Pepe to Barcelona?

Sure Utd can win the league despite having several shite keepers.

It will be fantastic having this awesome, youthful, skillful, energetic bunch of front players, but we need a rock solid fucking defence and keeper. Great teams are built on parsimonious defence as well as attack. I hope Rodgers is onto this.

As long as it doesn't involve signing Ashley Williams.

True, but you can do that when you've got a winning momentum going. We have to get to that stage ourselves before we can afford to be as cavalier about this as they've been.

Yeah. I think few will argue that Fergie's key signing when building his first title winning side was Peter Schmeichel. He was absolutely crucial for them, and seemed to bail them out time and again.

Actually, I think it was Cantona. They didn't look like they were going to win the league until he signed.

Barcelona is working hard to bring in a substitute for goalkeeper Víctor Valdés who has made it clear to the club he wants to leave this summer, and it is the Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper Ter Stegen who has emerged as the front runner ahead of Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and Valencia’s Vicente Guaita. The German keeper could move to the club for just €10 million, a more than reasonable price for the club when taking into consideration the keeper is only 21 years old. Other options include Reina or Guaita. The Liverpool keeper has always been top of the club’s list of preferences, but some people within the club are not happy about paying for a player who had previously belonged to the club. The coaches’ favourite is Guaita but the player is not keen on moving and the high asking price may stop any approach being made.

Ter Stegen for 10 million!?!? Oh wow - if that's the case, we need to get on that ASAP. Him and Courtois are the next 'great goalkeepers'

And if Ter Stegen doesn't sign for 1 of Real Madrid or Barca, it'll be no surprise to see him at the Allianz Arena.

You know that article is just paper talk bollox when they dont even bother to consider whether or not the story holds up. Barca spent about 5 years trying to drag Fabregas back to Barcelona and then ended up paying 30m Euros for the privilege. Prior to that they paid Utd 5 mil for a 21 year old Pique who was in the Utd reserve team.

I'll be quite a big fucking surprise, considering that Bayern already have Neuer who is the #1 goalkeeper in Germany.

Or did you mean Ter Stegen might sign for Munich 1860 (which currently shares Allianz arena with Bayern)? 🙂

Seems highly unlikely considering they spent huge money (for a keeper) to buy Neuer from Schalke 2 years ago. Neuer is only 27 so they wont need to replace him any time soon

And he'll chose us over Barcelona. Right.

Some players want to start all games ... He'll get that with us ... If he wants to go to the better team, and they have a position open, he'll obviously end up there.

Neuer is what, 26 no? They don't really have a need ...

It was a tongue in the cheek, seeing how Bayern goes about signing top players from the Bundesliga and weakening their rivals in the process. In reality, Dortmund will need him more, seeing that Weidenfeller's turning 33.

33 isnt old for a keeper though, and Dortmund seem unlikely to be offering the sort of money he would get if he does decide to move outside the Bundesliga. Im not sure Stegen is a great fit for Barca though as he doesnt seem as strong with the ball at his feet as some modern keepers, and thats been a feature of Barcas play in recent years although maybe that will change now that we are in a post Guardiola era

Stegen has received the backing of teammate and former Atletico Madrid defender Alvaro Dominguez to make the jump to La Liga.

“Ter Stegen has been learning Spanish for months,” Dominguez told reporters this week. “He would suit Barca’s style. He has personality, quality, handles the ball very well with both feet and the team starts their play from him.”

Pique went to Barca via Zaragoza but your point still stands.

Ter Stegen will be at the Allianz Arena playing for Liverpool against Bayern in the Champions League in 2014/2015.

He was loaned to Zaragoza for the 06-07 season. He returned to England afterwards and played for Utd in the 07-08 season before being sold back to Barca in the summer of 08

I thought Zaragoza acquired him fully from United and then quickly moved him onto Barca.

Apologies if only a loan deal. As I said, your point still stands regardless of my incorrect pedantry. 😉

Brendan Rodgers will try to jump the queue for Asmir Begovic, if Pepe Reina rejoins Barcelona.

And Anfield boss Rodgers is prepared to offer Stewart Downing to Stoke as part of a bid for keeper Begovic.

If Reina tells Liverpool he wishes to return to Barca, where he grew up in the La Masia academy, Rodgers will also be able to offer Begovic a guaranteed first team spot. He hopes that gives him the edge over Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, who also rate the £15m-rated keeper.
