Virgiling on the vandijkulous

A few days ago I had it in my head that we might pull off our perfect transfer window. Nailing all the top targets early on for large fees.

Then the wheels began to fall off, this is almost impressively bad.

Who cares? Great player, but a huge risk on someone who hasn't kicked a ball in the league on lord knows how long. Doesn't take £60mill to significantly improve on what we have already.

It is a hideous volte-face. There will be a lot of people extracting a lot of pleasure from this catastrophic balls up.

I think it smacks of a complete admission of guilt, and I fully expect the FA to throw the book at us now. We can't even extract ourselves from a compromising situation intelligently.

If it were any other club we were dealing with it wouldn't be as ridiculous... But a club we're signing our 6th? player from in recent years.

Any excuse for Henry to not spend big. City and Chelsea wouldn't have given a shit and carries on. Pussies.

I doubt we will get a transfer ban but by the same token the idiot who leaked the story needs fucking shooting... mind you of course it could well be Van Dijks agent with a big mouth.

In effect Southampton complaining will probably result in them losing money due to a decrease in buyer available for their player.

Embarrassing for us and dumb for them.

Sky reported that the investigation was dropped after we made that statement.

Van Dijk dispute: Premier League will not be taking any action against Liverpool. Liverpool apology to Southampton is the end of the matter

This is genuinely embarrassing. They must have proof our officials met with him. No other club would be this stupid. It would be nice to have some one who had a vague clue how football operates. This is extremely amateur.

Yep. Van Dijk himself will be spitting tacks over what they've done, and absolutely dead set on leaving now. Other clubs will know that, which will put Southampton on the back foot in any transfer negotiations. An own goal of classic proportions.

I've been wishing for that since they took over.

Our transfer negotiation skills are as shambolic as our defence.

Whether the players themselves want to come to us is another issue but our reported targets slipped/are slipping through our hands.

This 'saga' is similar to the Zielinski one last summer too.

Napoli might finally be able to sign Piotr Zielinski after agreeing to increase his wages, as Udinese rejected Liverpool’s offer.

Udinese made it very clear some time ago that they had a deal in place with Napoli, so were frustrated when Zielinski would not agree personal terms.

The Poland international was pushing for Liverpool instead, but Udinese were irritated that Jurgen Klopp had gone directly to the player for talks rather than going through the club.

According to La Repubblica, the situation is finally ready to move on with Zielinski accepting the increased wage proposal from Napoli.

The deal is worth €15m plus Juan Camilo Zuniga, who would then be sent on loan to Watford as Udinese’s satellite club.

Udinese are eager to strike up a transfer synergy with Napoli and Zielinski’s move would help cement that rapport.
