Apparently XenForo is one of the best out there.
Formed 10 years ago and no new members in the past week !It’s a private group but can invite. There’s over 100 members though,
I'm with Keni., The site is a little antiquated but still functions well with good functionality. It's probably worth putting together some options and then having a discussion / poll to see what the majority prefers.
I think I still prefer the forum format (maybe I'm just old).
FazakerleyI was instant banned 😀
SCM currently uses XenForo I think?I'm with Keni., The site is a little antiquated but still functions well with good functionality.
A quick look at the options mentioned (Discord and XenForo) and Discord doesn't look anything like a forum, more like Twitter ! XenForo is probably too expensive (£1,000 a year without extras or migration fees).
Ah yes it does (just noticed - bottom left of the page). So we are paying that much? I didn't think we raised that much last fund-raising.SCM currently uses XenForo I think?
I had the same concerns about discord. I've actually managed to make it look and feel a lot like this place.I'm with Keni., The site is a little antiquated but still functions well with good functionality.

Yeh i looked at that with my effort. Was playing more than anything else.I had the same concerns about discord. I've actually managed to make it look and feel a lot like this place.
Is there really a barrier to entry? If anything it could drive more users if that's what we wanted. You can make public and tag it accordingly. My concern with discord is the barrier to entry, i.e. that the core users on here, myself included will move over, but not everyone would, and the site already feels like a bit of a closed shop, for better and worse.
Perhaps that's being antiquated though, the average age of this place is half dead. Discord might give it an occasional half-term vibe, as the kids don't say.
Yes security bots are a must. They call them raids.I think discord could work with forum channels..
It a marmite solution.. You either love it or hate it .
You may attract kids to the site, Which is fine for all you groomers that post here anyway. [emoji6]. [emoji102][emoji490][emoji135][emoji3553][emoji2539]
To note any spamming can be a royal pain in the arse, if your site becomes popular
Though discord has got better managing this over the years .
Yes that's one thing some have suggested for now. Put the discord link as a redirect if the forum falls over.Exactly. Public is only public within discord.
But you won't get any traffic coming into discord from the rest of the internet e.g. if any fan google search 6CM, they won't find us. Unless you leave a webpage with a discord link on there, but even that you'd have to spend a bit on SEO to bump the site up to at least the first 2-3 pages of Google.
Also, there's no guarantee they will click to join your discord link. There are many who don't even have an account.
You would use social media to advertise it . Tiktok, Facebook etc etc..Yeah but where are you going to put the link ?
Even if you create a simple page with the same domain name (6CM) with the discord link on it, why would any new fan want to visit us, assuming he/she hasn't got a clue who we are in the first place ?
Unless maybe the page is littered with screenshots of memorable posts/discussions from the Vault as part of the marketing ploy. Not sure that'll work though.
