bridge, he ran the game and ultimately changed it in our favour.

I agree generally speaking. I said a while back that I think Shelvey needs to go out on loan. There is some kind of a player in there and we can't afford to let him learn on the job here.

Have you looked at all our recruits in every aspect of our club since May of last year. "Come learn on the job" could be our club motto 😉

With respect to Suso, the player he resembles the most is David Silva. Silva's break out season was in 2004-2005. He then spent three years on loan at two different clubs including a year (or two?) in the second division. He then came back to Valencia and it took him four more years to reach the level he is at now. I am not saying Suso will need the same time to progress but we should be prepared to show that much patience.

And it was only at the end of his time at Valencia that he started getting more of a free / central role.

I'm prepared to give Shelvey a bit of time too. I'd like to see loaned out though.

And if both were sold, I'd remember Shelvey for being hot-headed, and missing some complete sitters. I'd remember Suso for being completely average.

Id honestly rather that than just let the likes of Hulk run straight at us Vlad.
If Shelvey had been in Carraghers position last night or in Hendersons last week, Hulk might have got booted up in the air instead of two goals.
I agree and would love to see him given a shot as our much needed "fucking psycho destroyer DM"

Shelvey hasn't had "cracking games". He's had cracking moments in games. There's a difference.

Unless you're talking about some pre-season romp against a bunch of Malaysians or something.

LOL @ Malaysians.
Trufax. A UK based English football agent friend of mine says our professional league is of the under 18 level in the UK.

Shelvey's not shite, he's decent without being great.

He has good technical skills but looks lacking in strength, fitness and stamina. Some more coaching and experience will see him better match his abilities and temperament to the team.

Blimey, Robbie Fowler on LFCTV now really didn't pull any punches about the Shelvster. A 'liability,' a 'red card waiting to happen,' 'his confidence is shot,' etc etc. He did say he thinks Jonjo will come back but there hasn't been so much honesty on LFCTV since Les Lawson admitted his shirt was a bit whiffy!

Wow.

He's right though.
That's my problem with Shelvey, I think he could make it but he seems to be a bit too thick, I admire a lad that has spirit and all that, but he needs to think and calm down.

Shelvey has the technical ability but its obvious there are massive questions about his temperament. I reckon he'll be gone this summer.

Seems a nice enough lad but isn't going to force his way through here.

98% of players playing in the premier league have "technical ability". The ones who make it to the top top level (the Gerrard;s, Carragher's, Giggs', etc) have the dedication and work ethic that sets them apart from every other cunt that can do something in training.

Jonjo Shelvey strikes me as a useless lazy chump. Any cunt can turn it on in a 5-a-side in summer training, I've seen it myself far too many times. It's the cunts that do it when it really fucking matters that make footballers.

I think Ryan nailed it there.

If he can improve mentally then he may be a decent squad player for us

But either way they're cunts?

I wouldn't say he is useless or lazy, but I just don't think he will ever be good enough to play on a top level. Yes, he is young, but he is well below the likes of Henderson or Suso in terms of technical ability. The only thing he can do well is pass the ball under no pressure and shoot when no defenders are near him.

I'm not gonna write him off yet, but he has not progressed as well as expected - early on this season he could have stepped up and grabbed a place in the midfield. If it all clicks he could surprise a few people - one thing that he has got is an 'edge/spunk', a nasty streak a la keane/suarez. This coupled with his natural ability could take him far. Hope he does it here.

The one thing his old coaches said is he works incredibly hard in training, always the last one on the pitch, always working on his game, so he certainly has the commitment.

We could do worse than keep him around as a squaddie but I don't think he'll amount to more than that, not at LFC anyway.

I'd loan him out again. Playing in spurts for us is probably doing him no good if his confidence is gone. He needs a good run of games to find some form.

This is very harsh. His movement off the ball is excellent, and it has gotten him into some great attacking positions.

It's a good sign he went and asked to play for the reserves. His attitude is okay as far as I'm concerned and he's working hard to get through this bad period. I agree that next season he'll come back stronger.
