I think it’s time to give Elliott a start, for two reasons:

1. He is our most incisive lock-picker against a low block. I think other than Mo he is the most likely player on the pitch who can create an unmissable chance for Nunez.

2. He had two superb substitute apperances in a row, producing actual game-winning contributions. If that is not rewarded with a start, what’s the point in having players compete for a spot?

Yes I have to agree so I'll change my team since Szobo's energy and tracking back may not be as needed in this game (minor run-out vs PSV and fully fit for Bournemouth where Szobo's qualities will be sorely needed).

Trent ------- Konate -------- Virgil ------ Robbo

------------------------ Gravy
---------------------------------- Macca
----------------- Elliott

Salah ----------------- Nunez ------------- Gakpo

Our lack of a decent and available striker worries me, honestly.
It's like Jota pops up now and again just to tease us by showing how much better we could be with a competent striker up front.
It's the missing piece imo.
I don't think it's sustainable to rely on creating 30 chances every game in order to get 1 goal.

So if we're not getting a striker in Jan, winning anything this season will be a lot harder than it could have been.

Interesting so I thought I'd check on a few things regarding the bolded sentence :

PL Only
Goals (50, best in the PL) per match : 2.38 (City 44, Arsenal 43)
Shots (376, 2nd most) pm : 17.9. (City 380, Arsenal 308)
Shots on target pm (best in the PL) : 6.95 (City 6.43, Arsenal 5.33)
Accuracy : 39% (which is very good actually - far better than I thought) !
Hit woodwork : 13 (3rd most) (Chelsea 15 Bournemouth 14 )
Big Chances created (69) : 3.295 per match (Arsenal 62, City 53)
Clean Sheets : 9 the most in the PL (Arsenal 7, City 5)
Goals Conceded (best in the PL) : 20 (Arsenal 21, Forest 22)

I think we're doing OK TBH 😉

The stats do look good, but I wouldn't rely too much on that.
The reality is we've been having trouble scoring lately.

Lille are distinctly worse than all of them.
We took our foot off the gas completely after we scored.
If we had our foot on the gas against Brentford and we might have scored before the 90th minute.
My point isn't that we don't create chances, it's that we don't score those chances.

We score more than most and are 7/7 in the CL, have won more games than anyone else in the league and still in both domestic cups.

The facts show we score more than anyone else and would have found a way had Harvey not scored when he did.

Why didn't find a way to score against spurs?
Or Forest before Jota came on?

We spend 45-60mins passing it around the back like every game, it's clearly a plan set out...to tire, maybe bore the opposition to death.

Sometimes you just have to credit them, Forest have the 3rd best defence in the league....they barely concede goals at home. Last 25mins we had enough chances to win 4 games, Murillo and Sels performed heroics, it is what it is.

Spurs was the exception clearly and it’s only half time.

Forrest were joint second and we battered them before and after the goal.

Come back to me if we stumble for 10 games.

I feel like this kind of argument happened last year as well as the season progressed. A few said we fell of because we weren't scoring enough; to be countered with "we're creating loads and we've scored loads. Its the defence thats the issue!".

37 shots is great. I'd say less than a 5th of them were actually decent chances.

We're not clinical. We fling fucking everything at goal and then we score 1 or 2. Look at the forest game. We battered them but only had 1 goal. They had 3 chances and scored 1 goal.

Anyone who says we're clinical enough (for me) is deluded. We need a 9.

Salah conversion rate of 16.7%
Nunez 16%
Diaz 12%
Gakpo 16%
Jota 17%

Haaland has 21%
Wood has 30%
Jackson 15.3%
Isak 25%

That's why I was annoyed at Salah last game.

I wanted us to practice being lethal, i.e. making the best of every attacking opportunity, collectively.

2 points.

1st Harvey. Was loving his play, positioning, decision making, weight of pass. Was his perfect pass for Diaz that created the sending off. But then defensively he really let himself down. He made a poor mistake which led to an opportunity for Lille, and also tried and failed to let the ball run out under pressure in our box, which led to a great chance for them.

I think this is why Slot doesn't fancy him.
It can be improved though.

2nd, we had better decision making by our front 3, esp Salah earlier in the season. I think we were more clinical then and less nnow. Hence the ok/good stats but its not what we are seeing. We need to be smarter in and around the box. And yes a great finisher wouldn't go amiss either!

Elliott deserving of Liverpool start

Harvey Elliott impressed as a second-half substitute against Lille, and in the interview that followed his match-winning Champions League performance. The 21-year-old emphatically rejected rumours of a January exit from his beloved Liverpool while admitting “it would be silly” to demand more playing time from Arne Slot with the team flying at the top of the Premier League and Champions League. It is anything but silly to state his case for a first league start of the season against Ipswich. Slot rested several defenders against Lille and planned to withdraw both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai at half-time as he manages minutes amid Liverpool’s pursuit of four trophies. Instead, only Gravenberch exited at the interval due to the injury to Curtis Jones. Elliott, who has started only two cup games this season after missing over two months with a broken foot, should get the opportunities he craves as a result of Slot’s rotation. The attacking midfielder brought much-needed energy and creativity to Liverpool’s display. A starting role against Ipswich could be the reward. Andy Hunter

Is there any chance this gets postponed tomorrow due to the weather?

If it's anything like it has been this morning then every chance, no worse than when we were meant to play Everton.

Yes but who ?

There’s no one in the world now that truly excites me. Except maybe Isak but he’s out of reach.

Looks like the worst of the storm has already happened. I've been monitoring trains as I have an early train up to Liverpool booked for tomorrow so hoping that runs vs. having to slog it up in my car.

Is Isak actually that good though? The 2 games I watched, he was invisible against Bournemouth, he wasn't doing much against Spurs but got a goal just because Dagusin is so shit.

Yeah i'm still not entirely sold on him.

But thats the state of the game now. Strikers have become an endangered species and Isak's considered world class now.

Back in the day, when the Batistutas, R9, Suarez, Svenchenkos, Henrys, Rooneys, etc were playing....he'd just be a 2nd tier striker at best.
