Fowler v Suarez

I agree with you Spion.

We've been blessed with such phenomenal attacking talents in the last 30 years ...

Keegan, Toschak, Rush, Daglish, Barnes, Beardo, Aldo, God, Stan, Owen, Torres and Suarez ...

They've all been class ...

Toshack was Welsh not Jewish...😉

He's a striker? His passing range doesn't need to be "all that".

A bit Baros? Fucking hell Mark.

And? Because he's a striker doesn't mean he can't pass. Sturridge can pass.

His passing range may well be good, but he doesn't display it often because he would rather shoot.

A bit baros because he's head down and go for goal kind of character. Nowhere near similar in ability levels.

Obviously both are phenomenal talents and I'm overjoyed I've got to see both play for us.

Hmmm...I'm unconvinced by your reply!

I'm not even sure Suarez is a better all rounder.

Could he ever score like Fowler did against Brann Bergen ? Or the goal against Villa where with his back to goal 35 yards out, he turned Steve Staunton with one touch with his instep and finished from distance.

Fowler was outstanding. And more prolific than Suarez.

You can't pick out moments like that as both had them, could Fowler do what Suarez did against it'd in the lead up to Kuyts opener?

I agree with the idea that Fowler was the better finisher whereas Suarez's all round game has more to offer - but people are valuing these traits the same when their not.

Being able to score from almost any situation is a much better trait to have than link-up player, dribbling, holding it up, etc.

That said, Torres at his peak was better than both of them because he had the best qualities of Suarez and the best qualities of Fowler.

Not a chance, Torres was and never has been in the same league as Fowler as a finisher. THE END.

I remember Fowler as a finisher, he often needed to be provided passes from the likes of Barnes, Collymore and McManaman.
Suarez creates his own chances more often than not, but he mostly misses them as well.

Fowler was the better finisher, Suarez is a nightmare for the defenders.

That means fuck all though.

Defenders wouldn't want to face either.

Fowlers pace, vision and finishing would make him a nightmare

Suarez' tenacity, guile and technique would make it hellish too

I don't care what the opposition thinks, I care what our strikers do. And fowler puts it in the back of the net. Suarez takes shots from everywhere and the probably puts it in the back of the net

Tbh I wouldnt have picked Fowler in his prime ahead of Ronaldo, the fat one.

That's way off imo.

Loved Fowler, cracking finisher. But Ronaldo? Light years ahead as a more rounded player.

I'll always be a big Robbie fan, but I do feel he's often feted too much by us Liverpool fans. He wasn't a Ronaldo (who is up there with the very best ever for me).

Edit - misread your post Modo - I agree!

You've misread me.

I'm not saying he was as good a finisher, although he was wonderful at it, but that he combined the best qualities of Suarez and Fowler. That's a different thing all together.

I think a lot of people are letting their emotions get in the way of the truth here.
Suarez is fucking amazing.
A cunt.
But one of the best footballers we have ever had.

Agree. I lover Fowler, an absolute legend - God. But we need to be dispassionate. It's always tricky comparing footballers from different eras, but a reasonable way is to see how they compared against their peers. At his peak, Fowler was not amongst the elite in Europe and not even no.1 for England. Suarez, playing for a mediocre lfc side is scoring 30 goals a season and in the same bracket as the top 3 or 4 strikers in europe or the world.

Fowler could have played for most teams in Europe in his prime. And please, let's not use the ridiculous decision of not making him England's main man as some kind of barometer for his quality.

We know how good Suarez is. Yet we've not had a single offer for him yet from Europe's best clubs. Does that make him shite? Certainly not.

Fowler was an INCREDIBLE player. I don't give a shit who outside of Liverpool rated him or not. Facts and our own eyes are enough to show that. As is the case with Suarez.
So I don't think your comparison is 'reasonable' at all.

In Fowler's time you could reel off the best part of 100 strikers that were insanely good who would be world class in any era. The fact he wasn't in the top 10 or even 20 makes him no less of a God.

The point is, there are no more than 5 or 6 genuine world class strikers around today. Suarez playing 10 years ago wouldn't even be in the top 100.

Bollocks.

How can one of the best footballers we have ever had not even be as good as Zola?

I miss Fowler.

Owen, Torres and Suarez may come close to him in terms of talent, but none of them were half the man.
