Unacceptable

That's the first word that springs to mind after that performance.

You can accept a defeat and Southampton were bang up for it, fair play to them but failing to pick up your man, pulling out of tackles, and showing a bit of fight and resilence is a fucking disgrace. Why the fuck were we letting Southampton run us ragged? Why? It shouldn't be happening.

Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Allen, Gerrard and Sturridge were absolutely shocking and you cant afford to have 6 players off the pace away from home against a team fighting for survival.

I just dont understand how we weren't prepared for it. Not good enough.

I agree with all that, Gary.

There's no in-between with Johnson. He's either magnificent or completely shit. He did make a few important tackles, but overall he was awful. Agger and Skrtel were back to the usual shite they've been at all season. It was a great chance for Skrtel to cement his place in the team, but he just didn't do it. Allen displayed his usual shite and Gerrard and Sturridge, the guys I expect to push us on, were awful too. "Unacceptable" doesn't even begin to describe it.

I continue to be surprised at people being surprised that Johnson was shit. The guy just cannot defend and as a defender that's a big problem.

Yes he can look great going forward and he's had some storming games for us this season but when he's asked to sit tight, to mark his man, to put in a tackle, to just be a solid defender he's found wanting time and time again.

If we're looking to be successful team, we need better.

Johnson wasn't at fault for any of their goals was he? He was poor and looked tired but by no means our worst today.

sturridge should have been dropped and midfield should have been gerrard lucas henderson. as people have said, the team selection was just bizarre.

Skrtel looks like he doesnt care anymore. He'll be righfully sold.
Carra and Reina were missed.

That really got on my nerves today. His attitude was very poor. Ever since the game in Russia he's looked resigned.

Agger was equally shit. Lost every ball in the air and let the Southampton forwards bully him all afternoon.

No he wasn't. Not even close.

Skrtel and Allen was in a league of their own. The rest were just poor to average.

Again the stereotype. Johnson was good defensively today. His problems were with passing and concentration in attack.

Take off those red-tinted glasses mate. Agger looked suspect all game - in the air, on the ground, not closing down and generally not being strong enough.

He's had his fair share of poor games this season and that's putting it nicely.

He was watching Rodrigues laying the ball down for their first goal.
On Sunday he never jumped with Vertonghen for his first.
It's not a once off - I could dig for many more...

As I said before - he looked very tired today and in need of a rest.

To be fair, a rest is probably a good idea. He runs his bollocks off for us and it's no surprise that he's been poor for the last couple of games.

Speechless.

He saved us on more than one occasion in the 2nd half. Enrique was our best defender in the 1st half and Johnson in the 2nd half IMO. Maybe I missed something in the 1st half as my stream was shite. But in 2nd half Johnson made good contributions in defense and kept his concentration under pressure. But still kept giving the ball away when we needed to attack. He made a nice dart into the box in the added time though, but it was too little too late.

Was Johnson really that bad ? I find it hard to believe - perhaps he just gets noticed a bit more when he does something bad because ... you know ... why don't you all ? - but there are suppose to be 4 people at the back and its not just Glen is it ?

This is probably a fair point. He did make 1 or 2 crucial tackles, I'll admit, but other than that, nothing went right for him.

If we accept that Rodgers has been found wanting in redressing the defensive frailties of the team's tactical setup, why are we so sure that replacements for either CBs will solve all of our problems?

In saying that, if Skrtel doesn't respect the shirt enough to play his heart out, he should be binned immediately. We'd achieve more giving Wisdom a taste of life as a top flight CB.

Agger is still doing well.

Skrtel can fuck right off.

Someone needs to tell Carra to stay on.

If Rodgers thinks we can't get 4th he should see if Wisdom/Coates/Kelly will amount to anything at CB.

If I had to choose between being happy or being unhappy with Rodgers' signings with none of that sitting on the fence nonsense, then I will go for happy.

So, I'm not certain Rodgers has it in him to set up a defense properly, I have some faith that Rodgers will be get in some defenders who will do it for him on the pitch.

I'd like Rodgers to tell Coates that he's first choice in central defence for the remainder of the season.

Any of us here who plays footie can surely understand how difficult it is, impossible even to find top form when given a few minutes here and the odd game there. He's not getting match practice for the reserves because that's for kids these days yet we somehow expect him to slot in seamlessly and not make any mistakes. He hasn't had a proper chance to show what he's really capable of yet.

He seems a decent young lad, is six foot six and is already on our books at a time when we're getting bullied by yard dog centre forwards.

Oh, and he's Luis' mate.

Yeah, I'd like to see Coates get another go. We've got nothing to play for but pride now, and tbh, most of that went out the window against villa
