Matip was not decent he was bloody excellent. Keita had to run around like a blue-arsed fly covering the Invisible Ox. and did it well.

Yup, Matip was excellent. VVD obviously looked rusty which is to be expected, so hopefully Matip can stay fit for 10 games and cover for him with his experience.
‘Keita, I’d rather see Elliot used together with Fabinho and Thiago/Hendo than see him play at the moment. Really ordinary with none of the confidence he showed when he first signed for us.
We only need him to do that when Hendo can't play tbf

Spot on! He was excellent and he and VVD made us look like 2019/20 LFC in that it never really looked like Norwich would score (they rarely got close to our box). Their positional play, their awareness and their physical strength ensures that the opposition struggle to retain possession anywhere in our half.
Here's the added bonus of having an excellent CB pairing.....................I'm sure we can all remember that United team with Ferdinand/Vidic at the back and the Chelsea team with Terry/Carvalho......both those pairings regularly dominated forwards they played against. I'm sure we all remember games that United or Chelsea would be winning 1-0 near full time but looking comfortable because of their defence............but once in a while somehow a team would fashion a chance to equalise out of nowhere but squander the chance with a dreadful finish (and we'd all be like "how the fuck did he miss that?"). The reason forwards miss more easy chances against the top defences is that they are starved of the ball for so long; and they've haven't had a sniff of a chance all game; and the importance of the moment added to their previous lack of attempts (leading to 90 minutes of frustration) leads to a lack of composure and a poor finish.
Please god Matip/VVD stay fit and we'll see it again; chances missed against us that last season would have been taken.
On a separate not about Matip, he needs to be protected, maximum one game a week. Maybe if the Champions League draw is relatively kind to us Klopp can rotate VVD/Matip for league games and Konate/Gomez for CL games.
