Man United thoughts

I just watched the post match player interviews and I swear Evra just pronounced 'Wellbeck' as 'WellBlack'. I kid you not.

Wisdom was excellant for the most part and didn't get beaten anywhere near as much as Glen did.
Downing had a good 2nd half and lookeed for the ball alot and played some good passes.
Sturridge added pace and direction but blew his chance to be a hero (he really should have hit the target)
Suarez was excellant in the deeper role and was completely isolated first half (shocked people thought he played bad)
Allen was woeful from start to finish
Lucas was barely better
Reina was excellant.
Vudic was offside for their 2nd.

Overall glad we fought back as at 2-0 it easily could have become 4/5.

Erm....... A top 8 club. We haven't been a top club for several years now.
Hence the reason why no top managers were interested in taking us on. A gamble on a young up-and-coming manager is about as good as it is going to be forever, unless BR succeeds and returns us towards the top.

Several years? We were 2nd with a massive point total and only two defeats all season less than four seasons ago. We were in European cup finals 7 and 5 years ago. We are disappearing up our own arses.

Wouldn't go that far. Gerrard and Surridge looked our best hope of getting back into the game imo.
Sturridge? Starting eleven? 😉

Gerrard was indeed probably better on the day, although he was guilty of making a lot of mistakes too, particularly in the first half.

Agreed, DB. Allen was awful. I can't wait to see how Ryan's going to defend his honour this week.

We should never ever try and play Lucas and Allen in the same team
Sturridge looks very promising
Downing has mislaid his testicles again
We miss an on-form Enrique
Gerarrd needs to get forward more
We are shit at defending set-pieces - why?

This is probably a rhetorical question but oh well.....Half of the battle is having a commanding goalkeeper, as a defender you want the 'keeper to gather every ball within at least 6-8 yards. Unfortunately, for all his great qualities and he had an impressive game today, this is Reina's biggest downfall as nearly every cross that's delivered into the box your heart's in your mouth. That will inevitably seep into the defenders mind-set. The other half is that we have players with poor concentration and with what seems a lack of understanding the basic principles of defending. The number one rule when defending a set-piece is to remain goal-side whilst forming some sort of line as a unit. The problem with us is that we suddenly break into individual parts running back towards our own goal, then we look at each other when it goes in. If we hold a high line we should let the opposition run into that space between line and goalkeeper and perhaps catch them offside or actually position ourselves so we're not running towards our goal. Johnson's pace can save him when he's chasing a player bearing down on our goal but it's a different story in a set-piece situation when it requires a defensive mentality and sound positioning, but he's not the only one guilty of it, it'll be someone else next week.

I really thought he was going to set out with an attacking policy - we were terrible for most of that game, there was nothing in us. What makes me feel even worse is that thought I carry in my head regarding Man United - they really don't have that much talent in that team IMO, but they keep fucking winning - and I can only put it down to the manager having this complete understanding of how to win the league. Fuck them !!! - was really upset, as for BR learning - learn what ? did not SG say in the first meeting this season that - the game we played against them was one where it was suppose to be easy and we played better than anytime in the past (in terms of playing them - not necessarily beating them), so why did BR get cold feet and decide to change what would have been his normal approach ? - bad joke.

Who'd have thought that playing 2 strikers would cause the opposition more problems than playing 1? Wow, revolutionary stuff here.
Sturridge and Suarez up front from now on please.
Oh and don't play Lucas and Allen together, it's got to be one of the worst central midfields in Europe.

Allen is shit
Downing is shit
Wisdom is shit
Sterling is a bit shit
Borini is shit

Those are my thoughts.

Im just annoyed today mate.
I said straight away play Shelvey and Sturridge, and play Carragh and Agger at LB.
And our worst 3 players were Allen, Wisdom and Downing.
It didnt need to be so shit today.
Im angry at Mr Rodgers today.
We should have got a point but we started with a pissweak team.

Its hard to argue with hindsight, but the only change i would have made in the intial line up was hendo in for allen. Sturridge i thought should be an impact sub, same as shelvey.

Carra against those pacey players, no thanks.

Sturridge isnt fit yet, as BR pointed out. The last thing we need is to use him wrongley and get him injured.
He'll probably start against Norwich and play 65-70 mins.

Hendo should have started a head of Allen based on form, although I thought Allen improved greatly (along with most of the team) in the 2nd half.

Sterling needs a rest. 35 odd games in january is to much. Hopefully we'll rotate a bit now upfront and get the best out of everyone.

We miss Enrique.

Excluding that ONE season which was clearly not the norm......... It was the exception. One season in about 20 years.
Accept it Sean, we are not what we were. We are mid table mediocrity that might sneak into Europe, even though we all secretly hope for a top 4 place. Until we accept this, these boards will be full of over-reaction and delirious arm-waving when we should expect what we got today............
Poor half, good half, lost by the odd goal, could have drew but 8 times out of ten we would lose this game. As would most sides in the league.

Exactly. Fickle isn't the word. People judge players on a game to game basis. It's mental. Gerrard's been finished all season yet a couple of decent performances and he was back. I bet exactly the same thing was being said during the first and second halves today. Allen was boss then shit. Shelvey was the messiah then shit. Downing should have been shot but now there's 'hope'. Borini is a failure without hardly playing. We're improving as a team and we're going backwards. I'd rather wait and take a summary view at the end of the season. It tells me one thing. Although most of us would like to think we know much better, because were boss on FIFA 13 or footy manager or perhaps we watch a bit of Futbol Mundial, than those who are in the game we really haven't got the first clue.

This.

The lack of patience is staggering.

Ryan you know I agree with you over rodgers getting stick......but we know whats coming next, so i'm just going to make myself comfortable

How far into Kenny's stint as manager were you calling for his head?

I'm not sure if it was after him spending 100M+ on useless cunts, the neverending run of woeful results, or the antiquted eye-bleeding football we were playing.

Or maybe the combo of all three.

I'm not averse to giving Rodgers or anyone stick when it's merited - and certainly a lot of questions/flak could be thrown his way, but I do feel he's got many things going for him and I'm prepared to give him the time to prove that.

I didn't feel that way under Dalglish. We were going backwards.

So because you felt we were going backwards it was ok for you to stick the boot in but if others now feel the same about Rodgers they lack patience?

Right you are.
