Man United thoughts

Without all the misogyny, it's been the case for a while now that we often play better when we feel we have nothing to lose. We relax when we feel we've lost anyway. It's a losers trait.

This is the worst midfield we've had since I've been watching us. I know lots of people are expecting Lucas to get back to that one six week period he had in his career when he wasn't shit but I'm not as hopeful.

Why a pop at Lucas when Allen was fucking awful? Oh yeah, because you have to.

The Lucas era has also largely been the Liverpool being shit era. Correlation is not causation, but it does drain the confidence that somehow he's part of a good spine.

Our midfield, when it was brilliant, had three players with very defined positions. What lucas has going for him is that at least he has a defined role. I've no idea how some of our midfielders make up a good formula, in any combination. They don't have any remarkable identity as players.

They were both shit, I said earlier in the thread, the midfield is shit... but people are giving Lucas an excuse by saying he's going to take a while to get back to the heady heights of being an average player again. I doubt it.

We haven't beaten anyone in the top 10 this season, it's not just Lucas. It's him Allen and Henderson. All crap.

Wisdom - a little harsh on him to make him solely responsible for the goal. The problem was that both he and Downing had pinched in to defend the box and no one picked up Evra. I think Downing has to be equally to blame. Wisdom's first responsibility was Kagawa. Additionally, young defenders are taught not to get too much space between each other. To stay compact. Wisdom was doing that.

Allen was so much better in the second half. I think because attacking them with Sturridge and Suarez forced them to defend a little and gave us some time and space in midfield. I am disappointed with Allen's first touch under pressure, but given time he usually makes the right pass. So, if Allen is going to play then we need to set up in a way that he will have some time and space. Otherwise, he is a waste and wasteful.

Suarez played well in the second half when he was not forced to do it all by himself. He does not need a rest. He needs help. Hopefully, Borini and Sturridge are just we he needs.

ah there's no real point analysing this too much is there , the simple fact is that we're an average team and our league position reflects this correctly .Results and performances like this are sadly to be expected .

The aim is to improve , whether or not we can do that with this group of players remains to be seen .

I'm not giving him an excuse the whole team were shite first half. I'm not singling a player though am I because I'm not vainly trying to prove a consistently unproven point. If he's average in your mind so be it but average is better than shite which we have plenty of. Wisdom, Allen, Gerrard, Downing, Sterling all played glaringly worse first half. Wisdom should have closed the cross for the first goal but he was slow to react and Johnson and Agger fucked up for the second. Don't worry though Shelvey and Sterling will save us all.

I didn't say he's average. I said that when he's on top form and doing the best he possibly he can, then he's average.

Sterling looks dead on his feet and has lost his spark. Shame but not unexpected for an 18 year old in his first season in the Premier League.

I only had one thought in my mind before, during and after the game.
Check my signature for a clue.

One thing is for fucking certain, we wont progress or develop as a club if we dont let the manager get some time to implement his ideas and players. Chopping and changing again after this season will give us nothing.

Same goes for new players imho. We demand a quick fix but you very seldom get that.
Time and patience is required. We have a young squad and a young manager. We're nowhere near where we want be but there are some signs that the future could be pretty bright.

Someone said earlier in the season that it would be a pretty bumpy in terms of highs and lows. Thats very true, but hopefully we learn a fair bit from defeats like today.

What we really need to work on is our mentality though. We need to think as winners and show some balls.

Do you reckon either set of players felt like they'd been in a game after that first half? Did it seem to everyone else that United didn't really have to try to beat us?

I'd like to see the stats for area covered and all that. I'm probably wrong but it just didn't seem urgent or competitive.

Wisdom really annoyed me turning his back on that cross
Why the fuck was Skrtel in the wall for their second?
Whilst Allen may be great in a side dominating possession out of possession he is very weak

Suarez and Sturridge looked like they might play well together

We had both Skrtel and Agger in the wall at many freekicks. I do not know why.

Shelvey will fill that hole, obviously

I don't really understand your point. I haven't mentioned Shelvey, I was responding to the Lucas is off the pace myth, as if he's ever been on it bar a short run last season. If you love him then great. There's probably a thread about him being MoTM on RAWK.

I never said you did. And I never said I love him or he's brilliant either he's nowhere as shite as you make him out to be though and he's a much better than average player. Shelvey is the next saviour though, everyone says so - it must be true. Wonder why he can't game in front of 'shite' like Lucas, Allen and Henderson though? Weird.....

Tbf sunny no one has been banging he shelvey drum recently because he's been playing shit. At the minute its more hendo that's getting the love

I dunno. I reckon Shelvey has the attributes to be a top player but he's a mentalist and needs coaching to be more controlled and refined, less spontaneous and erratic. The other three have the opposite problem. They're all plodders.

Which is how I feel. He needs to sort his form out and learn to impress again

I don't think it was unlucky that Vidic's goal was given. You'd need several implants installing in player's bodies to have made that call.

Exactly. Fickle isn't the word. People judge players on a game to game basis. It's mental. Gerrard's been finished all season yet a couple of decent performances and he was back. I bet exactly the same thing was being said during the first and second halves today. Allen was boss then shit. Shelvey was the messiah then shit. Downing should have been shot but now there's 'hope'. Borini is a failure without hardly playing. We're improving as a team and we're going backwards. I'd rather wait and take a summary view at the end of the season. It tells me one thing. Although most of us would like to think we know much better, because were boss on FIFA 13 or footy manager or perhaps we watch a bit of Futbol Mundial, than those who are in the game we really haven't got the first clue.

No one would have made that call. Besides, it balances out the pen they should have had
