Has there been a more universally disliked player in recent years? His fans seem few and far between, not many seem to rate him at all. I'm not a Sakho fan either and he's apparently got a few attitude issues of his own, but he's the lesser of two evils. The last player I recall getting similar all round disdain was Poulsen and before him, Degan. People are saying the pressure is on Rodgers for the United game, this is a massive game for Lovren.

Rodgers has got himself into a tricky situation with Lovren. Lovren is his clear favourite against Sakho. But Lovren has to go to Old Trafford with his confidence shot after that West Ham display - so does Rodgers stick with him, know that another Lovren error will pile the pressure on Rodgers, or does he take the other risk of Sakho who hasn't played a single minute this season.

On Lovren himself, at least Poulsen and Degen were pretty much fringe players and not first choice in a crucial position. Surely Diouf was more disliked?

I'd like to know whether Lovren is just genuinely bad, or badly coached. What would he have looked like under a Rafa & Pako coaching set up? He just seems like a bit too full of himself. Against West Ham, about 5 mins before the 2nd goal he gifted them, he went on a run into their half, fucked up a step over and nearly gifted them a goal on the break.

Another question - has there ever been a Liverpool player that epitomizes his manager as much as Lovren and Rodgers?

Can't defend well, inconsistent, slightly full of themselves, struggle to win fans over.

Maybe Rafa and Kuyt

Lovren is pretty bad and has been for most of his career. He may look good under Rafa with Rafa's defensive style and 2 holding midfielders, mind.

I don't hate Lovren and couldn't care less about the supposed "look at me" attitude he has. I just don't understand why we bought him - I don't think anyone does.

Rodgers started the season with Lovren as his man and now he clearly has to stand by his convictions and give him a chance. Awkward.

I can only hope it works out in the end for everyones sake but right now he very much a walking, talking 20M reminder of why we haven't won the league in 25 years - we continue to throw away money on random signings.

Souness and Julian Dicks. 'He's a man'. That was Souey's answer to the question as to why he bought him.

Lovren seems like a massive tit on and off the field, the type that other players - even teammates - don't really like. He ought to be so much better, that's the thing that irritates most, I think. He's not Richard Money or Nicky Tanner. He ought to be a very good defender, but he seems to lack the brains and the discipline.

I may not favour Rodgers but even I can't blame him for Lovren's mistake against West ham. The manager may encourage his defenders to keep the ball and try to play out from the back but to do what he did against a player you know is faster than you when you have the easier options of playing the ball back to the keeper or putting it out for a throw in just points to misplaced arrogance on Lovren's part.
Players like that often make the wrong decision because they think they are better than what they actually are.

It's concentration. That's what marks out the top few percent of centre backs, their skill & talent is usually about par at the top end of the game... Reading the game & concentration equal consistency in that position & in nets, the best are always switched on, some fall slightly below that cos they switch off & it often costs you.

Sadly he falls into the secondary category.

Be interesting to see if the boss drops him after his last outing. Saying that, Skrtel wasn't exactly great either.

It just feels so pointless after 3 pretty good performances against Stoke, Bournemouth and Arsenal.
He kept it simple and didnt try any of that fancy bollocks that previously had resulted in all these errors.

God knows why he felt the need to do everything so fucking complicated again. Shows that for all the decent attributes he's got, the lack of concentration will just keep on fucking up for him and us.

I fucking hate those business acronyms & phrases that are so commonplace now, but as Rodgers seems so keen on them I'd like to see him stick posters up everywhere with KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) written on them.

Let's keep the ball rolling on this.

As others have said Rodger's has made a massive rod for his own back by backing Lovren against (probably) Sahko - then after three fairly average games - well ones he has not made a complete cunt out of himself Rodger's goes and makes it 10 times worse for himself blurting out that Lovren has turned a corner only for Lovren to return to type against West Ham - Lovren has no redeeming features most important of which is he can't read the game. I don't hate him , I'm just infuriated that he gets picked and we don't get to see the potential in Ilori
Regards

He's a poor player and as you say, I think that's the most galling part. I don't buy that he's been a victim of our (admittedly poor) defensive set up. Simply because the majority of his errors have been unforced ones through sheer fucking stupidity.

As for him being a rod for Rodgers' own back, aside from Allen, it's fairly strange for him to put so much faith into a player who's clearly been up and down, he's not been shy of taking his own signings out the firing line in the past, or indeed booting them if needs be.
