Genuinely didn't realise that this had happened. Anelka playing for WBA.

Just hang up your boots man!

WBA aren't a bad team though I think they'll have a very tough time this year ... Lukaku was very important to them.

I think all sports people have two choices when they are getting on a bit. They can either retire while they are on a high, or keep on playing as long as someone will pick them for a team. I think either option is equally valid. I don't think any the less of Anelka because he has signed for WBA. I often wonder how our club would have fared, had Houllier not terminated his short-term contract. I think Aneka would have scored loads of goals for us.

Top athletes should always quit their jobs while near their peak, as that is more emotionally satisfying for the fans. Why are they being so selfish?

Some pundits tipped him as the *coup* of the summer.
How do these morons actually get paid.

A bit harsh on someone who was a complete professional when with us and since never said a single bad thing about the club.

I wish him the best, and would be delighted if an ex-player like him did well.

That was GH's first serious blunder. Our attack was frighteningly good for those six months with Nico leading the line. Rumour has it that Thommo and some of the senior players (with the notable exception of Robbie, but there were selfish reasons for that) were astounded by the decision and didn't agree with it. I also heard that Bergues couldn't believe it when GH compounded the error by signing Diouf instead, as Hansern says.

Nicolas Anelka may have kicked his last football as a professional after walking out on West Bromwich Albion.
The former France international is considering his future in the game after a tragedy in his personal life which led to dramatic scenes at the club's training ground.
Officially, Anelka has been granted compassionate leave for an indefinite period after his agent, Eric Manasse, died earlier this week.

But it is understood that the ex-Chelsea and Liverpool forward, now 34, cleared out his locker, taking his boots with him before informing the club of his decision to call it a day.
According to sources within the club, Anelka had been considering his position some 48 hours before communicating it to his employers.
It seems that Manasse's death hit the player hard and, after collecting his personal effects, he went to see West Brom's sporting and technical supremo, Richard Garlick.
He told the club's director that he no longer wanted to play football and was quitting the game.
Garlick attempted to persuade Anelka to stay but he left soon afterwards. It is not yet clear whether the player spoke to head coach Steve Clarke.
Anelka later confirmed Manasse's death while expressing his grief through his official Facebook page.
He wrote: 'It is with great sadness that I just learned the death of Mr Eric Manasse. Upset by the news of mourning which strikes his family and relatives, Eric will leave a great void in our lives.
'I can't find the words to express my immense sorrow, and I wanted to bring all my condolences to family Manasse after this tragic loss.'
West Brom issued a statement confirming that Anelka would not be part of the squad for the trip to Goodison Park tomorrow.

Main man: Anelka has spent fewer than 50 days at the Midlands club
It read: 'West Bromwich Albion can confirm that Nicolas Anelka will not be involved in Saturday's game at Everton.
'The club have excused the striker from duty on compassionate grounds.'
The former Real Madrid forward only linked up with Steve Clarke eight weeks ago after becoming available on a free transfer following a stint in Italy with Juventus.
He completed a full pre-season and had played in the opening match of the season against Southampton at the Hawthorns last Saturday.
The Saints had clearly earmarked Anelka as a dangerman. He played in a more withdrawn role and had minimal impact as West Brom struggled to break down the visitors' rearguard.
His frustration was clear to see but whether that had any part in his subsequent decision is unknown.
However, upon his return to the Black Country earlier this week, it was clear that something was amiss, starting a busy day with a turn for the worst for Clarke.
By mid-afternoon however, the Scot's mood had improved after Scott Sinclair agreed a season's loan with a view to a permanent deal from Manchester City.

It's not his agent or his brother, it's a close friend who used to be involved with agent & Brother in some way & would travel around with Anelka & them.

Its amazing. I thought the likes of Anelka and Vieri's combined transfer fees would never be bettered. Now Bale is going to beat them in one transfer.
