Does the discord group have a crypto signals thread ? If yes then count me in pls.
So no hack occurred?
For those of a mildly technical disposition a brief explaination.
Our forum is housed on a virtual server commercially hosted. It is a pretty simple affair (Dual CPU and 2GB Ram with 2 volumes of storage). The server OS is installed on the first volume and uses that for housekeeping (logs and backups). The application software (this forum) is installed on the second volume.
The first volume ran out of space and so the database that underpins the forum software stopped working as it was unable to operate. The database couldn't be restarted as it had no logging space nor temp space for the it to come online and so whilst the forum software could 'boot' it couldn't operate without the database.
Jono extended the primary volume to create additional space which allowed the database to start up (log/temp space available) but the forum couldn't operate as the loss of space when the problem occured had corrupted the search indexes. Jono kicked off a rebuild that fixed the indexes and so we are back up and running for now.
That's good news. Although someone must have been getting warnings that the database was reaching its limit?!So no hack occurred?
Look at the bottom left of the pagewhat forum software does it run on ?
Part of why we need a team of peopleThat's good news. Although someone must have been getting warnings that the database was reaching its limit?!
This is where I am at too. I have zero expertise in this stuff but if a financial contribution towards a long-term solution will help then please don't be afraid to ask. I'm sure others will feel the same way.I don't know enough about this stuff anymore, but us it worth considering a clean break. There must be a newer version of forums that is more plug and play where there is no need to think about databases, that's what a yearly sub pays for... maybe that's discord, maybe something else. Would mean dumping what's here, but might be better than someone giving up multiple hours, when I'm sure they'd rather do something else. Happy to throw money at the problem if that helps too.
Ha ha. What’s your FB ID?Where’s my invite you fucker!!!
5-1! Don’t diss the process!!that thread consisted of me pasting dad joke observations and dreamy laughing at them by the way. That’s it really

Ditto. Why not just post the link !?
I was instant banned 😀Fuck FB, Discord was where the real action was
There IS a god!I was instant banned 😀
My thinking is, if we can get a team together to re-baseline the server (more vols, better group admin/alerting etc), add security and upgrade to the latest version of software the maintenance will be minimal. However, if the group prefers to shift to Discord which is only $99/year then fine.
That’s good it wasn’t a hack just a disk space issue. Shite he had to rebuild indexes. Turn off the logs to fuck. For those of a mildly technical disposition a brief explaination.

Honestly, from my point of view, whatever is easier to do. I have no idea how long what you said takes, and if it would be needed to be done again in a few years. If it's hassle, I'd be for the easiest option. Might be worth putting it to a vote.
Yep I’m perma banned for some reason so I’m sure many will rejoice if we move to discord. There IS a god!
Has anyone considered migrating over to open source forums such as Flarum, Proboards or Forumotion ?
if you’re all looking for free and hassle-free solutions.
Otherwise Discord is a good alternative but it will limit new people coming in cos it won’t be on the www searches. Unless you create a simple 6CM webpage (with enough basic SEO) and post the discord link on it. But that means you’d still have to pay a minimal fee for the web hosting.

The last time we looked into this we considered a fully managed Xenforu service.I discussed with @6TimesaRed lastnight (this morning!!) and he was of same opinion, and he's the expert, that if we get the server tidied up and better segmented then it will be much easier to maintain including regular upgrading. Jono just doesn't have the time unfortunately
Its almost as if I never posted the invite above..It’s a private group but can invite. There’s over 100 members though,
Prob just running a super old outdated and unsupported version then.Apparently XenForo is one of the best out there.
