Lucas

He's still better than anybody we have there. Without slagging off other players (it's not their fault we paid money for them) he's a better reader of the game, at snuffing out danger and passing under pressure than Allen.

Yep. And Henderson is a more attacking player. He should be working on arriving in the penalty area more, not patrolling outside ours. Have they really worked so hard to improve him only to misuse him like this?

That would be crazy, surely he didnt he think he had a chance at vice captain.

Well he's probably entitled, as a senior pro, to a quiet word of explanation. Okay, not entitled, but it would be good man management to tell him why the new player in was getting it. The deterioration of the Rodgers-Lucas relationship has been really weird: he started off being lauded as his major disciple by the new manager, but then gradually got treated more and more as an outsider. Okay, so he's had some injuries, and any manager is justified in changing his attitude in terms of playing him after that, but to alienate Lucas - one of the most mild-mannered, easy-going, decent lads at the club - is really quite a perverse achievement.

Carra was talking about the need for a DM on sky yesterday. When asked about who he'd enjoyed playing with at Liverpool he said he'd been very lucky to have hamann and then masch in front of the defence, but when asked about Lucas he just a pulled a face.

He's fucking shite

Carra's a fucking amateur, he knows nothing about football. He needs to spend some time with an expert like ryan who knows everything there is to know about football, so he can be educated into what a fucking great player lucas is. Mascherano and Hamman as DM's! Pah, what a chancer.

The thing that's bothered me about Lucas from day 1 is that he struggles to impose himself on the game and take control. It really showed up in his first few seasons. He often went through games pretty anonymously and just came across as being very weak and timid. It didn't help that he was playing alongside the likes of Gerrard, Alonso and Masher as that's who he was being (unfairly) compared to but there is also a good argument for saying that it should've.

The whole "does the things most fans don't see or appreciate" doesn't wash for me. There is a long list of players who are not all about stepovers, doing salmon dives in front of shots or whatever else makes highlight reels who have achieved fairly ubiquitous acclaim. The problem is that most can see what Lucas does or is trying to do but he's not good enough to be on that list that's been a consistent problem for us.

Lucas has his qualities and to his credit, he's stuck in there, worked hard and found himself as a player in a couple of seasons for periods despite some pretty relentless criticism but he's never managed to reach the top level and stay there.

Decent guy by all accounts but I think both parties would've benefited from a parting of ways years ago.

I can't wait to see the queue of clubs willing to pay big money for him.

I'd say it was the tamest falling out ever.

Not sure you should gloat about that when you presumably rejected the best disinterested indication of a decent player: up to his injuries he was always in or around the Brazil squad.

Rodgers is our manager and as long as he is that Lucas won't get even a fair chance. The only reason he played some games last season was because Rodgers had to do something to save his job. He had ran out of other ideas so in a last desperate, very desperate move he played Lucas in his right position as a defensive midfielder.

Yes he was part of the worst performing Brazil squad ever at the Copa America

And we know Brazil only pick players because they're good.... There's no agent shenanigans going on to get players into the squad

He is mild mannered, he certainly comes across that way. I'm not sure his recent outbursts can be fully attributed to the manager though, Lucas seems to have lost his head a bit, what with his Twitter kick offs, etc.

Rodgers has said a few good things about Lucas, but for me actions speak louder than words and he has never picked Lucas consistently in any of his squads. I dont think he was ever convinced Lucas can be relied upon week in week out....no manager in his right mind would.

So i can really understand if Rodgers asked him to do one before the transfer window closes. Some posters on here would be happy to jump on every little thing and twist everything he does as an example of his failure to be a good manager....its truly laughable...

If our manager tell a player like Lucas to do one, a player that always work his socks off, then the manager can do one and get the fuck out of this club. If the things Agger said about Rodgers not talking to him for months and then the same manager falls out with Lucas then IMO the manager have a big attitude problem.

Lucas saving managers their jobs.
Hahaha.

We played our best football last season when Lucas played as a DM. We played shit without Lucas as a DM. So yes, Lucas most probably saved Rodgers arse. You do know that Lucas is the player in the PL that made the most tackles since 2007. He is also an excellent leader on and off the pitch.

Maybe that's why we've had clubs falling over themselves to bid for him in that time.
I don't mind Lucas he's a solid dm but people seem to go far overboard in their praise of him.
It's bordering on mental actually.
He's not as bad as some people make out and he's not even close to being as good as some others make out.

We did play our best football last season with him as DM

And we finished 6th

Speaks Volumes

Hey Arn do you have a pair of absolutely timeless pink shorts? The type of thing that JFK would have worn on a yachting trip.

8 mill. Also says if he decides to stay and fight for his place then he'll do that.
I'm guessing he'll stay cause no club will be interested.

Weren't Inter sniffing around? Maybe with the Shakira sale they'll put a bid in for Lucas?
