Might as well start this now.

Poor midfield, front 2 didn't click. Coutinho rusty, slow to the second ball and general sloppiness in our passing (over/under hitting by Lucas).

It seems strange that we've potentially got players in the squad (Allen, Alberto) that can keep hold of the ball and play a quick tempo passing game - and yet Lucas/Henderson/a wilting Gerrard are picked unflinchingly.

This is the thing that passes me off.

They were miles better than us.
Could have been a different story had we taken a few of the chances we had though.
Coutinho, much as I love him, was complete muck.
Forwards were off their game.

Always been a critic of Skrtel but thought he was by far our best defender today, and surprisingly a calming influence when others were panicking around him.

I don't think this game taught us anything new.

Just highlighted the blindingly obvious - we're a team without a structure or philosophy in midfield. We rely on individual brilliance to win us games, and that doesn't work out everyday.

Suarez and Sturridge are that good that we will continue to beat poor to average teams.

We will however continue to get outplayed and beaten by teams who're genuinely better than us - and I include Arsenal, Spurs, City and Chelsea in that. We could stand a chance against these teams if we had a Liverpool character running through the spine of the side - I'm talking Sami, Carra, Xabi and Didi here. People who stand up and get counted every game. Sadly, there's not a single player in the spine of that quality anymore.

Well deserved victory for Arsenal. Two class goals.

Our ball retention was poor today and the forwards couldn't finish when the chances came.

We need to put this result behind us with a home win next time out.

Coutinho was a risk. His match fitness was no way going to be at the level for this game. Coming off the bench was the best he could do.

Gerrard needs a kick in the fucking arse.

And I can see the value of having a Lucas if he can do it against the top teams but our Lucas can't. He's boss at nullifying the threat posed by the Steve sidwells of this league but can't handle it against top midfields.

SAS rubbish together. We rely on them so much an off game from Them costs us.

We looked like mugs but its alright we'll bounce back against Fulham.
Agger just got a free pass.

Keep some perspective. Why get upset over the fact that their midfield exposed ours when we already knew they were better before the season began?

As it is, we've done well to be in third place with this dysfunctional midfield and could have been second had Atkinson not disallowed a perfectly good goal.

Drop Gerrard play Allen next game I'd say. Henderson can play on the right, Coutinho in the middle.

By the way, a defining moment was the referee pulling us back from taking a quick free kick. I don't know if it would have changed the result but it seemed a perfectly good goal.

We were poor today but I've seen us a lot worse. I think the deciding factor today was that Arsenal were fucking top class and they were too good for us. Even on one of our better days they would have beaten us.

No they weren't. They were more incisive - something we started to look in the last 30mins. We had 12 shots apiece and possession 54-46% in their favour. Even the commentators were saying quality match between two quality teams.

I understand people are very disappointed at losing so the natural reaction (we'll see a lot on here over the next week) will be we were crap. We weren't, however when you play a team of Arsenal's standard it's the little things that count, the ball coming back off the post straight to Cazorla, the 'goal' by Henderson that should have been allowed, Suarez missing one sitter (by his standards) and shaving the post, Sturridge heading an open goal over. Had those two been on their game we might even have drawn 2-2 or better !!

Countinho was a breath of fresh air, when you play the high risk passes he does you know most won't come off, it's the couple that do that count. He gave us a lot more creativity in that second 45.

You saw the same match as I did. Some of the other posters on here need a visit to Specsavers.
