Is anyone else watching this on the channel with an orange logo in the top right corner? Think it my be dutch?

The commentator has said voro-neen all throughout. It's very, very annoying.

until aquaman is fit i'd much rather we went 442 with gerrard in the middle.

Unless we get Silva.

I would like to see some 4-3-3 with Gerrard and Lucs/Aqualani ahead of Masher

Kelly's looked the best of the three teens since he came on. I guess RB is an easier position than CB though.

I was just thinking the same thing... then I thought that its probably more that AM have backed off their attacks a fair bit in the second half... none of them look AS bad as they did in the first half!

True and he's also better than them.

I think Lucas and Mascher have protected them better in the second half, which is why we saw less of Lucas in attack.

The big difference between Kelly and the others was his body language - he just looked more confident and aggressive. Again, though, that's easier to do on the flank.

We always look shite in pre season, it would have bee good to have had a moe ositive exciting transfer season but hopefully the players arent sulking like i am.

Only saw the last fifteen minutes and we showed some good bits of pace.

Well, not exactly the ideal preparation for our first league game of the season. We lost; our best defender (and last fit, experienced CB) was injured; and his replacements both looked desperately out of their depth.

We have to either get Carra/Agger/Skrtel fit by next weekend and/or sign someone experienced to give us more cover. Tbph, I'd happily pay Stuttgart a couple of million to bring Sami back on a season's loan.

I don't think Stuttgart could accept the offer as he doesn't play for them... 😉

It was a much better performance in the 2nd half, and we would have won this match had we had our first choice CBs.
We desperatly need them fit for next week. Both Agger and Skrtel can't be far away from full fitness, and hopefully Carra was only taken off as a precaution.

Kelly was head and shoulders above both San Jose and Ayala. He should be our back up right back this year, and then hopefully gain some experience.

Carragher injury concern for Pool
Saturday, 8 August 2009 17:10

Liverpool's patchy pre-season form continued with another defeat, despite a late flurry and a rare Lucas Leiva strike.

Atletico Madrid were two ahead at the break and deserved their win, as Liverpool's injury worries worsened.

Their preparations for the new season were not helped by the sight of Jamie Carragher limping out of this sell-out friendly.
Anfield's most experienced defender lasted just 12 minutes against the Spanish club as he suffered an ankle injury.

A touchline conversation with club doctor Mark Waller was followed by the 31 year-old disappearing down the tunnel for treatment.

Considering boss Rafael Benitez's injury crisis in defence, losing the vice-captain and defensive leader was the last thing he wanted.

Initial diagnosis was a 'turned' ankle, and his departure was precautionary. Certainly in the current situation, his recovery for next week will be a priority as he will be needed at Tottenham for the Premier League opener next weekend.

Benitez has seen Sami Hyypia depart, while Martin Skrtel (hamstring) and Daniel Agger (back) are major doubts for the trip to White Hart Lane.

We should take note of Atletico's play today, their passing and movement is fantastic at times, they played very well in the champions league last season at Anfield as well, lets just hope we don't come up against many teams like that this season

I wonder if Benitez will step up the centre back hunt this week, I guess our bid for Distin will be improved. And maybe for Turner aswell.

With a full 1st team and in a competitive match we would have won - we absolutely dominated possession.

Rafael Benitez is confident Jamie Carragher will be fit for next Sunday's Barclays Premier League opener with Spurs.
The Reds defender limped off after just 15 minutes of the pre-season clash with Atletico Madrid, but the boss revealed his decision to replace his vice-captain was purely precautionary.

"He's okay," Benitez told his post-match press conference.

"He twisted his ankle and it was just a precaution to bring him off because we have had problems with the other centre backs and we wanted to protect him."

Asked if it was a concern with Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger already out injured, Benitez added: "We will have to wait now, the three players are injured, but improving so I think they will be fit for the next game."

Good news if true.

It was a good work out, although Atletico didn't seem to know how to play a friendly. I do hope Kelly is trusted this season, I've no doubts about his potential. Well done to Lucas, too.

Well two CB's to come in (we can hardly count Carra's 12 mins), Aquilani injured and maybe another 1st teamer before the end of the transfer season ? Short of at least 3 maybe 4 first teamers. I think Riera may start on Sunday.
