What sort of football player were/are you?

I alternated between left back and left wing. Like a cross between Stuart Pierce and Steve McMoneyman. I peaked in junior school though, and other sports became more important after that (from a playing perspective).

Somebody should do a follow up thread for a 6CM best team. I'm far too lazy to start that.

I was the quintessential fox in the box. Played Sunday league from age of 17 to 35 and scored over 300 goals. Never ever scored a competitive goal with my head and only missed one penalty.

My mates said that if I got past the last defender and was one on one, they knew I'd score. I started off on the left side of midfield at ?Sunday league, mainly because no had a left foot and I did. As I got older I made the number 9 position mine, although I insisted on wearing the 10 shirt.

Play a bit of five a side nowadays but that's it. Although I may consider vets football if I can find a team.

I've been reading your posts for about 10 years and you never once mentioned healing an animal.

Centre back. 6"3, therefor quite good in the air and a very strong tackler. Very good passer of the ball but cant finish for toffee. Last time I scored a goal John Barnes was still playing. What little pace I once had is gone and I turn around like an oil tanker these days.

Played at a decent level over here but now its 7a side footy. Dont have time for anything else with kids and work.

I used to be Neil Mellor... not really that good at anything but I could finish. Then I got moved to centre back, was alright once I got comfortable playing there, now I'm like Kolo Toure... run around the pitch much more slowly than I used to, dragging my fat ass behind me and I'm most definitely past it.

Your missus is lovely though Neil.

I was allrounder, which is never good. However I was striker in the junior League for a couple of season scoring bunches of goals. Going senior I took a midfield role, doing ok, covering my milage and still able to cope With us having the rare occasion of possesion.

Once I met my old team (their reserves), I got haggled in a midfield Battle With an old team mate whom I never liked anyway. Captaining my team I took some Challenges, and so did he. In a Counter I chased him Down and jumped in tackle were I heard a bone break. When I landed I realized it was mine.... In a lower League game the ambulance had to come from a hospital, and I lying there waiting while 100 People wanting to confirm it was a boken leg, it took ages.

After the ambulance arrived, 15 mins after the tackle, and the medics wrapped me up and lifted me in, The ref suddenly gave me a yellow for the tackle. As I was already on a booking I was actually sent off while I was carried into the ambulance. Not neccasary to say I could not play Next game.... Fuck that ref!!!

I was deceptively slow, had the control of an arthritic elephant, a left foot useful for standing on but nothing football related, the passing range of a packet of cheese n' onion tayto and the tackling ability of a banana.

Basically I was less useful than a traffic cone on a football pitch.

I should add that my career ended in Primary 7.

Having been played out of position in defence in a trail game for Olderfleet Primary School, I scored an own goal after flinging my useless left foot at a low cross.

I didn't make the squad.

At a second trail match, I impressed playing in a more forward position and won a recall to the squad.

Alas, they never played again and my chance to make it in football was over.

Olderfleet, were the worst school team in the district, and they played in blue, making them look a bit like Everton - so that made it feel better.

I retired to the playground to play out my years.

Centre forward back in the day (before the word 'striker' was used) playing at schoolboy, youth and amateur levels. I was also a bit of an all rounder playing Cricket and Rugby as well as Boxing. I could never settle and concentrate on one and have regretted it ever since.

So now you're a bit slow in the head, have lost both your front teeth and have cauliflower ears. No wonder you regret it. Should have picked one !

A slow CM. Lovely passer short and long. Couldn't head the ball but took a great penalty. Think Jan Molby and that was me.

Played right back in the village u10 team. After that I never made another team (school or otherwise). I think, maybe, I wasn't that good.
My 15 yo son is a useful left back/left mid. No idea where he gets it from as my wife is not into sport either ... must be the milkman

I never ran around very much either...choosing instead to dominate the centre circle, gravitating towards the centre spot as the game wore on.

Played mostly as a striker. I'm a pretty good finisher and scored the very very odd worldie, but was poor in the air and probably not strong or tough enough. I'd be pretty lazy too. Could beat a man, but usually only the one. Played a bit in midfield and on the wing too. Have a nice touch and good passing range, but sometimes take too long on the ball and get caught out.
