its very subjective i agree. in my view world class is a player who would get into 9 teams out of 10. sure we would struggle to get those sort of players, but we should be aiming to buy players who can make that transition whilst at lfc. they will not come cheap and that it waht BR was suggesting when he talking about 'quality'.
That was politely put @red_maradona. This however is an agree and disagree situation. Namely I disagree with you lots and you will eventually come to agree with me lots. 🙂

I see what you're getting at but can't see the comparison myself. two very different players in terms of pedigree and achievement at the points of transfers.

Quite similar in style.. comfortable between the lines, good composure and technique, great in the air and at setpieces. Sheringham hadn't achieved anything really until he went to United.

But he was with the mighty spoooors?

by the time Manure had signed sheringham he had spent 5 odd years at one of the top clubs in the country and banged goals for fun whilst also being a fully fledged international who went on to play over 50 times for england. thats very different to Lambert who has spent most of his career outside the top flight, never played for a top team or established himself at international level. sure their styles are similar, but they are light years apart in terms of pedigree.

again, i think for the right price lambert could have been a good signing but 4m is way too much,

Hmm certainly one out of left field eh?

Of all the Southampton players to shine in the last 24 months, he would have been last choice for most if we are being honest.

If I started a thread suggesting Lambert, I think most would have laughed it off or suggested he wouldn't suit our quick style of play.

Having said that, I can see the logic in it.
At home against teams that park the bus he could be pivotal, will work as hard as Suarez, gets assists, can score and will be on lowish wages and be happy enough getting the odd start and being an impact sub.

Decent business Imho.

Not sure why people are so upset about this. £4 million in today's market is not as exorbitant as it used to be.
This is a great move for an England international, a boyhood Liverpool fan, a great set piece taker, the elusive plan B and someone who will die for the shirt.
I whole heartily agree with this transfer and think he'll be boss for us if it happens.

Lambert? What the fuck is going on here?

Isn't Remy available for £8m? Makes so much more sense. We need back up to Sturridge, and Lambert isn't that, even if he is a decent enough player.

Bizarre.

Also close to signing another saint called Harrison reed for 7.5 million, under 19 player

Never heard of him.....anyone?

Interesting. I read we were after him from some ITK on RAWK weeks ago, but had kind of written it off as baseless.

He's very very highly rated, despite not having made many appearances. I've heard Soton consider him their best prospect, including all the ones in the first team - even Shaw.

Lambert scored as many goals and had more assists

That's all fine but IMO what we need is a proper alternative to Sturridge, cos his fitness is dodgy. Lambert won't start and he won't effectively deputise for Sturridge.

I don't really see the point.

Also, Remy made 24 apps, I think Lambert made 31. And what about the penalties? How many of Lambert's goals were pens? He won't be scoring those at LFC.

Checked a Saints fan forum, they're fucking livid. Club falling apart, everyone's for sale. Apparently the owner just wants to get her money back and get rid of the club (like I predicted).

Their fans didn't seem that pleased about Lambert leaving until the fee was mentioned...it can't be true....£9 million???

Does anyone smell a bell?

This thread just goes to show that we're not used go having a squad to challenge on all fronts.
4m for Lambert is a great signing. Better than Aspas and Borini, and if one or both of them are sold
we could recoup double what we spend on him.

more like 8-9 mill

Yea? Ah fuck that then.

Although, if it's that high, it's obviously a way around Bournmouth getting as much from the Lallana deal,
we'll probably get him for 15m now

I think people have to understand he offers much more than just a 'presence' up front.

He's actually got decent feet, good in the air, good touch, strength...a good all round game.

For 4m nobody really should be complaining.

All those who keep banging on about remy at 8m, he will want 1st team action, and is probably a bit of a cunt, unlike lambert who will play with his heart on his sleeve and will get 110pcnt every game.

Southampton played more in our style than Newcastle did though

Oh yeah, he's a sound footballer. I'm just not convinced we need a different kind of striker. IMO all our attack lacks is depth, and Lambert doesn't really address that, because we'll have to play slightly differently to how we would if Sturridge was in there.

Ah well, just have to hope for the best.
