Sunderland Post Match

I do wish Lucas would stop picking up pointless yellow cards with his stupid innocuous fouls. He's missing the next match and the season has hardly started!

I have no problem with a player in his position picking up the cards, it's the 'who's coming in to replace him' that's the bigger question. The flip side of Lucas missing the next match is seeing if the current team can adapt, whether through a change in player or tactics. And not adapting, but evolving even.

Just give the ball to the top trio (Moses-Suarez-Sturridge) and something good will happen.

Love Kolo.

Toure put in a real captain's performance, both in terms of leading by example and his voice. Gerrard, unfortunately, was disappointing again.

Delighted with the win - good 3 points.

However, we weren't very convincing against a truly awful team. I think this 352 is designed to get the worst out of our players.

Moses was pretty poor - but the centre is not the right place for him.

Henderson was pretty poor - but the right was not the right place for him.

Gerrard was pretty poor - but a deep role is not the right place for him.

Enrique was pretty poor - but being on a football pitch is not right for him.

I'm half joking with the last one.

The result masks the same old issues and against a better team we may have seen a different result - there's too much dithering with the ball in our own half putting ourselves under pressure in dangerous positions.

The attacking line is struggling to assert itself with Moses & Henderson out of position.

Our midfield just isn't controlling games and we let teams get back in to it far too easily.

On the plus side - great to gave Suarez back, Toure & Skrtel are playing well, Lucas has got himself banned, so we might see something different against Palace and 3 points away from home is always good.

Now lets recover some poise and twat the fuck out of Palace next weekend.

I thought Moses was poor for the entire time he was on the midfield apart from one decent shot. I really don't want to see him play through middle again.

You REALLY need to take those shades off when you sit down to watch a match.

Ming - 6
Enrique - 6
Sakho - 7.5
Skrtel - 7 (he lost 0.5 for letting the shot for the goal nutmeg him)
Toure - 8.5
Gerrard - 5
Lucas - 4
Henderson - 2 (every other minute I was like ... oh fuck off Henderson) !
Moses - 8
Suarez - 8.5
Sturridge - 8
Sterling - 5

The good:
Sturridge, Suarez, Toure, Skrtel, Sakho. I thought they were all great today, defence had a fair bit to do aswell, and the boys up top were clinical, and seem to click together.

The bad:
The usual suspects. Lucas really needs some competition for his place. Enrique is fucking bollocks, he offers nothing going forward, and he can only barely defend, will be pleased to see cissokho back to give him a kick up the arse. Moses, he looks technically very very good, but he looks utterly not arsed and lazy, moping around, and when he does run, he's as quick as custard.

A good result in a game we'd have probably buckled under and lost last season. We're improving and playing well, and that considering we've got some good players out injured, and some good players currently playing shit.

Extremely harsh on Henderson. Played a decent game but worked his socks off in a difficult position.
Created the most chances for us aswell.
He'll run until he drops and deserves a 6 imho.

I agree for the most except I have absolutely no idea how you came to the conclusion that Moses should get an 8 - that's at least 2 points more than he deserved.

This is what I said in the match thread - for the first half. He was better still in the second :

Well it may be that Moses is being played out of position but you are all being very harsh. He runs at defenders and panics them .. twice he has had FOUR defenders around him and got the ball away once, how much space does that create ? He also carried the ball forward well .. something others in the team need to emulate. IMHO one of our better players in that half.

As long we are in the mix, I'll take an ugly win. The good performances will come; remember the league is not won in October but it surely can be lost.
The main areas of concern remain central midfield and the slowness of transition from defence to attack. I think we allow ourselves to be hustled off the ball far too easily. Gerrard also seems to be doing things on the stretch but he does give us an outstanding range of passing.

I'm a happy bunny.

I thought Sakho was great today.

I suspect Rodger's preferred back four is Johnson, Toure, Sakho, Cissokho.

Remember when Johnson was our token black guy?

I almost wonder if it is a deliberate strategy post-negritogate to go black.

Johnson, Toure, Sakho, Cissokho
???, ???
Sterling, Moses, Ibe
Sturridge

Seems to be working, need to get someone in midfield.

I really hope we're scouting someone to replace Lucas.
Getting in a class midfielder would lift our teams quality tremendously.
I've lost count of how many times players just glide past him.

We would get more out of Gerrard aswell with some more quality next to him.
