Suarez - nice to have the best player in the league back. He is going to get better and better too with more games, and with his chemistry with Studge (& Coutinho), we will start scoring goals.

Sakho - ridculed by some posters after his first game, but you saw him play a very good game against Altidore, who isn't the best striker but very hard to beat in the air (which Sakho did almost every game it seemed). He's getting better and better with each game.

Mingolet - terrible mistake, but another win.

Toure - What were all those nicknames everyone was throwing aroudn? Rolo? Fatso? Fantastic leader who has a point to prove, and has made the transition post-Carra far easier on the back.

Skittles - another very good performance. Again, put his head down, barely opened his mouth to the media and has won back Rodgers' confidence.

Moses - He really was excellent in the second half.

I thoguht we played much better in the 2nd half vs the 1st half. We were down 2-1 and yet we were creating chances - Maybe this is a game that pushes us slightly over the edge in that department, but our central midfield is very poor. ... It's our weakest spot on the pitch.

A great game - Sunderland played well but what can you say.... We have the best player in league. Welcome back to the PL Suarez!

Mignolet didn't made a mistake with that one. Ball came through Skittles legs, and he made a reaction save. I thought he did well with it

Kolo was amazing. Skittles was immense, Suarez, well now, welcome back. Sturridge was great. Moses was a wandering revelation. We're looking good, everywhere bar middle of the park, But we'll fix that!

Henderson disappeared again today. Has been poor in the last few games. Lucas is on the up. Sturrige and Suarez begining to understand their role and a partnership is blossoming. More of the same please. Defence is solid and Toure is a beast not to mention a leader of note. Gerrard is a bit off colour and looks like he needs a rest. We are missing Coutinho. Mignolet needs to get his ass in gear. He is making elementary mistakes and needs to hold onto the ball.

He's a leader. I heart KOLO. Just watched that third goal again, it was Keeper-Suarez-Sturridge-Suarez - four moves.

I thought Moses was poor for the entire time he was on the midfield apart from one decent shot. I really don't want to see him play through middle again.

Great result. I can't wait to see how we'll play with Coutinho and Johnson back.

what's all this moses talk , i thought he was crap for the most part .

bar the passages of play for both suarez goals i thought we were shite with the ball . but it's a 3-1 away win and we're second after 6 games. hopefully we can continue to get the results and improve the quality/style also as we go .

This, I'm not really impressed at all up to now.

Toure's having an excellent season so far, and I'm getting more and more impressed with Sakho. I thought Hendo and Enrique were generally quite poor, their offerings in the final third were woeful.

I'm actually encouraged we're starting to "win ugly". Those are exactly the games which used to get away from us so often.

Don't give a shit how we won, the main thing is we did and I'm ecstatic!

Mignolet's save to win the game vs Stoke, beating the Mancs and the manner in which we won today...so many 'Get the fuck in there' moments this season already!

I thought Enrique was really good today tbh. Henderson had a stinker though.

The Sky commentary team were desperate for Sunderland to equalise.

While Coutinho is absent, somebody needs to step up to the plate to supply Sturridge and Suarez. On today's showing, that isn't going to be Gerrard.

Henderson worked hard as usual and did his job defensively but we were again reminded why he shouldn't play on the RW.

Henderson really does not belong on the right wing.

He does a lot of hard work to get the ball in an inviting position then goes "what the f do I do with this?".
Think him centre / moses wide would have been better.

Enrique and Suarez have an amazing connection
It's like they both speak spanish or something

  • Good win, and good to see us comfortable defending. For all the shots Sunderland had, very few were real opportunities
  • Can't give Mignolet too much criticism on the rebound as he saw that quite late, and he probably saved us another goal(and Arguably two points) with his kick save earlier. Definitely saw a lot less of him on the ball this time, but starting that last counter attack was a bit positive
  • Enrique was good enough and did some good things with the bad, same can be said for Moses
  • If we want to play a 3-5-2 like some of the Italian clubs, we need more mobile midfielders, players like Lucas aren't really adequate. Hendo could be a really good fit to play one of the central roles, but Gerrard would be better suited to sit a bit deeper if that's how we decide to go
  • Toure had a very good game as has become the norm
  • Skrtel for me was middling, I wasn't particularly impressed by his play, especially when compared with Sakho. I think Kolo should be shifted back to the center now, with Skrtel on the bench, and someone new at RB if we got back to a 4ATB system
  • Gerrard and Lucas both very meh, they picked out a fair few important passes, but got absolutely overrun. Can't play both of them together in a 3-5-2 and expect otherwise though
  • Henderson saw a lot of the ball, and did enough with it for me, especially out of position. Couple dangerous balls in, but he's really quite successful when he attacks defenders head on, he has the power and pace to make things happen. Think Arsenal, Notts County, and even at a point today when he beat two defenders on his lonesome, I'd like to see him making that sort of an impact from the center of the pitch.
  • Sterling could be a very good wingback if we want to play in that style, has the legs to get up and down, alongwith enough balance and agility to play in tight areas
  • Sturridge MOTM for me, but Suarez a close second, as his pass to Sturridge really catalyzed the attack for the final goal. If nothing else we can score goals, which is good enough for quite a few matches
  • We only used one sub, but I suppose Rodgers didn't want to change a side that was defending OK. It looked like we had the upper hand after the 70th minute or so.

Agreed. Good job they're making a fair crack at just setting each other up instead!

I do wish Lucas would stop picking up pointless yellow cards with his stupid innocuous fouls. He's missing the next match and the season has hardly started!

It was obvious today that Hendo shouldnt play out wide at all, that position shows all of his weaknesses and ignores all of his strenghts it's just stupid to play him there, Sterling or even Ibe would do a better job there.

I thought Mignolet was great except for two mistakes which weren't so worriyng, he'll be a good keeper for us for many years.

Toure was world class today, really top-notch, also Sakho was very calm and put in a great performance.

I think our main problem is our pressing, for some strange reason the players aren't pressing and sometimes look disinterested even which is very very strange considering this is the opposite of Brendan's system, we need to sort that out quickly....with proper pressing and a setteld XI and system we'll be a very strong side

The away support today was fantastic, loud and clear over the telly. The Luis Suarez song was deafening. Kudos to the guys who went down.

One was for unsporting behaviour (ManU), one for the off the ball argument and handbags with Shelvey, and one that was terribly harsh from the ref (Sun).
