I'm solely talking about the signings and the state of the squad when they left. £20M Downing is trying to be converted into a make-shift LB. £35M Andy Carroll is out on loan at West Ham. Jordan Henderson we were trying to offer to Fulham in a swap-deal. Getting rid of them will be hard enough, but worse more, the Americans aren't seemingly prepared to invest big again. It was a huge opportunity that was given to the wrong man, and it's cost the club big time.
Nobody's doubting the fact that clear mistakes were made. We're just going to have to agree to differ about whether mistakes which, by your own account, will probably be put right in "a couple of transfer windows" can accurately be said to have done "serious long-term damage".

True story. He's a really bright prospect, has only just turned 21 a few months back, and has incredibly impressive movement around the box. He'll need a few games, but he'll be an important player.
