Champions League Draw

It was decent but changed in the last 10yrs. I think we have lost 7 out of 8 with other being a draw but then I don’t trust my stats tonight.

So how does it work, exactly? How many teams, roughly, will qualify from this “group” of 9?

Automatically? 2 should qualify. Given the difficulty, wouldn’t surprise me if 3 of even 4 make it.

Madrid Bayer and us are certainties.

What are you on about !? It's one league.

Which is why just finishing in the Top 8 is good enough and will see us seeded for the last 16.

________

The top eight sides in the league will qualify automatically for the round of 16, while the teams finishing in 9th to 24th place will compete in a two-legged knock-out phase play-off to secure their path to the last 16 of the competition. Teams that finish 25th or lower will be eliminated, with no access to the UEFA Europa League.

What do you think I’m on about.

Of the 8 teams we face, how many will qualify? I think potentially 4 of us could given the difficulty of our games.

I understand how the qualification phases work out, I was responding hypothetically if we were in a “group” with the teams we were drawn too.

Arsenal: Paris Saint-Germain (H), Inter (A), Shakhtar Donetsk (H), Atalanta (A), Dinamo Zagreb (H), Sporting CP (A), Monaco (H), Girona (A)

Manchester City: Inter (H), PSG (A), Club Brugge (H), Juventus (A), Feyenoord (H), Sporting CP (A), Sparta Prague (H), Slovan Bratislava (A)

The only boon for us is sporting are quite good and they're both away to them

Teams from 1st to 8th are automatically qualified to the round of 16. Teams from 9th to 24th qualify for the knock out round.

In other words, you have to be pretty shit not to go through.

Unless we finished 9th and you can draw the team that finishes 10th or vice versa (which knowing our luck would be someone like PSG)

This is a ridiculous system. So our tally of points from 8 tough fixtures is measured against teams who have spawned a load of easy games. Villa and City have had great draws. Ours is as tough as we could possibly have got, all in all. Slot better be ready to play with the big boys.

Even more so when you have the likes of Celtic, who were 3rd seeded, get this kind of fixtures: Leipzig, Dortmund, Villa, Atalanta, Club Brugge, Young Boys, Dinamo Zagreb and Slovan Bratislava

Isn’t that the point of the 9th-24th placed teams get another go to qualify? To even out the odds of getting the initial 8 tough fixtures?
