Managers Slot into new surroundings

Two of the most intriguing new managers come face to face at Portman Road. Kieran McKenna was linked with every decent job under The Lying Rag before signing a new deal with Ipswich, while Arne Slot was given the task of replacing Jürgen Klopp in the Liverpool dugout. It’s the promised land for both coaches and they know the Premier League is a huge step up from the Championship and Eredivisie respectively. McKenna will not want to sacrifice the style which has brought Ipswich two promotions in as many seasons, but he will be pragmatic enough to know it cannot work the same way in the Premier League. Whether he can get the balance right will be vital. Slot, with no new signings, has what Klopp left behind, which is a very good team that came third last season. The Dutchman made his own imprint on the side over pre-season but victories on tour mean very little. WU

Just saw a headline that said Ed Sheeran now owns a stake in Ipswich. Pin that to the dressing room wall as motivation to batter them.

The fear is, footballers are probably the sort of people who like Ed Sheeran.
We don’t want to give Van Den Berg even more reason to be whining about leaving.

Key quotes from Arne's pre Ipswich game presser:

Arne Slot: “Excited of course. This is what we’ve worked for in the last few weeks.”

Arne Slot on transfers this summer: "Our squad is really strong &it is not so easy to find players who can help us. Zubimendi was one of them to be fair but he decided not to come. We go forward with the ones we have - we are in a good place. Richard is trying to strengthen the squad."

Arne Slot: “We lost Thiago, Matip and Adrian but the rest of the squad stayed together. Jurgen left the team in a good place.”

Arne Slot on contracts of Trent, Van Dijk & Salah: "This isn't the place to talk about contracts but I can assure you they are in the squad tomorrow"

Arne Slot asked on what excites him most: "As a manager, wherever you are, you try to do the same thing. Fortunately for me & my playing style, the players already knew. That gives me & my staff a lot of energy. The players are really buying into it."

Arne Slot on players adaptation: "How far are we? We are not changing everything, most things were really good. Many things have stayed the same, we are ready for the game tomorrow. There are a lot of things to have improve to get to where we want to get to."

Arne Slot: "If I am here for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7years I will always give the same answer, there are always things to improve."

Arne Slot on Trent best position: "Trent is known for playing at right-back all his life but as a youngster he was in midfield. Modern full-back goes into midfield. He is capable of playing both positions really good and it's up to me to decide where is best for the team"

Arne Slot questioned if Liverpool are weaker by not buying any new players this summer: “If you don’t strengthen, you become weaker? I don’t understand that. It’s not always true that if you bring in new players a team becomes stronger.”

Arne Slot: "Me and Richard are trying to strengthen squad and if we think we find someone then we bring them in. Unfortunately we found one and he didn't want to come"

Arne Slot asked on Luis Diaz: "Is there any player they don't talk about? Luis Diaz's future is with us. I like a lot of what I've seen. He has had a big impact."

Arne Slot confirms EVERYONE is fit and available for the weekend

Summary. Everyone is for and we will sign someone if we can get them and they’re good enough.

I actually don't mind Ed Sheeran but for this weekend he's still a baby faced, ginger, baggy trouser wearing, tattooed cunt.

Not sure why some are cautious about this one. They’ll be up for it for about five minutes. We will
Keep hold of the ball for the other 85 plus minutes. 0-3

Slot's a real team player. That was a masterful VVD-level defense of each player and Mr. Hughes.

That's one striking similarity with Klopp.

Saw an interview with Kieran Mckenna where it was mentioned that under him Ipswich has never lost two games back-to-back, but now he faces Liverpool and City.

Mckenna seems to play quite similarly to Arsenal?

Hopefully a win as anything less will really kill the optimistic pre season post Klopp mood.

I don’t understand anyone hating Ed Sheran unless it’s pure bitterness and jealousy. Even if you don’t like his music, he’s an incredibly talented humble guy.

Salah as my FF captain of course!

Now that I know what you think of him, I hate him even more!!!

Hope Darwin leathers 1 in the VIP box and it hits him straight in his mush as he goes to sip his coffee.

Darwin could do something like that. When he’s taking a penalty.

Ed Sheeran is everything that's wrong with modern day commercial music. Yes he might be talented, but he plays music for middle aged women when he's not occasionally chumming up with the latest hip artists or producers to maximise teen adulation and commercial appeal. He's sickening, like fucking Coldplay. I bet Pat loves those sellout cunts too.

You really do hate so much of the world. Fuck living life with such bitterness towards successful artists that bring joy to millions. Cool story hating on the world.

I quite enjoyed Ed's appearance last night when I was rocking out at the Eras Tour. Said it to a few people but controvertially the noise and atmosphere of 92,000 girls when Ed Sheeran popped up (and about 80% of the songs) was louder than any goal celebration i've experienced at Anfield.

I think we might need to think about swapping the aging Kop for teenage girls if we want to rediscover the Anfield roar.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! I attend loads of concerts and love so many artists. I think Coldplay and Ed can take it.

Feeling anxious about the season more than excited. We've been sharp but I'm not convinced Slot will break teams down that easily. That's why Klopp was so gung ho.

I expect a few struggles and to be out of the title before Xmas like the bad old days. If we miss UCL footie it'll be a real battle to get on top again, or sign anyone!

Id go Robbo (Tsimikas needs to go), Quansah, Gravenberch and Szobo. Elliott, Darwin, Curtis impact subs. I'm not convinced by Gakpo having any impact from his preseason form!

Don't know about Ipswich except they're on the up and that terrible singer follows them. Tractor boys is a quality nickname though.

Gonna have to disagree with Coldplay, mate. Some classic songs and a genuinely great live act.

Not saying they're in the pantheon of all time greats but definitely better than often given credit for.
