Very very little wing play from us so far - everything going up the centre.
Thats coz we're playing with no 'wingers'.
cough Johnson cough Insua

We look so horribly out of shape that Im getting seriously worried. Missing 3 centre backs is of course the reason, and the goals conceeded wouldnt have happened otherwise.

I can see us letting in 4 goals in this game.

We desperatly need our first choice defenders back against Spurs.

We're still playing at friendly pace. This is our last game before the PL starts, and I'd like to see us go at it a lot more aggressively.

Torres looking good - but that dyed hair is so ... so ... chavish
and is Dirka Dirka's hair blonder than usual? It seems like a yellow fireball out there!

Benny's toes still twinkling.

Kuyt heads over ... should have hit the target he was totally unchallenged.

HT

Torres looks well of pace, at least his finishing is very preseasonish.
We should be 3-2 infront.

I don't think our attacking play is too bad: it's just that our best players, Gerrard and Torres, are both a bit short of sharpness. Kuyt and Yossi are playing well, as is Lucas. The big problem, obv, is CB, where we've got two inexperienced kids blinking like rabbits in the headlights. Their lack of confidence is flooding through the whole team and making us much too cautious in our build-up.

I'm not blaming either Ayala or San José btw - facing Aguero and Forlan in your first proper game at Anfield is definitely being thrown in at the deep end. But we can't go to White Hart Lane without more experience at CB - we'd be throwing points away.

Appart from the obvious negatives there are actually a few positives to take from this albeit trailing at the break.

Gerrard looks like he's getting back to his own dynamic self. Apart from a few dodgy corners he's looking hungrier than ever.

Torres has got pace to burn and looks fit, even though he still lacks 10 percent in front of goal.

Johnson looks exactly like what he will be; Premiership signing of the Season. *fingers crossed*

And last but not least Lucas looks like twice the player he was last year. He is certainly much more dynamic in his movements and vision.

Oh, whatever happens we desperately need to play one of Skrtl or Agger come Spurs as the young CBs are not exactly looking ready for this. (Maybe Ayala can do a decent job alongside Carra but still).

PS We'll score at least two in the second half. This scoreline are really flattering Altetico at the moment.

OK I missed the first 15 mins but :

Riera - 6 - one save of note but otherwise a spectator (watching or picking the ball out of the net having had no chance).
Insua - 6
Ayala - 4 - out of his depth and basic errors
San Jose - 4 - see above. It is only fair to say that two teenagers against Aguero & Forlan is killing us though.
Johnson - 7 - looks one of our best players
Masherano - 5 - not involved. Needs to get fit otherwise he is bypassed.
Lucas - 5 - anonymous, if he is playing in Xabi's position then he needs to get much more involved.
Benayoun - 7 - twinkle toes, they can't get hold of him but his final ball needs to be better
Kuyt - 5 - off the pace, early season Dirk.
Gerrard - 6.5 - not quite clicked either with Torres or by himself
Torres - 7 - he looks only a tad off the pace / sharpness. Looks very close. Has them worried every time he has the ball.

Playing your 1st eleven only the last friendly before season starts is mad.
I think I will never understand our manager.

i'll be amazed if Atletico don;t score more when they have possession because the young CBs wont cope with that movement

i wouldn't worry. we'll no doubt start with a new formation next week as well.

lucas and masch cannot be the two deep midfielders in our team. it will not work.

Lucas deserves better than a 5. Where's San José? And what is Riera doing in goal?

Ha ha - I need more than 15 mins at HT to get my coffee and write that ! I have added San Jose. I thought Riera is doing rather well don't you ? You know I am not a Lucas knocker but he has his chance and I want to see more positive play from him.
