The Egyptian King

Without Mo, we beat some sides whom we should have beaten. I can only say we lost 3-1 in the critical Arsenal game without Trent , Mo and a few players which led to them clawing points back on us. Apart from Chelsea in the league, I don't remember beating anyone we shouldn't have in that small run during Afcon. But regardless, if you are looking at his post Injured results then why would you ignore the pre-injury results last season? it's kind of nonsensical.
It's not about the injury, it's about the amount of games. I'm wondering if this might turn into a trend. A sudden downturn in performance levels in the latter stages of the season.

We are going to be without mo either way. The very difficult problem is how to replace him at the right time without him getting in the way of that. For me, a much more trivial problem is "how can we replace him?"

Mo often is better 1st half of season compared latter half historically.

He defo could and should play less but since we seldom invest now days until we really have to then what can we do? I don’t buy this argument, a top young player won’t join us because we have mo, virgil playing 50 games min. They would get their fair share especially with the new longer shite CL version. We could afford to rest mid season to freshen up. So we will like a decent motor, run them into the ground to get fair value while witj decent dealership service fees and all.

That's all the more confusing why we haven't used Chiesa more at the end of matches.

I get that Chiesa supposedly isn't ready for starting or even 60 mins. Fine. He's got to be ready for 15-20 mins.

Our fitness team is apparently good. So what are they doing with him?

I’d be interested in seeing what happens to Mo’s firm and output by season when Ramadan hits.

I feel like that’s when he’s more likely to be injured, fatigued or lose form.

As impressive as he has been this season, I think Salah has blown his chances at the Ballon d'Or these past two weeks. Performances in highlight games matter a lot for the award. If Vini scores a hat trick in the CL semifinal or the winning goal in the CL final, he will move ahead of Salah.

Agreed. He' a ghost.

Raphina is the smart money for ballon d'or now. And Mo's got himself to blame

Ohhh no!! Mo's lost his chance at finally winning the ballon d'shit??? Wonder how he'll cope with the distress for the rest of his life. Fucking diddums. Fuck off.

I honestly think now that Mo has over played his hand with his contract.
The way he has played over the last couple of weeks makes me think I’d rather he left on a free than offering him a blockbuster contract that stops other transfers coming in and blows up our wage structure.
Yes he’s a legend. Yes he’s been good this season. Yes he’s been total shit for the most important games of the season.

The thing I find a little annoying with the Salah stats this year is the idea that somehow he's better than ever. He isn't.

When I go back in some years time and bore my kid with how actually Snoogy MC Snoogy isn't shit, and have a look at this Salah guy in primitive 2d, sure I'll show some of the passes from this season... but it'll mostly be him ruining fullbacks, running faster than he does now, changing direction faster, being magic far more.

But what the highlights won't show is the lowlights, and they are way way lower now, and at the end of last season. Get over it, you're not getting that Salah back, is what I was told. He's evolved. Yeah. He has. But you haven't got a clue if you think what he's evolved to is as big a problem to sort out as it used to be, especially when he isn't on form.

It used to be that it didn't matter whether Salah was on form, or he was off, his very existence and his immediate threat meant that you had to solve for him. He was doubled or even tripled constantly. Teams even took corners differently for a time, because we scored from the counters so much. So you fix his problem, and you create four others.

The focus this season has been on how others aren't chipping in and that's true, but Salah IS the problem when he's off now, and he's easy to solve for in this form, because there's nothing to solve. There isn't eviscerating pace, you can get tight to him, and at worst just foul him, you probably won't get called for it anyway. Maybe he will beat you occasionally like the old days. Maybe anyone will. It's not worth solving for. He was never that lethal in terms of chance creation, he was just getting chance after chance after chance and wearing you down with the threat of his pace.

When he's on, and has the ball where he wants it, he makes things happen more than anyone on our team. Before he made things happen when he wasn't anywhere near the ball. He made teams account for him. He made things happen when they shouldn't have. WE account for him more now. He makes our right side defensively weaker unless it's one of those five games a year he will cover back. We can't replace him, because maybe just maybe he will get the goal. And he does. Because WE play for him to get those chances more than anyone else. And when we play that way and he doesn't, it's a net negative. When our midfield is tired, it cheats right to cover for Salah and sometimes Trent. It doesn't cheat left to help Diaz, who stands out there isolated.

This is his final act here. He deserves another title, as does vvd. He's had to change around his being worse, and he's got better at some things. He's worse though. He just fucking is. It's not close.

He wants the league title and the parade way more than the Ballon d'Or.

Salah has played in 11 finals and "title matches" (per ESPN):

2 goals
1 assist

Both goals were penalties

I don't get it. He shows up in big games - his stats against Top 6 really speak for themselves. But he doesn't show up on big occasions. OR opponents also really step up against him on big occasions - but we show no plan B. We never switch which position he's in to make it hard for the opposition, we just let him get pocketed by the opposition.

That sounds like an excuse. Yeah he's being marked, just as much as he's being marked in a regular game in the Prem against one of the top sides.
0 goals from open play in 13 finals appearances is an abysmal record for someone of Salah's stature.
Wasn't Gerrard marked in all the finals he played in? Or Sadio?
The thing is, even if Sadio or Gerrard didn't score they at least played well. Salah just disappears.

It is true.

Thanks for all the trophies, now fuck off. As a rude man once said.
Yeh but its not at all like that is it? I mean you can't say that he hasnt been massively compensated, or not utterly adored by the fans while he was here. Your statement would suggest that we've taken him for all we can and given nothing back and just kicked him ou the door like a piece of trash. Its bullshit.

I had very many glasses of wine yesterday and I'm not sure exactly where I stood then, other than having a laugh at Brendan's 'thanks for the European cup, now fuck off Rafa'.

But in the cold light of day, I'm sure we have given him a reasonable offer. If he stays, great, but he is going to be on the decline. The offer probably reflects that.

That's quite a simplistic view though, isn't it?

We know well enough that there are plenty of games where scoring that 2nd or 3rd goal is key in killing off a game that otherwise felt like it could possibly go either way.

We probably spend way more time ahead in games than Villa or Newcastle, don't we? So Salah would have less opportunity to "change game state".

and you can argue that moving a 1-0 to a 2-0 also changes game state as you are more than one goal away from the opposition getting back in.
