Liverpool FC are set to offer Kolo Toure a new one-year deal but the veteran defender admits he has a big decision to make over his future.
The 33-year-old centre-back is out of contract this summer but the Reds have opened talks with his representative over an extension.
Boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to retain Toure’s services in the knowledge that his young squad would continue to benefit from the Ivorian’s wealth of experience.
However, Toure says he must decide whether to finish his career as a squad player at Anfield or move elsewhere in search of regular first-team football.
The former Arsenal defender, who joined the Reds on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2013, has been restricted to just 12 starts in all competitions so far this season.

“My agent is talking to the club so we will see in a few days,” Toure said.
“The club have to think and I have to think as well.
“It is a decision (whether to stay as a squad player or move for regular football) and that is why I need to think very hard and then take a decision and stick with it.
“It is very important to know what you are facing. Whether you are going to be playing or not. I need to do the right thing for me and my family.”

Hope he stays, he will have played in probably 20-25 games by the end of the season (11 starts and 6 subs on to date, all comps.) and at his age, at a top club, this is damn good and means he can play to his limit each game .. which was MoM against Blackburn. He's also supposed to be a fantastic person that helps and jokes with the other players and binds the squad. Keep.

I reckon if we're offering him another year, Wisdom will be sold.

Considering people said he's "not a very good footballer" and similar things, he's been a big success, in terms of what he's brought in experience and composure at times. He's had the odd few duff games, who hasn't? By and large though he's been a good pick up.

What ever happened to Papadopolous.....

...... and Cary Grant.

I dont understand this to be honest. He only plays the odd game when people are injured. Why pay him 30 or 40k a week for that?
Bring back Ilori or Coates or bring through one of the kids to be 4th choice centre back.

Thing is though, that odd game could end up being a crucial one, & I don't want our CB to be inexperienced in a crucial match.

I do want us to bring younger players through, but for that you need a run of games imo, not the odd game deputising, & I think that's even more so in the defensive positions.

Coates can't even get a game ahead of Wes Brown or John O'fucking Shea

He's done

I hold my hands up, I got it very wrong with Kolo. I thought he'd come here to slouch about on the bench, but he's been a revelation in terms of personality. It's been more hit and miss in terms of performances, but what a great figure to have around the squad. I hope we give him the chance to try coaching after he retires. He'd be fantastic as an influence on the younger players.

I like Kolo and he's a decent enough backup, but I can't remember any barnstorming games he's had for us where he's saved out asses? I can remember his cockups that cost us big time last season, maybe it's just the bad ones that stick out and he has had these great performances.

The away game against Real for one. Without him at the back we could well have ended up severely embarrassed.

When he's good he's really good. I suspect if he had a long run in the side his form would be far more stable. As it is, I never quite know which Kolo is going to turn up when he's given a one-off game. That seems pretty understandable.

He's a good solid defender apart from the odd brain fart that seems to come along every 5 or 6 games.
Macca is correct though he's been terrific to have around the place and hasn't moaned like Agger seemed to do every single time he was dropped.

That's ca. 1.5m per year. He will play in 20-25 games this season. Isn't it worth it to have someone that reliable (see Blackburn) to come in when needed ? If we hadn't had someone of his quality would we already be out of the FAC and out of the running for 4th ? Maybes, however add on his experience and how that helps the younger players ; in training and the changing rooms before a match and at HT, and he is probably worth a lot more than 1.5M in terms of affecting results.

As regard Ilori - I'd bring him back defo (FO Coates). We will need 5 CBs next season if we continue with 3 at the back so : Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren, Toure, Ilori and Can doing triple duty (CB, RWB, CM) would be a good lineup.

Why does Bayern pay Reina 100 +K a week when he hardly play a game? Cause when you need him it is often crucial. We had to rely on Brad Jones when we needed better. If Kolo is on only 40 k a week it is good business for us. Having an experienced international to rely on when we need.

The other thing to take into account us how much he diminishes in playing ability - particularly with less game time.

I would HAVE hoped one of the younger players might be close to stepping up to be in contention for a first team start.
