Borini's shit

I agree our midfield is not too shabby now and has definately been upgraded bigstyle but it is not a midfield with loads of goals in it. Either BR is stupid for not strengthening our forward line or has been seriously let down by the board - I would like to think its the latter. I think we will be tough to beat this year but with all these stupid europa league games clogging up the fixture list and stretching the squad to the limit I cant see us managing to score enough to exceed mid table mediocrity. Glass half full for me

I never in my life would have imagined that not getting DEMPSEY would lead to mass suicide on this site. He must be up there with Falcao, Aguero and that shit striker Suarez.

You know full well there's more to it than that, Modo.

Creating wasn't the problem last season, finishing was. And we managed to seriously weaken that part of the team. It's madness.

The most important part of Rodgers Swansea was how the three (sinclair, sigurdson, dyer) operated AROUND the ONE forward.
Cole, Downing, Assaidi, Gerrard, Sahin, Sterling are the key to his way of playing.

Yes we should have bought a striker. But I don't see why we can't make it to January with Borini and Suarez. We shouldn't be held to ransom by the likes of Fulham.

Exactly!!!!

If you'll recall, we also let Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi go and replaced them with people no one had ever heard of.
Along with Carrol, it was their tragic lack of goals that was the problem last season. Are we honestly going to miss both of Kuyt's goals? I'd sooner give Assaidi a chance, as he has pace and a clear eye for goal.

I'd wager the four or five players we have bought will score more goals than the twelve who left did last season in the league.

The only one who arguably was prolific among those players was Maxi and he's a winger.

If we were on the verge of signing a top class striker like Villa but somehow fucked that deal up I'd understand the commotion but we're talking about Dempsey here.
So instead of starting Dempsey in the Europa league and the league cup we'll have Morgan or Yesil.
Oh, and sub appearances in the league. It's basically status quo with him imo cause I dont' care about the league cup and the EL.

It's the fact Dempsey was the only egg in the basket that's annoying.

How on earth are you failing to grasp the idea that we needed better strikers BEFORE we shipped all those players?

Well that's a good bet isn't it, coz they'll have to if we want to finish higher than 8th.

But I reckon you're right, get rid of a load of proven internationals and replace them with some kids we've never heard of. It's for the good of the club! Long live the club!

And Kuyt hardly had a look in last season. Look at his stats the year before - you know, on the list of the most clinical strikers on Earth.

BR's comments yesterday suggest there was another 'egg in the basket'. Probably Sturridge, who wanted a permo deal rather than a loan.

Yes I think top class striker would strengthen our squad. But how were we supposed to get these "better" strikers when we barely had any cash?

Why let Carroll go though in that case. At least he's an option

The second half of that first para.is highly slanted and owes not a little to the fact that you championed Roy all along. He spent a good deal less time in charge, so (thankfully) never had the chance to do the long-term damage he almost certainly would have done if he'd been allowed to continue. He made a pretty good start on that as it was, leaving us barely above the relegation places. Kenny at least put that right and got us to two Cup finals, winning one of them. His transfers have unquestionably worked out poorly, but even on your own terms - the accuracy of which, to say the very least, remains to be seen - another two transfer windows will take us no further than this time next year.

Championing Roy has nothing to do with it. Roy was also a complete disaster, but he didn't waste huge money because he didn't have any (I don't hold him responsible for Cole). He may well have done if given the opportunity, but that point isn't relevant, and the fact is Poulsen and Konchesky were easy enough to move on. Dalglish was nowhere near as bad on a footballing level, but the money he and Comolli sanctioned on Downing, Carroll, Henderson has really set the club back a long way and has left Rodgers in a difficult position. It's going to take him a while before he can get a squad which he, and I, feel is making a serious impression on the Premier League, and until then he's going to get a lot of patience from me.

No we didn't. We replaced them with people you've never heard of. That doesn't make them shit. I'd be willing to bet that their replacements will create and score more goals than that trio did last season. Let's face it, the targets are pretty modest.

Dirk Kuyt: 5 goals
Maxi Rodriguez: 6 goals
Craig Bellamy: 9 goals

That's in all competitions.

Regarding this Yesil kid, remember who helped Man U win the league that season we finished 2nd?
Have faith.
Im not saying he'll win us the league but if Macheda could contribute why can't Yesil?

Roy's performance is entirely relevant. You yourself made it so when you drew the comparison between him and Kenny in your own post.

I actually agree it'll take us a while to challenge for the title again. That's rather different from the stuff about "serious long-term damage" which you were coming out with before.

If Borini scores 6 league goals he'll contribute as much as Kuyt and Carroll combined

Why not get in Rush then, check his stats out in in the 83/84 season. That list counts for so much that they're put Abdellaouse above Messi. Meaningless and old.
