The hype machine

Can't really wonder at it though. If things keep on the way they're going, Southampton will have literally half a team to replace.

Totti

I'm going to Rome in a month, hope none of them read SCM.
Thats fucking astonishing.

2nd highest goalscorer in serie A of all time 290 goals and still active
Goals from 1994 onwards per year.

Italian player of the year 00, 01, 03, 04, 07
Serie A top goalscorer 06, 09

And more importantly a fucking amazing footballer. Probably my favourite ever.

I could not disagree more.

Totti is a fucking legend.

I fucking proper love that man!! I cant have that at all.
More goals than Baggio, Del Piero, Inzaghi, Vieri etc.
All time record appearance holder, world cup winner, and read up on him, hes a fucking dude too.

Rurik has actually lost a lot of credibility with me on that one.

Ribery and Cavani shouldnt be in this thread imho.

Watched each about 10 or 12 times properly, and they've never been anything more than meh. Not saying they're not great, but that's a bit of a coincidence that they save their shit games for when I'm watching. Whenever I've seen Cavani he's looked cumbersome and technically average. My Paris supporting mate isn't too impressed with him either, but that might be to do with him being shunted out to the right.

Name a player you don't get the hype around. Someone who seems universally acknowledged as a good/great player, but you just think "really?"

For me Jack Wilshire. He's tidy, not the best passer, not the best finisher, not the best vision, but he's seen as the next midfield stalwart for England.

Either I'm missing something or there's a dearth of talent in English midfield

And to stop this thread turning in to a flame war, NO LIVERPOOL PLAYERS
This. Me and Fabs keeping it real. Wilshire is so overrated. Rooney is a good shout too. Maybe because he was so good as a 16yr old and has declined massively. A worldly overhead goal. A CL debut hatrick and a half way line goal aside he's been 80% meh.

Im looking for one not on the list.

I can't read posts so I mentioned a Liverpool player.

(Puts tin hat on)

I don't see these often enough to make a proper judgement but any time I do they don't impress me that much:

Pepe
Hulk

Beckham could be mentioned too, he wasn't crap, in fact I think he was a good footballer but the level of hype and mania surrounding him was ridiculous

Don't let facts get in the way. Didn't realise he scored 32 goals in a season, that's something else. Always liked the fact he's a one club man, reminds me of Gerrard in the way he's symbol for Roma

Totti is great, but probably my favourite thing about him is how arrogant and supercilious he is. I love that.
